Although Henri Rousseau completed more than 25 jungle paintings, he never traveled outside of France. He drew instead on images of the jungle as it was presented through popular literature, colonial expositions, and the Paris Zoo. Rousseau’s The Dream (1910) is on view in our 5th floor galleries.

I think it is essential as an artist + designer to continue with your own practice and style to keep yourself inspired. 

Today I’ve been sketchbook-ing and getting my teeth into a new project. I’m looking into abstract design and using textural marks and patterns to collage together various artworks. I’ve also been looking at florals, cacti and tropical palms to inspire my sketching and drawing. I’ve been combining these two themes together which have created some interesting results!
