rebekah wandered the french quarter just before curfew, heels tapping softly against the cobblestones. the streets were quieter now—ghosts of music, the scent of sugar, and tension hanging thick in the air.
she paused at an old shop window, catching her reflection beside a faded “triad will not win” scrawled in red. her lips curved into a wry smile. “no, they won’t,” she murmured, then kept walking—just a little longer. just to feel normal again.
❝ Why does it feel like they already have, though? ❞ Alexandrea whispered the question under her breath as she passed the same lipstick stained writing on the window glass window, sighing with a defeated exhaustion once her reddened swollen eyes fell onto the words as she walked by.
It has been three days since the press release about the murders was issued and the city-wide curfew was established, but the rattling shock of Scout's death was still as fresh as it was when she first received the news. And it was hard to be anywhere these days when Andrea felt like an open wound.
So, you'd find the brunette werewolf walking around in the French Quarter with her heeled combat boots heard against cobblestones close to curfew time as she tried to feel something other than anger, guilt or grief under the moonlight which would usually provided her with much comfort. When she saw Rebekah walking further ahead, the footsteps became more frequent with an urgency to catch up with the blonde. ❝ Are you open to having some company, Aunt Rebekah? ❞
Kiera blinked, taking a step back and putting her hands in the air. "Don't shoot. You're not the only one who likes running this path, that's all." She was dressed for a jog, and unlike the Kenner daughter she hadn't pulled her earbuds from her ears yet. "If I was going to stalk you, I'd like to think that you wouldn't have heard me so easily."
Given the pause in her exercise she took the time to stretch a little, still giving Alexandrea an evaluating glance. Gesturing to the pepper spray on her wrist, Kiera raised an eyebrow.
"Still planning on using that?"
❝ Right. I'm sorry, Kiera. ❞ Alexandrea's tone was sincere as her eyes widened in horror of who almost became the unsuspecting victim of the spray she wielded. Once she recognised the person that she was confronting wasn't an immediate threat, her body language relaxes back into neutrality from being on the defensive and the pepper spray cannister gets dropped from her grip to dangle from her wrist.
❝ Sure, we could argue that I wouldn't have so easily heard you if you were intentionally following me. ❞ The brunette werewolf teased the younger woman who she considered to be family with an amused grin and a lighthearted chuckle slipping from her lips as arms get crossed over her chest and an eyebrow is raised with the posed question. ❝ If you like running this path, I would assume that you typically run this route. So, why haven't we crossed paths before today? Also, you know that it isn't safe for you to be running alone in the woods with the constant threat of the Triad's presence still looming. ❞
Sebastian's hands slowly raised up in surrender as she swirled around and clutched her spray canister in her hand tightly. "I mean you no harm." He said slowly and lowered his hands back down. "You seemed so... distracted. I couldn't help myself. There is only so much I can do to entertain myself these days, what with Triad and the authorities breathing down everyone's necks and monitoring everything for the slightest disruption."
❝ Isn't that a lie someone who intends to cause me harm would tell to get me to let my guard down? ❞ Alexandrea raised an eyebrow in disbelief, but her once tight grip on the pepper spray cannister loosened ever so slightly could suggest otherwise. ❝ If I was distracted, I wouldn't have caught onto you trailing me. ❞
She stated very matter-of-factly as her green eyes gave his stature a once over glance to assess the threat he posed, her tone remained unamused throughout the deadpan after a scoff was exhaled and her body language was on the defensive and prepared for whatever could come next. ❝ So, your idea of entertainment is stalking women you don't know in the woods? Something tells me that you could help yourself if only you wanted to. ❞
Cassian didn’t bother hiding his approach once she spun on him—he wanted her to see him. Wanted her to register the insignia stitched into the corner of his jacket, the one that made most supernaturals bristle before he even opened his mouth.
“Frowned upon?” His tone was amused, sharp, like a man entertained by the idea she thought she had any say in the matter. His eyes flicked to the spray at her wrist, then back to her face, unbothered. “That’s cute. Like that little trinket would even slow me down.”
He stepped into the clearing with a calm, deliberate pace, no hurry, no hesitation—just the kind of confidence that came from knowing he was exactly where he was supposed to be. “Why am I following you?” Cassian’s smile didn’t reach his eyes. “Because it’s my job to know which mutts are running loose in these woods. And you, Alexandrea…” His gaze dragged over her like a file. “…you’ve been on our radar for a while.”
He tilted his head, studying her the way a scientist might a specimen. “You can snarl, you can posture, you can clutch that spray like it’s salvation. None of it matters. You’re not the hunter here.” His smirk sharpened into something colder, crueler. “You’re the assignment.”
❝ Obviously I didn't think the pepper spray would slow you down. ❞ Alexandrea released the pepper spray from her grasp and let it dangle down her wrist as her tone was even while she simultaeneously spoke calmly without faltering, which shouldn't be surprising considering her profession entails not cracking under pressure and given that she has always been a chameleon with the expertise to skillfully blend and adapt to whatever a situation requires.
❝ Its your job to know which werewolves are loose in the woods that is densely populated by the Crescent pack? ❞ The brunette werewolf posed the clarifying question in a rather unimpressed skeptical tone with an unamused eyebrow raised in disbelief at the Triad insignia, but she would never let on the fact that there was adrenaline coursing through her veins and the rapid thudding of her heartbeat in her ears was being drowned out.
Either way, Andrea wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of getting to witness her quaking in fear in response to his attempts at intimidation. Her exterior body language remained unperturbed and constantly on the defensive guard like it had been moments earlier before she identified him as a Triad hunter. ❝ If your assignment was to eliminate me, we wouldn't still be having a conversation right now. So, why don't you just tell me what it is exactly that you want from me? ❞

The forest was alive with sound—leaves rustling, distant birdcalls, the faint hum of something ancient beneath the soil. Henrik moved carefully between the trees, fingers brushing over moss-covered bark, eyes scanning the undergrowth for the herbs he needed.
Each plant he gathered was a small victory, a reminder that even in this strange timeline, he could survive. The sunlight filtering through the canopy caught on his hair, and for a moment, he allowed himself to simply breathe, to feel the pulse of the world around him.
A snap of a twig in the distance made him freeze, heart hitching. He adjusted the strap of his satchel, weighing the ingredients inside, and muttered under his breath, “Almost enough… just a little more.”
Even here, among the quiet of the trees, the past and the shadows of his family lingered at the edges of his mind, whispering that nothing—no matter how peaceful—lasted forever.
❝ You're a new face around these parts. ❞ Alexandrea finally spoke up defeatedly when a broken twig that snapped beneath her combat boots gave her presence away made her wince. Zero points for being covert, Andrea. Remind me again how you thought you could be a secret spy agent growing up?
The brunette werewolf exhaled a sigh from where she stood a few feet away from where the unfamiliar person was in the midst of the Bayou forest she called home, arms defensively crossed over her chest on guard since being caught red-handed tailing the unrecognisable man she couldn't place how she knew him from. ❝ You know, its pretty unusual that a witch comes to our neck of the woods. So, since you've collected "almost enough" herbs from us, mind telling me what spell it is that you're gathering just "a little more" herbs for? ❞

"You see, beer is the best drink," Georgie said matter-of-factly, tilting her head slightly as she took another sip.There was a certain conviction in her voice, the kind that didn’t leave room for debate—just personal truth, wrapped in sarcasm and a bit of bite.
"I’m pretty sure it runs in the Kenner bloodline," she added with a smirk. "Beer and hard spirits only. Anything else feels like betrayal."She paused, her nose wrinkling slightly in distaste.
"That wine crap?" she scoffed. "Tastes like battery acid. And everyone who drinks it talks like they’re auditioning for some posh afternoon tea party."
❝ Good evening to you, too, Georgie. ❞ Alexandrea greeted her cousin with a rhetorical eyebrow raised and an amused chuckle as she was entertained by the werewolf's impressive ability to launch a debate within 0.5 seconds of encountering anyone.
❝ I'd argue that moonshine is the best alcoholic drink, though. Tequila's a close second and beer comes in third place. ❞ The brunette werewolf countered with an equal amount of conviction in her unwaveringly firm statement, shrugging and nodding as she continued listening to Georgie's rant with a smirk gracing her lips. ❝ Maybe we Kenners are just genetically predisposed to not appreciate wines. ❞

Running. Exercise has been said to release endorphins and seratonin, which counteracts the stress hormone called cortisol. Perhaps it was the comforting familiarity of the repetitive motion found in the slmost religious routine. Or, maybe it was just that the practice is an excuse of a coping mechanism to repress emotions by outrunning one's demons.
Alexandrea could be found engaging in this activity with one earbud to listen to her running playlist in the neck of the woods where she grew up, surrounded by the gorgeously vibrant greens of the forest at the cusp of dawn. She would have been happily content with minding her own business if only her enhanced werewolf abilities didn't entail heightened senses that could pick up on hearing the footsteps of someone trailing behind her for the past half a mile.
Thankfully, the brunette werewolf had the paths in the forest memorised like the back of her hand. So, Andrea switched routes before abruptly turning around on her heel to confront the person once they arrived at a clearing with three possible exits, supernatural pepper spray that was attached to her wrist guardedly clutched in hand. ❝ Didn't you learn it is generally considered frowned upon to sneak up on someone? Why are you following me? ❞
"It was. One morning he filled the entire table in the courtyard with about every kind of pastry in the world, and fed me my first beignet. Then told me the story of his." She smiled. "I ate so much pastry that day that I don't think I wanted another one for weeks."
Hope shook her head. "Sadly, being a witch wouldn't help much - I haven't been able to figure out a damn thing, magic or not. But you could always try and convince dad to make you a hybrid," she teased with a gentle smile. As the question was turned back to her she lifted her left hand and waved her right over it, lifting the cloaking spell that kept her engagement ring invisible.
❝ Yeah, that sounds very much like him. ❞ Alexandrea nods with a knowing chuckle that fell from her lips before a free hand motioned to the peace offering basket of freshly baked goods she'd settled onto the countertop behind them just moments earlier, her green eyes expressively conveying the curious question of, "well, aren't you going to try one?". ❝ Wait, does that mean he shared the history of how the first beignet came to be? Also, its kind of hard to believe that Mama let you indulge in so many sweet pastries at once. ❞
The brunette werewolf exhaled a sigh of content at the thought before providing a response to her suggestion with a firm shake of her head and a finality in her denial without any hesitation. ❝ Why would I have to convince Uncle Santa Klaus to turn me into a hybrid when all crescents already inherited the enhanced werewolf abilities to control when we turn with my parents' union? Plus, the bloodlust seems like it would be an unnecessary pain in the ass to deal with, especially considering what I do for a living. That being said, you have my full consent to sire me yourself if I ever need life saving extremes more urgently than the rate my healing abilities kick in—. ❞ Though, Andrea's train of thought is interrupted by an uncontainable gasp of surprise let out upon being greeted by the sight of the revealed engagement ring. ❝ Oh my gosh—! . . . Congratulations, Hope. Hold on, we are happy about this development, right? ❞

❝ Are they going to be okay? ❞ Alexandrea finally managed to pose the question to the vet examining the injured maltipoo that had been caught in her throat since she'd arrived with the poor abandoned animal at the clinic. One probably wouldn't be able to tell that her face was stained with silent tears that had just stopped flowing due to her standing there after being drenched in the heavy torrential rains pouring down outside when hurriedly carrying the dog wrapped in a cardigan into his clinic with the blasting AC which made her shiver in place.
The brunette werewolf had been driving home with low visibility in the rain from her shift on this gloomy day when the puppy had dashed out onto the street and she barely managed to react and hit her breaks in time to narrowly avoid crushing the poor thing in the middle of the road. The puppy seemed like it had just wanted to play when she got out of her vehicle in the middle of the road to check on it and there wasn't any visible scratches from what she could tell when she brought inside for further examination in her front seat. Still, she would rather have them checked out by a professional after that scare so she rushed them both down to the nearest veterinary clinic taking walk-ins, which thankfully had not closed for the day yet.

❝ I'll have a bourbon on the rocks, please. ❞ Alexandrea requested from the bartender and once the tumbler had been filled with amber liquid before her, she paid in cash and tipped the man 20% of the total cost of the drink. It'd been a long night of trying to party on the dance floor to move on from Scout since he has been gone without a trace a few months by now.
And she would have been nursing her drink that was now 3/4 full for the past fifteen minutes, trying to cool down from the mingling and just minding her own business when a man pulled up on the vacant barstool to her ride. The same man who she had overheard participating in shit talking her poison of choice ordered with his friends playing pool just eight feet behind from where she was perched. ❝ What about a woman enjoying her bourbon threatens your fragile ego? ❞
peyton's brows twitched as the girl greeted her with her name. as a bar manager that steps in a lot, and creates those relationships with the patreons, she was failing to recall the brunette as a regular or past guest. she did slightly look familiar, but the fact that they were obviously on first name basis had her mind racing to place where she could possibly know this girl from.
doing what she usually doesn't, she took the woman's momentary pause to reach into her mind, maybe there she'd find a clue or two. and she did. scout's friend, the one she had seen at the wedding party with him. years of working in customer service and the food industry trained her to expertly keep her features steady with a small smile, although the images she saw of the girl, alexandrea, and her brother had her pulling in a deep breathe through her nose to do her best to regulate and sedate the itch in her throat.
with a nod, she pushed off the bar counter, turning around to quickly grab the last request for her. "of course, here are your peanuts." peyton offered another smile before she moved away to pour the shot and tumbler of moonshine. it only took a moment and then she was back to standing before the brunette, placing two napkins down and then each glass. "there you go, hun. that's sure is something strong to get you started, long day?"
Alexandrea has worked with enough people on a daily basis both at the hospital and with the Crescents over the years that she'd developed enough knowledge on how to observe people's immediate body language responses. For example, it'd been easy to notice the way Peyton's brow twitched ever so subtly when she greeted the blonde, this could indicate that her presence was distressing for some reason. Or, maybe it was the brunette's bullshit radar that helped her pick up that the psychic witch's possible frustration with her might be growing based on how she pulled in a deep breath through her nose despite what the pleasant smile forced to grace her features might otherwise suggest.
Either way, the last thing the young werewolf would ever want to do is cause Scout's sister any more discomfort with her presence because its the last thing neither of them needed right now. ❝ Thanks, Peyton. ❞ Since he wasn't around to call her out on it, her lips were graced with a small smile that mirrored the blonde's which only he could've differentiated as skillfully forced to comfort the other person she's with rather than genuinely because she just wanted to smile.
The plan was simple — pay for the items she ordered and then make herself scarce by finding another vacant seat to get out of Peyton's hair. Except that when her green eyes scanned the bar, there were none, but it was the blonde's voice that pulled Andrea's attention back to be greeted by the drinks each placed on napkins in front of her and she responded to the question with a self-conscious nervous chuckle like a guilty deer caught in the headlights as she gave the bills to cover what she had ordered and a 25% tip of the total bill. ❝ Long week. ❞ Don't say that. You're minimising weeks of her worrying about her brother. Just shut up and stop forcing her to make small talk. ❝ I'm sorry, I just mean its been a crazy work week is all. These'll definitely help take the edge off. ❞

Hope gave an exaggerated peek into the basket as she pretended to consider the question. "In that case, I would say anyone who brings fresh beignets is always welcome to hang around for a while. You know I ate my first one right over there?" she pointed to a table once filled with every manner of treat in New Orleans. "Even came with a history lesson."
There was something coming from Alexandrea in soft waves, but Hope couldn't quite put her finger on it and decided it might be better left alone. "I'm restless, mainly. It's hard not feel like I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for Triad to do whatever dumbass thing they've got up their sleeve. Although I might have a little bit of news..."
❝ No, I didn't know that. Let me guess, though, it was Uncle Santa Klaus' doing? ❞ New piece of Hope lore unlocked. It wasn't Hope's fault that her life was constantly under threats or intentional doing that she was so guarded, but at times, it felt that the original tribrid did live up to the reputation the last name Mikaelson had inadverdently cultivated within the supernatural community as mysterious legends.
And Alexandrea would never blame or resent Hope for Hayley's absence when she was growing up and they were busy trying to protect her from the Triad, but she did resent the distance she felt from not knowing her older sister as much as she would've liked.
More than surprised by Hope's willingness to answer her question so candidly than she lead on in her body language, Andrea took a seat with her lower back leaning against a countertop as she nodded while listening before speaking with a self-conscious nervous chuckle before confessing. ❝ Yeah, I know the feeling well. Its times like these I wish I would've been born a werewitch, just so I could use cast a spell or something to see what the next possible moves the Triad could possibly make are. What's the news, though? ❞

"oh, yeah, thanks." a corner of her lips turned upwards slightly as a hand reached out from under the blanket to accept the cup of coffee. there was a wave of relief that washed over her as her hand adjusted it's grip around the cup. she knew it was more than a cup of coffee. it was a peace offering, her sister's silent way to let her know everything was ok, if she opened up or not. she found comfort in the hot beverage before it ever touched her tongue.
when silence fell between them, she was content with that. it was a comfortable silence, once she felt no pressure filling, so instead to looked out over the water and watched as the sun began to set on another day. the young kenner tried to ignore the thoughts of how if it wasn't for kaidan she'd not be here to see this and those thoughts led to the more confusing ones. like how? it was one thing for a guy to say 'i'll always protect you'. she was no stranger to hearing those words, getting a big promise only to be let down but kaidan had proved it wasn't just words to him and he really was able to find her. all of this was overwhelming and amazing all at the same time, and she was worried she was getting lost in it, or worse-- happy to get lost in it.
her sister's voice pulled her out of her spiral, dark eyes traveled from the sunset before them to the she wolf and she once more was feeling like a complete open book. a small attempt of a laugh fell silently from her lips, and eve looked back down to the coffee in her hands. "um, yeah we can talk about it. i mean, what is there to really talk about? i was kidnapped from the street after idiotically sneaking out to go on a date and then my date created a whole storm over the town and stormed triad himself to save me after psychically hearing my cries for him. my date who also happens to by my professor. i'm fine, they didn't torture me, just sedated me after they snatched me, and that's about it. i'm fine." she rushed, playing it off the best she knew how-- by completely ignoring just how ridiculous and weird all of it was. "i swear, i wasn't avoiding you or anyone else. i just... i needed some space.. i'm sorry, lex."
❝ You've insisted that you're fine so many times that the word has lost all its meaning. ❞ Alexandrea deadpans in disbelief as dark green eyes shifted focus from absentmindedly watching the sunset into the horizon to address the younger werewolf with a firmness in her gaze as she proded ever so gently with humor to lighten how unconvincing she found it. ❝ There's a lot more to talk about other than what just happened, Evelynn. I was asking about how you feel about any of it rather than needing you to recount the details of how it went down. ❞
The brunette surgeon isn't sure how the younger Kenner is still standing after all that had happened, but she isn't surprised at all surprised that Eve is. She has always been the stronger one of the two sisters. Evelynn is a survivor after all. Lord knows that Andrea wouldn't be seen still vertical if it were her who had endured it, considering how much shame and guilt she felt after the incidents that shall not be mentioned. Not that her younger and better half would know because she'd begged their parents not to let her little sister know what they'd found out at the time.
Don't pry into more than she's ready to share about her feelings on her trauma. Its not about what you need to feel better, Alexandrea. So, Andrea pivoted and angled her body to stand at a better view to observe and analyse Eve's body language as she tried to ease off the pressure to answer her earlier question by teasing with a sparkle of knowing amusement. ❝ Or, if you feel more comfortable, you could just tell me what's so wrong about this professor you had to sneak out to go on a date with him in the first place? ❞
