“The way sadness works is one of the strangest riddles of the world.”
—Lemony Snicket
“It’s okay if you can’t access your light. If you can’t find it in you to be hopeful or brave. You don’t have be positive when you’re hurting. You just have to stay curious. Curious about what tomorrow might bring. Curious about who it might bring to you. About what you might learn and which opportunities might arise and how things in the universe might align so that there’s a shift. Maybe things will continue to feel painful and heavy forever. But maybe they wont. Maybe you’ll never be able to climb out of the hole and move towards what’s important to you. But maybe you will. Maybe something different is coming. Something that will change everything. Something that will change you. It might not happen in the way you wanted or imagined. And it might not happen in the time frame you were hoping. But you’ll never know unless you keep showing up. Unless you keep trying. So stay curious. Even when you feel incapacitated by the hurt and the heaviness. Even when you feel convinced that nothing will change. You don’t know what tomorrow will bring. You don’t know what your life will look like in a month or a year or three years. The only way to find out is to stay. So please stay. Please keep being curious. Maybe the best days of your life haven’t happened yet. Maybe your most profound moments are coming.”
— Daniell Koepke
“I can only connect deeply or not at all.”
— Anaïs Nin, Fire
i’m turning out the lights to remember how to see until a renaissance takes place and resuscitates the color of paint and divinity
as if God hid the building blocks of every beautiful thing in this game of hide and seek i can’t help but think that ordinary has swallowed the key
bodies fashioned out of dirt and dust for a moment we get to be glorious ice sculptures adorned in light sand castles built tall in between the tides
maybe i’m hiding behind metaphor maybe my heart needs to break to be sure one day i’ll wear it all on my sleeve the insignificant with the sacred unique
but i’ve fallen in love with a ghost and i lost my balance when i needed it most this blurry photograph is proof of what i’m not sure but it feels like truth
i’m stuck swimming in shadows down here it’s been forever since i came up for air flashlight in hand determined to find authenticity only poetry could even begin to try to describe
bodies fashioned out of dirt and dust for a moment we get to be glorious
what if we already are who we’ve been dying to become in certain light i can plainly see a reflection of magnificence hidden in you maybe even in me
If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.
C.S. Lewis
“Staying quiet doesn’t mean I’ve nothing to say. It means I don’t think you’re ready to hear my thoughts.”
