To love a person is to see all of their magic, and to remind them of it when they have forgotten.

To My Estranged Mistress: The Russian Language In the spring of the last good year, I saw you wearing that little Pushkin number that exposed your skin, your iambic pulse; I couldn't look away. Alone with you, drunk, I traced the elegant lines of that fabric, first with a fingertip, then slow ecstatic trials of my tongue, peeling it all apart to taste what was beneath. A splendid summer followed. So many sultry dawns while my children lay dreaming, I slipped out of bed to be with you in the quiet dark. Short hot quarrels, as you unfolded your complexity, brought me to tears. Joining us was like mathematics, carpentry; I could not smooth our communion into the warm dark honey your contours promised. You were patient, tender as fruit dropping into my hands. Then November came, and its frost. My fault, for my blindered arrogance, as though I were the first ever to touch you! The shock was like a child's first abrupt meeting with pavement. The pain sent me reeling; I pushed you away as though I could smell every brute who ever used you. You let me go as docilely as you had let me in. Only looking back did I remember that when we were together your beauty had spread to me like fever. You had touched these thin old-woman lips and made them flush like a girl's. Forgive me, forgive me, my beauty, моя радость. Come back to me.

This book should be required reading for any citizen of the United States in 2017.

38 down, 962 to go!
Today I start my 2017 goals in earnest, now that I've turned in a draft of Book 3 and gotten my big birthday trip out of the way. I've even started studying Russian again, for the first time since October. Going to see if bullet journaling helps keep me organized and on track. Expect more regular posts here!
I think the best way to make sure I finish my project this year is to do four cranes a day instead of three. Halfway through today's, I decided to change the way I write the notes on the inside. I've also begun to string together the ones that I've already made. After I get back to the end of the rainbow, I will make two a day of each color and string them as soon as they're finished. When I'm finished with my overdue novel, I will start reporting on some of my other goals as well. But right now it's mostly just working on that, and folding cranes.

(pls click on first image for best view, ty)
I printed out a couple bookmarks, some of which I have sent out to Jay and the friend who got me into the series, so Ann Leckie, if ur reading this, I would like to send you a bookmark if you would like one. thank you.
I'm going to make four cranes a day for a while, since I'll be out of town for two weeks this month. 19 down, 981 to go. I think i'm past the worst of the obstacles to finishing my book now. Worked out all the plot problems and now I just have to write those last few chapters. My husband and daughters return from Indiana tomorrow. I'll miss the quiet and the freedom. But it will be nice to have at least one grownup in the house.
May this accursed year 16 end as soon as possible. In 17 everything will be better.

Another rough day, but I think I sorted out all the plot problems in the last quarter of my novel. It should be smoother going after this. 15 down, 985 to go.
