Meet Mexico’s unlikely hero: a 7 year old labrador named Frida.

Frida is part of the special Canine Search and Rescue Group that works with the Mexican Marine, and prior to yesterday’s earthquake she had saved 52 lives in Honduras, Ecuador, Haiti, and Oaxaca. She started her training when she was two years old, and she hasn’t stopped making our country proud ever since.

After the 7.1 earthquake that happened on September 19th, Frida was quick to get to work, and she has been able to rescue 12 lives so far, aside from locating the bodies of more than 20 people.

At least 217 people were killed after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake rattled Central Mexico on Sept. 19, 2017, toppling buildings and leaving an unknown number of victims trapped under rubble. The tremblor was the deadliest to strike the country in decades, the Associated Press reported, citing the head of Mexico’s National Civil Defense Agency. The epicenter was located in Raboso, 76 miles southwest of Mexico City, which suffered significant damage. First responders and volunteers in the city continued working Wednesday to dig through the rubble, find victims and deliver water. More than 140 die in huge Mexico quake

A strong earthquake has struck central Mexico, killing more than 140 people and toppling dozens of buildings in the capital, Mexico City. President Enrique Peña Nieto said more than 20 children died and 30 were missing after a school collapsed. The 7.1 magnitude quake also caused major damage in neighbouring states. The tremor struck while many people took part in an earthquake drill exactly 32 years after a quake killed thousands in Mexico City. The country is prone to earthquakes and earlier this month an 8.1 magnitude tremor in the south left at least 90 dead. The epicentre of the latest quake was near Atencingo in Puebla state, about 120km (75 miles) from Mexico City, with a depth of 51km, the US Geological Survey said. At least 149 people have died across the country, a civil protection agency spokesman said.

We have waken up to news of even more people who died, some of them last night, because a couple more buildings collapsed during the night. The number of people dead at my work has risen to 5. I won’t go to work in a couple of days it seems. We’re also trying to gather stuff we can donate at our local shelter. It is all so sad, but amid the devastation, there’s been some good news too. Yesterday were released two videos, one of two small children being rescued from the collapsed elementary school, and the video of a poor shocked dog being pulled alive from under the rubble. Rescuers didn’t sleep at all to keep working as hard as they can. I can’t be more proud of my people. Everyone is doing their best to help others, whoever they are, being humans or otherwise. 👍🇲🇽♥️

So far, almost two hundred people have died, but they managed to rescue more than 30 people alive, including several children from an elementary school that fell down.

It seems someone from my work died too, but they were located on another branch office on the other side of the city.

Rescuers will work all night, trying to save anyone left, and the government has already announced that public transportation, as well as hospitals and other public services will be free for the time being.

I still can’t wrap my head around the fact this earthquake happened exactly 32 years after the last deadly quake in this city, down to the very exact same day.

Now there are more than 110 people dead. Images of buildings collapsing on social networks are shocking. But this country is strong and people are already rallying to help, just like they do every time a disaster like happens, and they have managed to pull some persons alive from under the rubble. They have located some more people alive still trapped and they are hurrying to rescue them before night falls.

My heart hurts, so far more than 70 persons are dead in Mexico City and surrounding states, and people are desperately trying to rescue people from under the rubble.

Hi guys, just checking in to inform you I'm OK but the earthquake was a really big one and it seems it hit hard some areas of Mexico City. Some buildings fell and sadly, we are starting to hear of people who died.

I love how minimum wage jobs ($7.50 an hour) pay you the minimum but expect maximum happiness and efficiency and expect you to go the extra mile. Suck my dick. Companies act like we’re supposed to be grateful to work for them. If you’re paying the minimum expect the minimum from your employees. I had a job that paid me $13 an hour and you best believe I was a stellar employee in their eyes cause even though I was only part time, my work was valued by the company via compliments and pay. Pay extra, get extra. Pay minimum, expect the minimum. What’s so hard to understand? You get what you pay for.
