what is a composite chart?
ok so if you’ve never looked at a composite chart before, basically it’s the chart of the relationship itself. you take both people’s birth charts and combine them to create a completely new chart, so instead of asking “what does he feel about me?” or “why am i attracted to her?” like you would with synastry, the composite asks:
“what do we actually become when we are together?”
it can show the personality of the relationship, what the connection feels like behind closed doors, what you naturally bring out in each other and even how other people perceive you as a couple.
i personally think composite charts are SO interesting because sometimes the relationship itself has a completely different personality from either person individually . you can have two quiet people with a composite that is loud and dramatic, or two people who seem completely chill separately but somehow create the most intense relationship when they’re together.
also disclaimer: one placement never tells the whole story. i’d always look at the whole composite, especially the sun, moon, venus, mars, saturn, the angles and the strongest aspects. these are just patterns i’ve noticed from reading charts, so take what resonates 🤍
the relationship itself has a VERY obvious presence. people notice you two together even if you’re not trying to get attention. there’s something about the way you interact that makes people immediately register that there is a connection here. you may also feel more confident, expressive or like a stronger version of yourselves when you’re together. the relationship almost develops its own personality that people can pick up on.
i’ve noticed this can be the couple where everyone knows you’re together before you even announce it. you walk into a room together and somehow people just know.
this relationship becomes very tied to security, stability and what you actually value. you may start thinking about what you can build together, whether your lifestyles fit and whether the connection feels reliable in real life rather than just emotionally exciting.
i also notice this can make couples quite protective over what they have together. there can be a strong “this is ours” feeling, whether that’s your home, money, routines, possessions or simply the private life you’ve built together.
this is such a “why do i feel like i’ve known you forever?” composite. there’s usually something incredibly familiar about the relationship, like you can relax around each other in a way that doesn’t happen with everyone.
you may naturally create your own little world together and become much softer behind closed doors. you could be the couple who barely needs to do anything exciting because just being in the same room feels comforting.
the downside is that the relationship can also bring up childhood patterns and family wounds because it touches such a private part of both people. sometimes you realise you’re not just learning how to love each other, you’re learning what home actually feels like.
you two genuinely like having FUN together. this is the relationship that wants flirting, jokes, teasing, dates, creative projects, spontaneous plans and just enjoying each other’s company.
i’ve noticed couples with this placement can act much younger around each other. you bring out a playful side that other people don’t always get to see.
even if there are serious placements elsewhere, there’s usually this underlying feeling of “but i actually enjoy you.” and honestly that matters so much.
the relationship itself is VERY focused on being a partnership. you naturally start thinking in terms of “us” rather than just “me and you separately”.

nah because this is one of those composites where you can try to keep things casual and somehow the relationship refuses to stay casual 😭.

this relationship can change both people permanently. even if you don’t stay together forever, the connection can leave you feeling like “i am not the same person i was before i met you.”
trust becomes a huge theme. you have to learn how to let each other in without trying to control everything.
this is one of the composites where the relationship itself can have a very noticeable public identity. people may see you as a “couple” before they know anything about your private dynamic.
i’ve noticed this can give very strong power couple energy, especially if venus, jupiter or pluto are involved. you may look successful together, inspire each other professionally or become known for being together.
BUT the 10th house is also where reputation lives, so people can have opinions about you two that they probably shouldn’t 😭. sometimes everyone thinks they know what’s happening in your relationship because they only see the public version.
and if pluto is involved? yeah… people can become VERY invested in your relationship for no reason.
you can literally see the relationship’s emotions on each other’s faces. when you’re good, people can tell. when you’re annoyed with each other, people can probably tell that too.
the relationship itself is emotionally reactive, so your moods can affect each other very quickly.
i’ve noticed this can be the couple where you don’t even have to say anything. one person walks into the room in a bad mood and suddenly the entire atmosphere between you changes.
this is the “we have our own little world” placement.
you may become incredibly comfortable together and feel like you can completely drop your guard in private. you might have your own routines, inside jokes and little domestic habits that nobody else really understands.
this can also make the relationship feel very emotionally familiar, but because the 4th house connects to childhood and family, you can accidentally trigger each other’s old emotional patterns too.

this is DEEP emotional bonding. you can become extremely sensitive to each other’s moods and may know something is wrong before the other person even says anything.
the relationship can feel emotionally consuming at times because you don’t just experience your own emotions. you start feeling the emotional atmosphere between you.
when you’re connected, it can feel incredibly intimate. when something is wrong, though, it can feel like the entire relationship is suddenly heavy.
this is one of those placements where you can feel like you have a secret emotional language together.
you might sense each other’s moods, dream about each other or feel emotionally connected without actually talking about what’s happening.
but this can also be confusing because sometimes you think you know what the other person feels when you haven’t actually asked them.
so this is beautiful for intuition, but you still need actual communication. otherwise you can accidentally fall in love with assumptions.

you two probably TALK constantly.

if mercury is heavily afflicted though, the exact same thing can become overthinking every text message and analysing why someone used a full stop instead of an emoji 😭.

but i’ve also noticed this can make couples analyse each other a LOT. you may spend ages trying to figure out what the other person really meant instead of simply asking.
☿ mercury in the 12th house
this is such a strange one because sometimes you genuinely feel like you understand each other without speaking… and other times you realise you were both assuming completely different things 😭.
there can be subtle glances, weird coincidences and a feeling of being mentally connected in a way that’s difficult to explain.
but this relationship really needs honesty because unspoken assumptions can become a problem very quickly.
the relationship itself is naturally charming and affectionate. people usually enjoy watching you two together because there’s something sweet about the dynamic.
you may genuinely like looking at each other and being around each other. there’s often a strong physical appreciation of each other too.
i’ve noticed this can be the couple where people constantly say things like “you two are so cute together” even when you’re literally just standing next to each other.
this is one of my favourite placements for a relationship that genuinely enjoys itself.

this can be a very private kind of love. sometimes it feels like the relationship exists in its own little bubble that other people can’t fully understand.

but this can also create idealisation. you have to be careful not to fall in love with what you hope the relationship is while ignoring what is actually happening.
this relationship has ENERGY.
you motivate each other, annoy each other, challenge each other and probably create a lot of physical chemistry.
there can also be arguments because mars makes the relationship itself reactive. neither person can really be completely indifferent to the other.
even if you’re mad, you’re still very aware of each other.
the teasing is probably ridiculous.
this placement can create that relationship where you constantly wind each other up just because you love seeing the reaction.

you can genuinely argue one minute and then somehow end up flirting five minutes later.
this is one of the composites i’d immediately look at for serious sexual tension.
the attraction can feel magnetic, but the important part is that it usually isn’t just physical. physical intimacy can make the emotional bond feel even deeper.
there can be a feeling of being pulled into each other’s private world through intimacy.
there can be SO much unspoken tension here.
you may both feel things that you don’t immediately say, which can create a weird push-pull dynamic.
sometimes it’s anger. sometimes it’s attraction. sometimes it’s both at the same time.
the relationship really benefits from saying things early instead of letting resentment or desire quietly build underneath everything.

this can make the relationship take romance seriously.
sometimes there’s a fear of rejection or feeling awkward about openly expressing affection, especially early on.
you may have to learn how to relax and actually enjoy each other instead of constantly worrying about where the relationship is going.
but if you get through that, this can create something that becomes stronger with time.
♄ saturn in the 7th house
this can make the relationship feel serious before you’ve even officially defined it.
there’s often a sense of responsibility toward each other, like the relationship carries weight.
sometimes this is beautiful because both people are willing to work through difficulties.
other times it can feel like the relationship is something you have to carry rather than something you simply enjoy.

but once trust is genuinely established, this can be a very resilient bond.

this is where people can start seeing you as the “serious couple” or even the “power couple”.
there may be pressure around how the relationship looks publicly, and sometimes people assume you’re doing better than you actually are because the relationship presents itself so strongly.
this placement can also show a noticeable maturity difference in some relationships, especially if saturn is strongly connected to the angles.
♅ uranus in the 7th house
this relationship does NOT like being boxed in.
you may have an unconventional relationship structure, unusual circumstances around how you met or a dynamic that changes unexpectedly.
you can be extremely close and then suddenly one or both people needs space.
the relationship works best when both people are allowed to be individuals. trying to control each other usually makes the relationship rebel against itself.
♆ neptune in the 12th house
this can feel incredibly soulmate-ish because the connection is so subconscious.
you might dream about each other, sense each other’s moods or feel connected when you’re physically apart.
but Neptune can blur reality too, so you have to keep checking whether you’re responding to the actual relationship or the version of it you’ve created in your head.
♇ pluto in the 10th house
this is where the relationship can become VERY noticeable to other people. people may be fascinated by you as a couple, have opinions about you or feel like they can somehow see what’s happening behind the scenes. with Pluto here, the relationship may go through major transformations that completely change how other people perceive you. there can also be power struggles around reputation, career or who has more influence. and this is why i don’t think the composite 10th house is automatically “we want to look perfect.”
sometimes it’s more like:
“everyone has an opinion about us and somehow everyone thinks they know what’s going on.”
especially with Pluto involved.
you can have a couple who look perfect publicly but are going through absolute chaos privately.
you can have two people who look completely chaotic to everyone else but feel incredibly safe together behind closed doors.
you can have a couple who barely post each other but have an insanely deep emotional bond.
or two people who swear they’re “just friends” while their composite chart is screaming something completely different.
