So what would a pool of reality be like? Or maybe an example? I’m not sure I understand that part of it.
THE OPPOSITE OF A LIMINAL SPACE IS CALLED A PROXIMAL SPACE
HOMES WHERE YOU FEEL SAFE AND COMFORTABLE ARE PROXIMAL SPACES
AS ARE GRAVEYARDS
Then why do graveyards feel like liminal spaces
As a heads up, tomorrow is Spongecake Day! As has become Tumblr tradition, we’ll be queuing up recipes throughout the 4th and 5th to celebrate. Anyone who doesn’t want to see these on their dashboard for whatever reason is encouraged to block our #spongecake or #recipe tags.
Indoor Shrine/Altar Idea
This may have been suggested before but I was asked by a friend if I could think of a way to make a small, discreet indoor heathen shrine/altar. He seemed pleased with my suggestion so I thought I would share it here for anyone who may be in need:
Get a small plant in a pot (sacred grove), put a rock in the soil (replicating a horg), wooden lolly sticks as god poles pushed into the soil (draw your own image of whatever deities you wish on the lolly sticks with pen).
You now have an outdoor heathen shrine/altar for inside!

Hi! I have two questions related the same thing, the dandelion aka Loki's bloom. I've been trying to find some sources for them being called that, but apart from a couple of blogs stating it, I haven't really found anything? And second, it often says it was "colloquially" called that, but I'd love to know in what language that would've been, and what the non-English word(s) actually were? If you could help me out that would be great, and thanks for such a great blog!
Hi!
This is mentioned in Axel Olrik’s “Loke in Younger Tradition”, which was originally written in Danish but can be found in translation here.
On the west coast of Jutland, in Lem near Ringkøbing, the dandelion is called “Låkkilæjer”. “-læjer” and “-leger” is used in the compound of several blooming plants. The dandelion must have been connected with “Låkki” because of its vigorous growth in the early and warm part of the summer, maybe also because of its transient fruit-down and the poisonous sap.
These names illustrate how widespread the notions about “the sowing of Lokke” - or at least his airy activities in the warm days of the spring - have been. A name like “Låkkilæjer” probably does not make sense with the peasants any more – it has to originate from a time span, before –s was used for personal name as genitive – which means several centuries.
Olrik cites E.T. Kristensen’s Jyske Folkeminder IX for this bit of folklore.

Can we please just address that fact that whether you take the story of Ragnarok as fact/something that really happened or not, there is a lesson in the story. Stop just looking at the surface of the story, look at all the details. Look at the stories that lead up to Ragnarok.
Ragnarok was a story of revelution. The gods had betrayed those they viewed as lesser, and those who they betrayed revolted. Ragnarok wasn’t the end of the gods either, but rather the game over screen before hitting the restart button. It was a necessary action to throwing out the old ways, the old system, and allowing a new way a life to come. It was those who had been unfairly treated finally standing up for themselves it one grand take down of the old ways.
We need to look at this story and learn from it all, we need to stop ignoring the lessons within. And we definitely need to stop treating the stories of the gods as black and white, good and bad, it’s more complex than that.

Laufey or Nál is a figure from Norse mythology, the mother of Loki and consort of Farbauti. Eddic poetry refers to Loki by the matronym Loki Laufeyjarson. Nál means “needle”; according to Sörla þáttr, Laufey was also called this because she was “both slender and weak.” The meaning of Laufey is less clear but is generally taken to be “full of leaves”; as Fárbauti means “dangerous hitter,” there is a possible nature mythological interpretation with lightning hitting the leaves or needles of a tree to give rise to fire. Heathenry-Related Books to Avoid
In keeping with my grumpiness, I have compiled a list of books that I do not recommend, and why. This list only contains books that I don’t consider to have sufficient redeeming qualities or pieces of good information hidden among the dreck. They are books that are so bad that I refuse to spend any amount of money to have them in my personal collection.
If people want me to review a book that they’re wondering about that isn’t listed here, I’d be more than happy to oblige. Just send me a note and I’ll list out the pros and cons of the work if I’m familiar with it.
I’ll probably toss together a list of recommended books for beginners when I get a chance, as well.
Without further ado, the list:
