🌸 From Friends To Forever 🌸
One question Daniel gets asked all the time is, “How did you and Angela meet?”
He usually smiles, looks over at me and says, “It’s a long story.”
Our story didn’t begin with our first date.
It began years before either of us had the courage to admit how we felt.
I grew up spending so much time with Emily and Marnie that the Carter house almost felt like a second home. We’d celebrate birthdays together, spend weekends catching up and make memories that still make me smile.
He’s only two years older than me, so by the time I was finishing school, he’d already graduated, moved into his own place nearby and started building his career.
Even though he had moved out, I’d still see him every now and then whenever he came to visit Emily or his parents.
Every time I saw him, my heart skipped a beat.
I never admitted it to anyone, but I had the biggest crush on him.
Daniel was the kind of person everyone respected. He was hardworking, humble, loyal and always put his family first. He never needed to be the loudest person in the room. He had a quiet confidence that drew people to him.
I honestly thought he had no idea how I felt.
Years later, Emily told me something I’ll never forget.
She smiled and said, “You know Daniel had the biggest crush on you, don’t you?”
I laughed because I thought she was joking.
She told me that whenever Daniel came home, he’d quietly ask, “Is Angela here today?”
One day he finally admitted to Emily that he’d liked me for years, but he never wanted to make things awkward. I was one of her closest friends, and he respected that too much to risk making me uncomfortable.
All those years, I’d convinced myself I was the only one stealing glances across the room.
The whole time, Daniel had been hoping to see me too.
When we finally started spending more time together, everything felt so natural.
We could talk for hours, laugh about absolutely nothing and somehow never run out of things to say.
It felt like we’d known each other forever because, in many ways, we had.
One evening we were sitting together talking about life and how strange it was that we’d finally found each other after all those years.
Daniel reached over, took my hand and smiled.
“I think we were always meant to find each other, babe.”
Looking back now, I don’t think our love story began when we started dating.
It began with shy smiles.
With quiet conversations.
With a secret that only Emily knew.
With two people who cared deeply for each other but never believed the other felt the same way.
People often think love stories begin with a first date.
Ours began years before that.
Sometimes the best love stories don’t happen all at once.
Sometimes they grow quietly over time until one day, everything simply falls into place.
And when I look at Daniel now, I can’t help but smile knowing that all those years ago, while I was secretly hoping he’d notice me…
