one of the things I really like about longlegs is that it does the “characters in a horror movie can’t spot the obvious implications for themselves in the narrative” VERY purposefully like from the moment you hear ruby has a birthday coming up the ending is locked in and all the pieces are there for agent carter and lee to put together but they CAN’T see themselves in the story because the point is that the violent potential of the family must remain hidden. from carter’s perspective he could never be a part of the case because the crime of family annihilation is foreign to the unit he has created and he can’t believe lee’s theory that longlegs could be working with an accomplice because the evil must be located in the bogeyman himself, not anyone he would willingly let into his home. and lee could never be part of the case because her entire life has been crafted so that she cannot recognize her role in it down to the door in her own house. the thing that’s lurking isn’t a cypher to be solved it’s the stories your family isn’t allowed to talk about

people tie themselves into such knots over the villain's design in longlegs, for what is literally (spoiler warning) an ugly old glam rocker. yes, there's a certain coding to men, especially grotesque men, with feminine traits, but this character and story is such a vastly differently coded, differently presenting, multifaceted thing. it's a powder-white genderless theatre ghost, the somnambulist from doctor caligari, and a spectre of the psychedelic counter-culture of the '60s, as well as a projection of the much more general, complicated anxieties of that time. it's a nightmare a little kid has after watching an iggy and the stooges music video. it's a weird emanation of the cultural unconscious, as all good movie monsters are. imho, anyway.

After the Save Warrior Nun campaign debacle I kinda lost all hope of cancelled queer shows being brought back. We fought for months and months, we put up billboards and made murals... I don't think NCIS has the type of fervor behind it from the public to have that kind of support.

But I will still do my part. Because if nothing else we can't stay quiet while they erase us. We can't roll over and let them push us back into the closet. Silence is never the answer.

NCIS Hawaii really was a rare thing. Female lead, queer couple front and center in a major way, lots of native representation... It didn't feel like just another NCIS show.

So of course it was always at risk. As far as I'm aware their ratings were good. I thought they had survived the quarantine and strike fallouts...

But still they get the boot.

Seriously though, how come this woman has not completely flooded my dash already???? I am flabbergasted. I am dismayed.

I seriously can not and will not get over her. The answer to my complaints about the rising "single dad figure rescues a kid" trope, and it's lack of female counterparts. A gaurdian figure to child-sized protagonists that not only adequately attempts to protect them from the violence they're up against, but also gives genuine parental smack downs. Who balances her well meaning criticism with genuine love and support?

I honestly do not think I have ever encountered a mentor figure in a narrative who has done the job even half as well as Sophia.

On top of that??? She's a freaking pirate queen. So legendary, they call her the Sea Scorpion! How cool is that?

I fully did not expect her to make it through the entirety of the game, but let me tell you I was thrilled that she got to live, and remains a part of Amicia's life. Im so happy they have a positive adult role model and protector.

Finally watched Bottoms and... yeah...

I was really excited for this film and really tried to like it but I just couldn't connect with it.

Let's start with the positives, the acting was great (congrats to the cast), the sound, music and the costume design caught my eye/ear.

Now... the humour (which is subjective, I know) just didn't land.

The world they built was just so weird. I get it was a satirical take on north America's high school culture but I just couldn't connect with it (maybe because I'm European, idk).

The main characters weren't likable, and I know they weren't supposed to be, but to me they were too unlikable and I didn't much care for their story. They were just repeatedly bullying Hazel who was to me the best character of the film and who I just wanted to give a hug.

And the whole feminism part of the film and the humour around it just felt badly done.

Maybe I'm the odd one out.

A three movies deal is good, and i won't complain, but i'm also kinda scared of it. I feel like the world of Warrior Nun fit really well a tvshow format, because it allows for more world building and for characters to developp, by themselves and as a group. How is that gonna translate to a movie? Will we get to see as much character growth? Is it even gonna be the same cast? The same story? I am scared besties, i am hyped but i am scared.

Don't get me wrong, I am immensely happy for the return of Warrior Nun. And that we might even get spin offs and prequels or whatever in the future.

But I also must admit that I prefer TV series to movies in every way. In series you have time for slower, character and relationship establishing moments. You have space for contemplation, logging and letting things develop in a more natural way (and other extra things like recurring jokes and themes, etc). And for funny side adventures, of course.

In movies you just don't have time for that. I am so used to Avatrice in that way that idk how to feel about the news.
