Yeah I checked the weird ending of chapter 4 and Kris had their SOUL out there. They put it back in after the ending, presumably to keep themself from getting weak and sickly like they did in the regular route.

Yeah it's skipping through things with this black screen with "Nothing changed" popping up. Anyways I presume she's still doing the depersonalization thing she just described.

Rudy is still falling down, to absolutely nobody's surprise. After all, nothing changed. "Because a Noelle is just a Noelle."

Susie wasn't sure for a sec if Kris was alive. I presume she pulled Kris and Noelle out of the lake.

Well I found SOMETHING. And exactly in the one place I figured was most likely to have something.

Confirmation that the weird route is done, for better or worse.

But on the other side...

Lmao. Threw themself into the water. This feels like pretty clearly a Krusielle thing. Kris WANTS to be with Noelle, but also doesn't want to mess up her and Susie's thing.

So there we have it. The weird route is done. The alternate route ultimately leads us right back to the regular route. As Noelle so astutely put it, nothing changed. They seemed like they were going to, for awhile, but no. The Dark Bead broke off but remained locked. The Rose is shattered, but it's still a Rose and still set on the same tragectory. I always suspected this would ultimately be how the weird route would coexist with the knowledge that Deltarune has only one ending., back in the chapter 2 era I suspected the game wouldn't acknowledge the weird route at all due to how Kris railroads things back to end the same way as the regular route.

I'm gonna assume that Susie explicitly saying "it's over" means there's nothing left changed and go back and experiment with the weird route cutscene. It's gonna be painful though because Kris moves so slow at first and Noelle talks so slowly and you can't skip through her dialogue.

So first I noticed just now while putting these screenshots in that I managed to get a screenshot in with the snipping tool while it was fading to white. It doesn't have much detail, it's too small, but... That looks like a dialogue option, presumably another "proceed". I was lying, possibly, when I typed that paragraph about how "the weird route is done". There might be a little bit further to push, if I move quick enough.

UM. Not what I EXPECTED on the other side of the lake.

I'm not really sure what to make of this. But for now, it's clearly an ending. There are no save points, and it boots you back to the chapter select screen. So there's nothing more here and presumably won't be until chapter 7. Maybe chapter 7 is set on the other side of the lake? I'm not really sure.

Now I guess I'll torment myself clicking stop and resetting to see other abort moments.

Just noticed... is this standard? Is Kris supposed to have 5HP missing, or did I just take damage against the titan on this save file and it didn't heal due to Kris sleeping poorly or whatever other reason?

If it's standard and happens even if the save file ended with Kris at full HP, that's another case of Kris self-harming.

So despite their objections they comply as Noelle pulls them deep, yet deeper. Until they've gone far enough that the part of them that wants to back out changes its mind and we hit what would be the point of no return.

And that final "Proceed" from Noelle, was what I assumed to be the point of no return. Mashing time, I guess.

We're riding it, now, and Susie is wondering if everything is good with Kris. But she gets distracted by an "Earthquake", making Kris laugh. And now she has them in a headlock and they're pretending to sleep.

Susie is the designated pillow friend(or something else). It is her. Kris has confirmed it.

Well, there you have it, folks. Noelle Holiday admitting that she was wrong about Kris changing. And now, the wind is blowing and we have a proper dialogue box. Based on the dialogue, I'm guessing flashback sequence?

"Fahaha! When did you say you made up that song?"

Oh it's Susie. "...okay, now you do one." Is this just the same interaction as with the regular route? Now that Noelle has reached this realization are things just going to be shoved back onto the main route? Is this the end?

"Me? Um, OK..."

Yeah okay she's singing her french fries song and sitting politely while Kris is pressing table patterns into their face. I think. The end is coming much sooner than expected.

Yeah it's skipping through things with this black screen with "Nothing changed" popping up. Anyways I presume she's still doing the depersonalization thing she just described.

Rudy is still falling down, to absolutely nobody's surprise. After all, nothing changed. "Because a Noelle is just a Noelle."

Susie wasn't sure for a sec if Kris was alive. I presume she pulled Kris and Noelle out of the lake.

"Me and Noelle... uh, we kinda ended up, uh... ... You know where she is? I went to get some ice cream for her, and she's just... ...gone. I wanna go look for her, but I... I dunno, you don't need to be here alone, right? ... Get up. Let's go."

Kris fell over immediately. Seems they didn't quite recover from that.

"Ok... Obviously we need to go Zorgon mode" This is a reference I do not understand, clearly... Okay I never watched that movie so I still don't know how Zorgons are relelvant to this.

In any case it worked, Kris is walking normally again.

Eventually, Flowery is going to run out of dialogue, and then… Well, we saw a golden flower split in two back in chapter 3, didn’t we? I’ve been thinking about it this whole time. Mostly fantasizing about turning Flowery into it. But of course, the Knight almost certainly has me covered on that front.

And nobody was surprised.

Despite the bad blood between them, Ralsei still tries to heal him. But it misses.

He and Flowery both know it won’t work. But he has to try. Because that’s just who he is. That’s something being Ralsei-like means.

“Now, our caretaker is gone, and we’ll…”

Susie, of course, promises to take care of the flowers, and swears to get Asgore back. Because that’s just who she is. That’s something being Susie-like means.

“Susie… Kris… The road ahead of you is draped in shadow, but… But I know you can do it, as long as you stay together. You two… have the inner light that can save this world. I… just wish I wasn’t… so useless…”

Ralsei has something to say to that.

“You aren’t useless, Flowery. Having something to take care of… … gave Asgore purpose too. Just being a flower, that’s enough for him.” “Ah, Raly. You’re not half bad yourself, you know that? Maybe in another life, we could have… been friends…”

The purpose talk, for once, is directed at the right audience. In this moment, it's perhaps not the best thing for Flowery to hear, but it's still actually functional encouragement. Ironically, not a darkner, even if Ralsei still extends the "must fulfill purpose and serve lightners" attitude towards plants.

And there he goes. Rest in peace, Flowery. You didn’t deserve to go out like this. Unlike Tenna, I don’t think getting all the recruits will save him.

“... he just had to go and be dramatic, didn’t he. Idiot.”

Susie has nothing to say at the fountain.

Susie is going to try to find something to help Flowery. But of course, it’s too late. She won’t be able to save him.

Susie interrupted before Kris could do it. Thank fuck. It was, after all, our last chance to get the police code.

“Another code”? What do you mean “another”?

…Maybe Flowery will recover after all. The damage doesn’t seem that bad now that he’s taped up. But Susie apologizes like Blue and Yellow aren’t loving sharing a container.

Susie has something to explain.

“Before we sealed the first fountain… Flowery talked to me. …and told me that Asgore used to be the police chief. And still had his shelter code buried in Flowery’s soil! He… told me not to tell anyone about it, but… …guess he told you, too, huh? …anyways, let’s get out of here. Fast.”

“(Papers. Looking closely, it’s not just receipts.) (...But you never liked looking closely.)”

I don’t think I would like looking closely at this shit, either, knowing for sure now that the divorce was caused by Asgore's obsession.

“How much longer are they gonna keep taking more people? And how much longer… are those people gonna be safe?” Well, until next week, of course. But Susie doesn’t know that.

“... hey, Kris. I know this, probably isn’t good timing. Maybe, it’s actually the worst timing, but… … Would you, uh… Would you mind walking me home? There’s… something I want to talk to you about.

Who on earth would choose NOT to walk with her?

Confirmation that Susie does absolutely live in that one apartment building. But as I suspected, that’s not what she meant.

Eventual Krusielle stocks may be up.

“Since that day in the closet… Since our first adventure… Kind of feels… like all this has been… Our special… Kris and Susie thing. Our thing no one can take away. Our secret. Our adventures. Our thing that’s just better. If it’s just the two of us. You… feel the same way, right Kris?”

I’m not sure if I expected a dialogue option or not. But there’s not one.

“...yeah.”

“I guess… what I want to say is… Kris, this can’t just be our “adventures” anymore. People are in… actual danger. Your dad, is in actual danger. We can’t mess up anymore. We have to tell someone. Someone closer to the shelter codes. Someone who can help us fight. Kris, this can’t just be a me and you thing. It needs to be… Noelle’s thing, too.”

Agreed. And Berdly, while we’re at it. He’s close to the Booms, after all. There’s a REASON Lancer considers him part of the Lancer Fan Club despite him being a more minor character compared to Kris, Susie, and Noelle.

“Kris… Thanks for walking me home.”

Susie closes the door, and roll credits.

YOU DID NOT JUST HIT US WITH RALSEI AND SUSIE RECREATING THE UNDERTALE ENDING WITH TORIEL BRINGING FRISK PIE WHILE THEY SLEEP. EVIL. MY EMOTIONS. EVIL.

Kris seems… upset? Maybe because of Suselle, maybe simply because the plan just got a lot more complicated with Noelle about to be more heavily involved.

…So that’s the normal route done. Toby didn’t give us a year for chapter 6’s release. He’s never clarified the plan for the release of chapters 6 and 7, so who knows how long it will be or if they’ll release together. And with us still not having all the shelter codes, we have no clues whatsoever as to where the next dark world will be, beyond MAYBE the hospital or Noelle’s house.

In general, final thoughts? 

I feel like this chapter definitely lost out being separated from chapters 3 and 4. It didn’t move the plot forwards a lot compared to the last two chapters beyond Asgore getting taken and obtaining a singular shelter code. Neither of which are huge leaps forwards on their own, as Undyne being taken already served as the moment the stakes skyrocketed and while getting Asgore’s code is big it doesn’t mean a lot until we get the other two. It's a pretty big chapter with a lot more life to it than chapter 4's lack of unique named darkners, but it feels small compared to 3 and 4 since those were a bundle and both moved the plot forwards far more with chapter 3 serving as the end of the game's first act and chapter 4 being very lore-heavy from start to finish.

…The festival was kinda disappointing. For how hyped up it was, it didn’t really amount to much. Just a few shipping choices that don’t really matter because Suselle happens anyways, and some Pizzapants stuff. I don’t mind some simple ship content but the narrative treated it like it was going to be more than that. Almost nobody is there I was hoping for at least interactions with the rest of the class. Where's Catti being pissed off about Suselle. I’m particularly disappointed at how Berdly’s presence was handled after chapter 4 made it clear that Kris was very much open to being his date. Could we not have, at minimum, had something like, Kris choosing to ride the ferris wheel with him while Noelle and Susie do something together?

Suselle being officially canon is big. I think most people expected that to be saved until the end similarly to Alphys and Undyne in Undertale. Yet there are some clear Krusielle crumbs, as well as Bluebirds and Kralsei crumbs(as much as a certain subreddit has permanently killed my ability to have any interest whatsoever in the latter ship, I must admit there’s some content there that could be read that way.), so we’ll see how the relationships within the Lancer Fan Club develops.

The Flowers, all things considered, were very solid characters. My main fear with the possibility of seven flower darkners was them being very one-note and having unbalanced screentime and while the six are all pretty simple they all got enough characterization to feel like full-fledged individual characters, bounce off each other wonderfully, and all got a decent amount of screentime to the point that I don’t really feel like any of them were shafted in favour of the others. In terms of ranking them in the order I liked them I’d say Seth, Aqua, Yellow, Flowery(as a character to be clear.), Green, Blue, and then Orange. IDK I just didn’t care for her beyond her interactions with Pink. The “Plants aren’t Lightners or Darkners” reveal is as huge as it is utterly unsurprising if you take two seconds to think about Flowery’s eponym. In dark worlds, plants have the consciousness and bodies with which to live out their dreams, but only for a little while, because plants need light to survive. Which is of course why Pink is the eighth flower despite neither her nor her body being a plant. This is the world of her dreams, where she’s found a unique relationship with her newfound body that is only possible in the dark world, but it cannot exist forever, even if she’s welcome in Castle Town. And it recontextualizes the cactus. Because I went back and checked its dialogue. “(... can I... look like this... can I... dream like this...)”. It, too, focuses on the ideas of loving the Lightners who care for them but being helpless to repay that, and of living out their dreams for a time.

Given the focus on the dreams of plants, if I were to give the dark world forms of plants a name similar to Dustners for deceased lightners revived as Darkners like the Old Man, it would be Dreamner.

Pink is huge. Couldn’t have asked for a better finale for the crystal holders. Very cool that they addressed how Ghosts work in the dark world, and it’s also good to have a name for Pink separate from the protagonist of Mew Mew Kissy Cutie. I look forward to seeing her, and Seam, again. With so little to go off for what could be coming in chapter 6, that’s possibly the thing I look forward to most. I’m still clinging to hope that there will be some final challenge, but either way I really want to see how this plotline ends. Also, like I said in that part. Plurality/plurality adjacent things just keep coming up in UTDR. At this point it’s very clearly deliberate at least in Deltarune. On the topic of which, I need to see if there’s any other new Mike content than what Toby showed us early, because I REFUSE to not give Tenna to Mettaton. He wants his new home and he’s getting it, end of story.

…I hope for Noelle’s sake that Rudy recovers. But he’s Fallen Down. If nothing else, that’s the final nail in the coffin for Knight!Rudy, not that it really ever made much sense(It certainly could have been fun, but the Knight’s actions just didn’t line up with Rudy’s condition. It spent too much time just hanging around in chapter 4 for it to make sense for them to be a dying man.) The black shard at the scene of the Dessappearance is also the final nail for Knight!Carol. If the Knight is ANYONE other than Dess they were directly and personally responsible for it, and I simply do not believe Carol would do that.

Hopefully Seam’s words about the Shadow crystals containing the power of Lost Dreams, will finally kill this year-long misconception that the Knight is the one distributing shadow crystals. We always knew that the Knight couldn’t have been the one to give Jevil his crystal, with him having been locked away long before the Knight appears and Seam specifically and deliberately differentiating between the strange someone Jevil met and the Knight. We always knew that the Knight didn’t have any opportunity to plant Gerson’s crystal in his desk, as he was sitting at it when they passed through his study. And with this context, we can safely say that Spamton’s crystal was born of the NEO body itself, Mettaton’s “Lost Dream.” Pink’s most likely also stemmed from her in a similar manner. We can further infer that Gerson’s crystal was formed of Alvin’s Lost Dreams, him giving up writing because he thinks he’s disrespecting Gerson’s legacy by doing so. The Knight’s crystal, of course, was born of its own Lost Dreams. Jevil’s crystal is the only one that remains a mystery. Given Jevil's connection to Seam, and Seam's to Asriel, perhaps Asriel produced it after the Dessappearance? But that's just a guess, ultimately, and I doubt Jevil will ever give us much more information about it, especially without being cryptic as ever about it.

Flowery’s fight, while very cool conceptually and absolutely beautiful asthetically, was not very enjoyable aside from the last stretch. The orange SOUL feels very awkward to use, doesn’t give you an adequate chance to figure out the mechanics with easier attacks(which is weird because Toby is usually VERY good at introducing new mechanics in a way that eases into them naturally, even when he's just reintroducing mechanics from Undertale to Deltarune, and here we have something entirely new and he just throws us into it instantly.), and I don’t think I’ll ever get used to it in no small part because a lot of the attack patterns kinda suck. It’s not enjoyable to dash at the right time and then get hit anyways because a white bullet spawned right behind the one you needed to dash through. Just overall a needlessly fustrating fight. The last part after he absorbed the power of the other six flowers was amazing though.

Platforming sections were incredibly fun, I hope that mechanic sticks around like climbing has.

Ralsei's characterization here is very fun, it's nice seeing him so openly express anger, and the handling of his hat is excellent. I feel like the Flowery stuff could have been more thoroughly resolved, but either way it's solid progression in his arc and I look forwards to seeing where it goes from here.

At the end of the day… I enjoyed it. A lot.

But there's still more for me to see. It's time to get weird.

He’s right, of course. Kris, Susie, and Ralsei have the power to change fate. But as usual, he’s saying it for entirely self-serving ends.

…We’re at the apex, now.

“So you made up your minds… Listen. Since the beginning, we were love… Your father grew us, a rainbow bouquet of seven flowers… as a proposal to your mother.”

Nothing we couldn’t already infer. Why else would Asgore care so dearly about these specific flowers above all the others he’s grown? And of course it’s ironic. He pushes aside these flowers, symbols of his love for Toriel, in a desperate attempt to get her, and everything else he once had, back.

“Flowers, that were only supposed to live for one smiling day… And yet, he did not let us go. He kept us alive, alongside his love… Every day, he watered us. He talked to us. He sang his dreams to us. And each day, we wished we could do something in return. His friend grew sick, and we could do nothing. His money ran out, and we could do nothing. His family left him, and we could do nothing. And yet he still cared for us…! Weak, useless flowers… flowers that could do nothing in return! But now… our time has come! For flowers to be the heroes! And build a world… where all his kindness can be repaid!”

Again, nothing we couldn’t already infer. The flowers were motivated by Asgore’s kindness, by wanting to repay him for the years and years he cared for them.

“Kris! This is your final chance! If you really believe your world is better… Then stand against us!”

“...Flowery, didn’t you say they went home…” “I… I thought… if they wanted to prove…” “How could I have let this happen… I was so obsessed with finding out about the Dark World… that I didn’t make sure you were…”

“Even so… seeing the aftermath of my failure…”

Nevermind. Papers, papers everywhere.

And isn’t that just how it always goes with Asgore Dreemurr? No matter what world it is, tragedy will find its way to him, shattering his family, and his grief-driven reaction will only shatter it further, leaving him alone to stew in self-hatred for years on end.

The Papers all connect to the Asgore silhouette with red strings with C4 thorn ring equip sounds.

“One that ultimately drove your mother away. I thought if I could just prove it… prove I was right. It would fix everything.

Toriel is gone, unsurprisingly. Asriel and Kris will most likely follow.

Interesting that Asgore chooses to refer to the dark world as a dream, despite knowing perfectly well it isn’t. Though perhaps he meant his dream-turned-nightmare of proving his innocence.

Asgore’s walking away. Flowery is begging for his attention. And Asgore hits him with what might be the thing he least wants to hear.

“Flowery… …You do know I was just playing along, right? My only goal was to find the truth. If anything, your actions towards me… made me realize, well… how it feels to receive… such unasked-for attention.”

Flowery made Asgore realize how he made Toriel feel.

“Asgore, listen! This world, it’s perfect for you! I’ve seen how alone you are! You want to go BACK!?” “Flowery. Even if I wanted to… I couldn’t stay.” “Why?” “Back in the real world, my shop is waiting. It’s not right to leave it empty.”

And those words. Those simple words. A variation of the thing UT!Toriel, and UT!Asriel, once said, about the flowers on Chara’s grave. 

Toby really is a master of dialogue, because I saw it coming and it still hit me emotionally.

And thankfully. Flowery accepts this. In his words, “If that’s what he wants… that’s what he wants.”

Cutscene’s over. And Flowery is waiting to say goodbye.

…Or not. We’re saying goodbye to ALL the flowers, it seems.

Aqua thanks us for watching her dream of playing and having fun.

Green thanks us for watching their dream of being a chef.

Yellow thanks us for watching his dream of being a cowboy.

Blue thanks us for watching his dream of feeling movement in his limbs.

Despite everything, I don’t hate Flowery. I certainly dislike him, he’s an asshole, but he’s an excellent character and he means well. Yet maybe the opposite of  “I miss Tenna” was, “I don’t forgive Flowery. But I understand him, and I’ll still miss him, in a way.”

…We’re at the Fountain. I don’t trust this. Not for a second. Kris may have opened this fountain, but they didn’t do it on a whim. It’s something they planned with the Knight, and last time there was a clear strategic reason for why Kris was the one to open the fountain. Even if the Knight is late again, I don’t buy that they aren’t on their way, and this is its last chance to show up.

Asgore is going to keep taking care of the flowers for his own sake.

He wants to reassure Kris that the two of them can tell Carol everything they saw, so that she can do anything she can to help. “The more people who are safe from this, the better.” And he can’t say enough how sorry he is. “But… you’ve grown up a lot, haven’t you? When your brother finally comes home… I can’t wait to see how proud he’ll be of you.”

He is NOT fooled by Ralsei’s hat. But he’s also not fooled by his resemblance to Asriel. Maybe before, before he let go of his obsession, he would have been, but regardless, now he’s perfectly capable of recognizing that… “The longer you look, the harder it is to tell if they’re a monster at all.” And regardless, Kris accepts Ralsei. Asgore hopes Ralsei realizes that he doesn’t need to hide himself. Which is sweet, even if he doesn’t realize Ralsei already has realized that.

He and Toriel worried that Asriel would end up Kris’ only friend. But they’ve met someone wonderful. Someone who would fight by their side through danger… but also has an interest in flowers. Susie is welcome to come to Asgore’s shop anytime, and he’ll give her a free snapdragon. Because of course that would be the flower he’d give her.

I reiterate. I don’t trust this. I don’t fucking trust this is the ending at all. But there’s nothing else to do, no more stalling to be done.

How old is Pink? It’s never actually been that clear for either version of her beyond her having crushes on characters known to be adults and beyond UT!Blooky being known to be old enough to have met Toriel prior to her departure. Mew Mew, the character, sounds like she might be a teenager, but that doesn’t really matter to Pink’s age, because she’s not the character, she’s a ghost and a darkner body.

For the purposes of this not being weird and creepy, I'm going to assume that DR!Pink, at least, is ~17. UT!Pink could still easily be much older, birth years are very different between the two worlds.

This looks like some really good sh*t. The obvious increased invincibility frames from Seth's glasses, Healing when defending from Green's apron, a 20% boost to all spells from Yellow's hat, increased crit rate for Kris from Aqua's knife(Though I highly doubt that'll be better than the blackshard tbh), reduced Scythemare cost from Orange's gloves(TBH this seems like the worst of the bunch by FAR.), and the expected Ralsei weapon in Blue's shoes(oddly? Not a scarf???), giving free pacifies, which seems excellent because usually there really doesn't seem to be much reason to ever tire an enemy out and spend TP on pacifying them over sparing them for free with anyone. With the shoes I might actually USE pacify more than once in a blue moon. I walked right into that fucking pun I'm so sorry but if I have to suffer realizing it so does everyone who reads this.

Personally, I think I'll be taking the glasses, because Seth is probably my favourite of the flowers, the hat, and the shoes. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

I checked the shop while looking in the cliffs... Orange is here with Pink.

Ferrol the smith is here giving us the option to locate the remaining pink coins, and a new path has opened up.

I still have one in the garden, three in the cliffs, three in the east castle, and one in the top of the castle. Since I got one from right in front of the door, that means there's 19 in total. We shall see if Ferrol or Pink have a reward for us when we collect them all.

Is the Knight's origin story really all that important to the prophecy, Ralsei? The how of how they ended up like this doesn't really matter to the fact that they ARE like this. I don't see why it would necessarily be covered in the prophecy.

Who are these darkners and why are they not enemies, they're incredibly cool. They seem to be doing the same kind of reverse orchid mantis deal that Lurantis has going.
