TGCF LIVE ACTION (aka Eternal Faith/吉星高照) BEGINS FILMING
Ok so I know it's a big fandom no-no to post leaks, and I do plan to respect that rule after this, but much like for the 2HA live action, I just want to post a few at least once to commemorate the occasion on my blog, so that when it's all done and we finally see the finished product, I can come back here and laugh at how prematurely optimistic or pessimistic I was. And sadly, for TGCF live action, gotta admit, my mood is more on the pessimistic side so I really hope there will be a day when I look back at this post and smh at how foolish I was being.
I don't know the work of either actors who are our HuaLian (Zhai Xiaowen as Xie Lian, Zhang Linghe as Hua Cheng)...based on looks, they're not bad looking, but I never thought it would be hard to find two looking dudes to play HuaLian anyway, so ultimately it's all about the acting and chemistry for me. However, just from these early glimpses, I can't say they look great in the costume. Dianxia's wig looks odd on him and Hua Cheng's ribbon is way too thick.
It's also missing the all important bead from what I can tell, which is very distressing.
I know it's near impossible to detect the chemistry between them this early on and from just stills, but I guess I would've liked if they looked like they were happy to be in this production? I'm probably being unreasonable about that tho cuz maybe most of these ceremonial pics just caught them during their serious moments.
The bigger issue honestly are those outfits and their general looks in costume. ZXW looks like he's drowning in Dianxia's robes... it's as if Rouye suddenly became big and is trying to cocoon him or smg. San Lang's outfit is downright SAD. Like holy shit did they have a smaller budget than Word of Honor?? This whole ensemble just makes them look like discount bin HuaLian and that HURTS me. Now, someone suggested this might just be a dress rehearsal which, please gods, let that be true. I can only PRAY they're right, otherwise, wow did the production team fuck up. Where was their frame of reference?? They have a perfectly amazing donghua AND manhua to use as references so how could they have fucked up so bad if this is the real thing??? I honestly don't even want to believe in what I'm seeing.
Nan Feng and Fu Yao...my condolences to your ensembles.
Anyway kinda bummed out overall about these first looks, BUT I also know it's really too early to judge, maybe things will improve, it could all still come together well, their chemistry can be explosive, the show may be more awesome than anything we've ever seen, miracles can happen, so I'm gonna keep hoping for the best.
UPDATE: so some peeps are saying they might've just worn those bargain outfits for camera tests today, they're not really filming for real, so we may have freaked out for nothing. 😂😂😂 (OR...the production team saw the uproar about the crappy outfits and are scrambling to make new and better clothes for them now, hence that excuse...either way, thank the gods, change might be on the way).
