also, very random thought because of this episode’s case: what if Celia is getting dragged towards the crack not because it actually needed… any exchange? since fear of an idea seems to hold a lot of power in this realm (Sam with the skeleton, the singer when she thought a hand had touched her while she was in the water, and now with this case, Sarah afraid that she can’t escape Eleanor’s brother)… what if it’s just because she’s scared of being dragged back that’s causing it? anyway.

oh, alice. haha. have fun with that one… honestly amazing that alice was willing to just die right there and then, though. that’s incredible resolve.

the thing I love most about tmagp is that all the characters are in wildly different genres. celia is in a haunting portrayal of the lasting impact grief and guilt have on a person. sam is in a slasher. gwen is in a cutthroat workplace drama. alice is having a buddy cop adventure.

So we see the pattern now, right?

Sam was afraid of skeletons -> he manifested a skeleton to come alive and scratch him. Little german children were afraid of the doll -> the doll came alive. As the story and, simultaneously, the fear grew, it transformed into the shop, the toymaker and the toy.

So when the opera singer imagined white long hands in the dark water, she got scared and then, only then that thing actually appeared. I bet before she thought about the pale things there was something not-supernatural going on there, like a shark that smelled her blood. But as soon as she thought about the horrors and Got Really Scared, the horrors appeared.

Now it's clear how it's all connected to alchemy - if you can manifested something, the first thing you think about is "how can I control it and/or manipulate it to become something else".

I need to relisten to all previous episodes, it's fascinating

TMAGP 44 SPOILERS BELOW.

So, combining what we learned from Klara with what we learned from Lena, it’s starting to sound like:

1. FR3-d1 is “generating” the incidents we see come up as cases.

2. The OIAR sorts these cases under whatever category they belong (which likely belong under an overarching one or more of the four types of Dread).

3. Depending on where their numbers are at for each of the four types, the employed Externals are sent out to create MORE incidents of whatever type they’re short on to keep things balanced.

In other words, we don’t have Smirke’s categorization, but a new categorization. What’s interesting is, why do they have to be balanced in this universe? Does it have to do with some equivalent to the TMA universe rituals if one type gains too much power above the others?

Like some “terrible things” have happened but I’m not convinced Sam went through the portal and Collin got eaten by FR3-d1 BECAUSE of a type imbalance. I think much worse can happen. (“We can do worse than that!” /lh)

Bonus, but I like how Lena had a “I just work here” mentality. Because that is extremely accurate for a “boss” and so very relatable.
