AARON HOTCHNER 1.06 - L.D.S.K.
allow me to influence you to read the Criminal Minds novels
From: Jump Cut by Max Allan Collins (2007)
Not enough people talk about how sexy Derek Morgan is. Not just in terms of looks, but his personality. When he gets all soft and caring, he is SO HOT
The more gentle his voice is, when he does his little head tilt and he speaks so gently, the more turned on I get
Also him being all loud and protective... EQUALLY HOT. The fact that the more outraged he is about an injustice, the louder he is... very hot
ya dancing.
i feel like enough people don't put stock into how intelligent morgan is and it really disturbs my soul. y'all know he literally graduated from a T10 law school right...
once again reminding everyone of the delightful and very important fact that morgan canonically went to a better law school than hotch
i’ve been rewatching the first season of criminal minds (as one does) and I can’t help but notice and yearn for the attention to detail that slowly started fading in the later seasons. i miss the scholastic choice of colors and lightning that seemed just right for the show, the quirky transitions, the random slow-mo shots like at the end of the first episode where it dramatically zooms into Gideon’s eyes while he is being chased by the gunman, the comedic relief :( i know that as the show became bigger everything had to be more simple and standaridized but the first few seasons have a charm to them that the others lack. and it pains me so much when I see people say that they skip the first 3 seasons of the show because they don’t like Gideon or because they think it’s obvious that Mandy Patinkin hated the role. personally, I don’t think it’s that obvious, and if it was then it certainly served its purpose because as the show went on Gideon didn’t particularly love his job either. what do you mean you skipped the first 3 seasons??? the seasons that gave us revelations, profiler profiled, seven seconds, lucky???? not to mention some of the best finales. no one probably cares about this but I love this show and i feel very strongly about it 😭
Tairn taking care of Violet appreciation post:
Because "No rider has ever survived the loss of their dragon. I can’t imagine wanting to." & also "A dragon without its rider is a tragedy"… and Tairn knows; he is the only living being to come close to understanding what Violet is going through… because he lost his rider and that loss nearly killed him.
— It’s why he told her she must survive after her mother died. "You are alive. You will live today. You will wake tomorrow."
— It’s why he reminds her over and over; she is his last rider, this is their life, he won’t lose her to it, he will not live with that. "I chose you not as my next, but as my last, and should you fall, then I will follow."
— It’s why he forces her to breathe. "You will breathe." … He’s the only one that can… Tairn knows. Tairn exists. Tairn makes sure she is not alone, and you hear it in the following quotes… almost like a debate to her inner monologue… actually quite literally that; he is cancelling it out.
Violet is losing her vision: "The sky darkens, and the ground trembles. I look up into the black void, and my vision narrows in an ever-shrinking circle." — Violet sees him instead. "Not the sky. A wing." — Piercing through to her. "Stern, demanding golden eyes appear." — Demanding to be seen.
Violet cannot breathe without her: "It’s gone. A breath later, so is she. A roar vibrates my very bones, and my ears ring as the edges of my vision darken. My heart stutters, and my lungs cease their struggle. There's no air and no reason to seek it. I was infinite yet moored, and now I'm hollow and adrift in waters too vast to comprehend." Tairn uses his power, demands, controls her to breathe and live so this does not kill her: "You will breathe!" His deep, gravelly voice fills my head, and unyielding strength barrels down the pathway that connects us."
Violet is nothing: "I’m nothing." Tairn exists, so she exists, so she cannot be nothing: "He exists, therefore I must, because we are bound. Never alone. Always connected."
Violet says: "She left us. She left us. She left us. It's all I can think." — Tairn interjects, reminds, demands her to stay and remember that & that not everyone left: "We remain," Tairn orders, as if I have a choice not to."
"Andarna is gone. But I’m never alone." — he never lets her be alone. Not for one moment… It’s why it changes from “left” from that abandonment, and a vague “she” summary, to “Andarna” and “gone”, it now sounds less like everyone and a summary of every loss (even if this one hurts more than any).
"Tairn leaves our bond wide open, giving me unfettered access to him in a way l've never had. He's always been with me, but now I'm with him, too. I hear his side of the conversation when he tells the elders about Andarna's departure. I hear him bickering with Sgaeyl over what he calls her excessive hovering, and I'm privy to the lecture he gives Xaden about making sure I eat." — he lets her in like no one else or any dragon rule (I imagine at least) would allow. Even letting her see him coddling, scolding, caring, protecting; making sure she eats. Being whatever she needs to keep breathing… and she is breathing.
"I exist for Tairn, but I live for Xaden." — and he doesn’t care what it takes, even with his current disdain for Xaden; if it keeps her alive he doesn’t care. "The emptiness threatens to overwhelm me again, — he doesn’t let it overwhelm her, he lends her strength (and presumably enough power to also survive it) — but Tairn inundates the bond with a deluge of defiance and indignation. "Focus on now, on him if you have to." — and she does have them to focus on — I still have both of them: Tairn and Xaden."
The fact that Violet got fucked (literally), betrayed by her boyfriend, heartbroken over losing her friend, betrayed by her dragons, hurt AND poisoned all in the same day is wild. You guys complain she’s “annoying” but I think she’s not half as annoying as she could have been. Matter of fact she should’ve set Riorson House on fire as soon as she woke up and saw HER BROTHER was fucking alive. She took it too well all things considered
idk something about this little interaction in 6.16 "Coda" is so hotchgan to me. derek's disbelieving little smile and head shake. he loves hotch so much and hotch has no fucking clue.
CRIMINAL MINDS ↳ 7x06 — Epilogue
NCIS 4x16 Dead Man Walking – NCIS: Tony & Ziva 1x03 Cover Story
I think one of my biggest grievances with the Empyrean fandom at the moment is whenever someone says that an animated series would work so much better than a live-action (because trust me, it would), so many people get offended by the idea that their favorite books could be cartoons -- which, corrections aside, is so unneeded. Where does this hate for animation come from, genuinely? Does everyone think that animations are automatically for children? Give me some reasoning to work with, people.
There are so many animated shows for adults, but if The Empyrean were animated like, say, Arcane:
Then the series would feel more fantastical than it ever could with live-action. Of course, support all artists, but CGI dragons and signets and actual people just wouldn't hit as hard as they would in this specific style. And, of course, it could give animators a great shot at employment for a project so big, since visual artists are losing their jobs rapidly due to the increased use of AI in the art field.
And if your only reason as to disliking animation is because, "The sex scenes won't look good!!!!!1!!!" then I cannot take your opinion seriously. Less than 5% of the first book is smut. Get real.
Say it with me: 🗣️ fantasy book series are better as animated adaptation than live-action 🗣️ I'm lowkey hoping this happens because I want amazing art from the animated series to overpower the Gen AI fanart that plagued our fandom SO BADLY. I agree with every point stated in the original post!
If people are apprehensive about an animated adaptation because the spicy scenes won't look good? (lmao) I have something to say to some of y'all: LOVE, DEATH, & ROBOTS. It's on Netflix, too.
I think something that doesn't get enough attention when writing criminal minds fic, especially queer criminal minds fics, is that all of these people lived through the AIDS crisis. Not as relevant for the girls who would have been too young to really understand what lesbians were doing with the movement and how it affected women and maybe Reid wasn't paying as much attention either. But Rossi would have just started the BAU a couple years prior when some of the first cases happened. Hotch would have been coming of age as it ramped up, likely figuring out his sexuality.
Oh, and Morgan would have turned 15 in 1990, the height of the deaths from the disease.
You know what else happened when Morgan was 15?
violet and xaden my house my throne my woman riorson :)
I don’t get people who complain that Violet complains about her chronic illness or some of the limitations it causes her.
Like gurl, what did you expect? We’re inside her head!
Have you watched Inside Out 2? God Anxiety annoyed the hell out of me for most of the movie but that’s exactly how it's suppose to be. Anxiety is supposed to make you feel that way. Because that’s what anxiety is.
Now jump to Violet, who’s a person with a chronic illness, and you seriously think she’s not going to complain or think about the disadvantage that gives her? In a deadly war college?
Especially (okay I’m probably like 99% biased) I actually don’t think Violet was as whiny as people make her out to be. (I know shocking that people call Violet what not because they want to ride Xaden's dick) She was more like: “Shit, I’m at a disadvantage. How can I use my brain not to fucking die?”
The only time I can remember Violet actually panicking was in Fourth Wing, when she caught Xaden coming back from a trip and couldn’t make it up the ramp. Gurl, be fr. That’s one of the most realistic reactions ever.
People say they don’t want a Mary Sue, but when we get a realistic display of struggles, they complain too.
Because that’s exactly what it is, realistic.
I think Rebecca Yarros found a really good balance between Violet’s internal monologue when she’s in pain or thinking 'okay what to do now?' and the ongoing action.
Remember when Violet was like “this maneuver will break my bones” (rightfully complaining), but in the same moment you’ve got Tairn being like
Tairn: You’re not gonna do that.
Violet: You can't change the rules!
Tairn: Watch me or I will have lunch. (Rip Kaori)
(Funny/sweet Tairn Dad moment)
Like, you can literally choose what you want to focus on. (This was Iron Flame Chapter 11)
