it's true that Nom and Sausage took the Creaking King's deal for a similar reasons: to protect their Kingdoms and the people they love. but I will not accept the argument that they're equally at fault, because though their reasonings were similar, their actions were VASTLY different.

because Nom was fundamentally misled about the resin from the beginning. the Creaking King phrased it like this: "eight extra hearts, and a cease to your spluttering cough, for a moment of discomfort. take this and eat, and you will become unstoppable. or don't, and die a retching, heaving mess of sweat and tears." no mention of selling his soul or becoming a vessel, no mention of doing anything in return. Nom thought that without this cure, he'd die of his sickness and be unable to protect his Kingdom. was it naive and foolish of him to take the deal? absolutely. but fundamentally, he was not given the whole truth and regretted it afterwards. and Nom acknowledged that even though he ate the resin, he'd never help the Creaking King, stating that he'd use those extra hearts to defeat him.

Sausage, meanwhile, knew exactly what he was doing and was perfectly willing to aid the Creaking King. he worked alongside him for weeks, bringing creaking hearts and sabotaging dungeon runs. Sausage allowed the Creaking King to make him a vessel, even as Nom implored him to refuse. he had such a warped perspective on life and death that I'm not surprised at all that he agreed to do it. Sausage truly thought it was the only way to end the war and protect the Red Kingdom. but what he and Nom did was absolutely not the same. they had more in common than Nom would ever like to admit, but one singular poor decision was not equivalent to continually aiding the entity that intended to bring destruction to Bannerfall.
