New Ace Flag

Is it safe to share that I feel like the whole discourse around the pink stripe on the new ace flag is just invented drama because people want to be mad, and apparently aromantics are the new target??? I get that people want to separate asexuality and aromanticism, I'm aroace spec and I agree, I may be both but they are different and we should stop conflating the two. HOWEVER, the flag just objectively doesn't do that, but everyone seems to be purposefully misunderstanding the meaning so they can argue about it.

To clarify - the pink stripe represents the fact that asexual and acespec people still feel other types of attraction/love, and those are equally as valid as sexual attraction/love. The reason aromanticism is included is because it lists queerplatonic love as a type of love, something which is felt by aromantic people and can be felt by some asexual people if they are also aromatic. It doesn't say we are the same, it just acknowledges some asexuals are also aromatic. Why is the acknowledgement of the overlap between some asexuals and aromatics a problem but the acknowledgment of asexuals and alloromatics isn't?

Point is people on twitter need to stop getting mad at everything and start reading more because their comprehension skills are bad, anyway Imma keep using the original flag because I like the colours more but freewill exists do what you want it's your life and your identity you're expressing, use the new one if you want

Mine and my friends VSMP college AU headcannons

We discussed what majors and minors we thought each character would have for this weekends halloween special college episode and this is what we decided, also some additional information

Owen - Wood work/carpentry at a trade school, at the party because his long distance bf Louis introduced him to Scott a while back and he brought him as a plus 1

Shelby - Theology major, in the same class as Avid and they sit next to each other in class. Rooming with Scott but he usually doesn't stay in dorms

Scott - Econ major and poli-sci minor, he met Louis in poli-sci class and Louis introduced him to Owen. Also he's in the drama club and always gets a main part or he throws a fit and threatens to have his parents withdraw funding from the college (they're the no.1 donors). He also pays Pyro to take all his exams for him

Avid - Chemistry major but minors in theology, he thinks Shelby is his best friend but I don't think its reciprocated, kind of flunks both his courses though

Legs - Bio major, maybe minoring in psychology

Cleo - Agriculture major, also doing a language as a minor but it's one she's spoke her whole life so she's doing it for an easy grade

Ren - Teaching assistant for the language course Cleo is on (mostly because I find it funny that with his already very confused accent he's then adding more onto that by speaking a foreign language most likely with the accent for accuracy of pronunciation, but really he's just even more difficult to understand)

Sausage - English/creative writing major

Abolish - Hospitality major because his parents made him do it

Martyn - Did go to an ivy league but was kicked at essentially the start of his first term, but he lies and tells everyone he's still there

Pearl - Doing an apprenticeship, not 100% sure what for though

Drift - Criminal justice major, started minoring in theology with Avid after her first year because he convinced her, tries to convince Avid to focus more on his studies but eventually gives up

Apo - Architecture major

Bonus:

Louis - Political science major, currently on a year abroad helping countries in political crisis and fighting to send aid to places in war, used to tutor a bunch of people at their college and helped Owen do maths for his course

Tumblr is my favourite social media because I can tell you all that my no.1 celebrity crush is a 67 year old Scottish man who has acted in several roles in which his whole character is that he just swears really aggressively at people and I won't face much judgement, if any

One thing that irks me about the x-men fandom is some people's reading of Magneto as a character, and how much it showcases peoples lack of media literacy and capacity for understanding nuance

I do understand that yes, it is a noble cause to fight against discrimination, and people see that and their first instinct is to side with him because they probably relate to being in a minority and resenting your oppressors. I get that, however, just because he is fighting against a corrupt institution (the systematic and social persecution and prosecution of mutants) that does NOT mean he is doing so in a moral way nor indeed with moral intention. I haven't read the comics so I can't speak to that, but I have watched the films several times and I can say for certain he doesn't just want mutant oppression to stop, he is calling for the eradication of all non-mutants either by mass conversion or ethnic cleansing. He has built so much resentment (rightfully so) that he just wants them gone, and of course that isn't helped by the fact that he was Jewish during WWII and was in camps which adds fuel to the flames of his hatred of oppressors - but none of that justifies the fact that he actively wants to make a group of people go extinct. Having said that he does also make several good points, and his perspective on things is understandable (would be more so if he didn't try to sacrifice a child for his cause, Rogue didn't deserve that), which is why I'm saying it's nuanced as opposed to just saying Erik is evil because that's not true either

None of this means I support Xavier's approach to solving the issue of mutant oppression though, because what do you mean he thinks the problem will go away if they all act like watered down versions of themselves and just make their differences either useful or more digestible? He's such a pick me if we're honest, and he tries to indoctrinate everyone at the academy to his weird mindset of just accommodating to intolerance which is ultimately why Mystique left - unlike Charles she couldn't make her differences more digestible for the oppressing class without entirely changing who she is, quite literally. If she walked around as herself she would have been hate crimed so much, and Charles' solution was just "then don't be yourself!" as if that actually fixes the problem

Basically Erik and Charles should just kiss and compromise on their solutions, it would genuinely fix everything

i once again need to yell abt the ocd rep in the batman unburied universe so here's some quotes i think about a LOT (from unburied s1 and r:sitd), as an ocd haver who loves the riddler and loves it when his ocd is actually written realistically and respectfully (obvious disclaimer that whilst this is accurate to MY experience, it doesn't necessarily mean it's accurate to yours, ocd is a wide range of experiences, etc etc). these r all direct quotes from the episodes themselves

from batman unburied episode 4:

BARBARA: And you have that terrible, all-consuming-pathology which compels you to find answers. RIDDLER: And I have that terrible, all-consuming-pathology that compels me to find answers. Yes.

and also (same episode):

BARBARA: It’s a leap. RIDDLER: Yes. But... I know a little something about compulsion. BARBARA: I guess you do. (beat) I’m gonna need some scotch tape and talcum powder.

from riddler secrets in the dark (i don't have the episode number on hand; i paused and rewound to transcribe this myself whilst listening in early 2024 and it's been sitting in my notes ever since):

RIDDLER: I can't just walk away. Because I have this stupid fucking tightness in my chest that feels like I might die if I leave a riddle unsolved- BATMAN: That doesn't make any sense. RIDDLER: Of course it doesn't make any sense! It's a fucking compulsion! You of all people should know that! You're just as crazy as I am!

there are absolutely more examples (i remember smthn abt him compulsively telling a riddle then asking barbara to ignore it and pretend it didn't happen, but i can't find a transcript and don't remember which episode it was) but i can't find the transcripts rn and don't have them on hand so this is all i can post for now. just know i was literally actively fistpumping in victory on my college commute listening to this shit

I may not have a formal diagnosis for OCD so I cant personally vouch for accuracy, but I heavy relate to compulsions and other symptoms of ocd, and I love the way it's handled in this portrayal of the riddler. Like, yeah, his compulsion is nonsensical, but if he doesn't adhere to it then he shows physical symptoms of stress, which I don't think is acknowledged enough in depictions of mental illness in media. Riddler secrets in the dark never fails to impress, haters will not be tolerated here
