Today's Seal Is: Bigs My Eyes At You

it's wild how much knowing that the Unending Isolation can and will in fact end (forest trips back on the menu in 3 weeks) does for my day to day mental health and also lets me appreciate what i have now instead of just viewing myself as a trapped primate in an understimulating enclosure
now that it is a place i leave and come back too i am able to appreciate the work i have done making it as peaceful and even as I am able, and im also able to aim higher on that front and i've been actively making it cosier. im spending less and less time on tumblr as this new brain medication kicks in and instead just relaxing in the silence
im sadder today but there's a tūi outside warbling in our magnolia tree and i am comfortable
seeking recommendations for good ambient music to be blissed out too, ideally without any instrumentation that could be described as "wailing" or "piercing" as i have hyperacusis and that hurts
disabled people, we don't need to care that the people who are stripping rights from people with intellectual disabilities or profound cognitive impairments because maybe they'll go after the rest of us next. we need to care now on the sole basis that these disabled people deserve their dignity. get involved with a disability rights charity or organisation wherever possible
i know the way people talk about their pets now is probably how weāve been doing it for all of history. a cat owner in ancient rome saw their cat lounging on the dining pillows and commented āhe thinks himself to be the senator claudius š¤£ā
The first attested cat in Japan was given to a young 9th century emperor and his diary about it includes such gems as 'I affixed a bow about its neck, but it did not remain for long.", "The color of the fur is peerless. None could find the words to describe it, although one said it was reminiscent of the deepest ink.", "When it lies down, it curls in a circle like a coin. You cannot see its feet. Itās as if it were circular Bi disk." and "I am convinced it is superior to all other cats.ā Basically posting about how his void is the best little void and so good at getting really round
im a simple man in my ideal world working full time should pay enough that you can quit and take several months off to do non work things if you wanna. save up and write a novel or go travelling with no consequence. and doing this doesn't fuck up your resume because it would be normal and healthy.
Uganda's oldest and largest licensed coffee exporter contributed their in-country expertise to the coalition to establish "model farms."
Due to where it is typically grown, coffee farms are particularly vulnerable to damage from erosion when rain comes either too intensely or too sparsely. A coalition assembled by the Global Environment Facility set up test farms to help provide local coffee farmers in Uganda with the resources to apply regenerative agricultural techniques to their local farming conditions.
The results have led to better yields, healthier soil that is less prone to erosion, and more stable income for farmers.
āBut since we applied mulches and planted drought resistant seedlings, the coffee farms are reliably resilient. My coffee is stronger and more promising, and so is my family.ā
Spin the wheel. That's who's trying to kill you.
Spin the wheel again. Thatās whoās trying to protect you.
(If you have zero idea about a name you got, spin until you see someone you recognize.)
Are you safe?
Absolutely not. I'm dead. 100% dead.
I might stay alive, but it'll be a really close thing.
I'll take some hits, for certain, but I should be okay in the end.
A few attacks might get through, but nothing concerning.
The attacker might be able to get in one lucky hit. If that.
I am the opposite of worried. I'm 100% safe.
ā¦Look. I've tried picturing this. But I honestly don't know how to answer.
(I've run this poll twice before, expanding it significantly for the second run. With about a year passed since that second run, I thought it was time to add another couple hundred names to the list and have another go.)
hey guysss so unfortunately the rumors are true and im leaving the narrative. Buttt the good news is my absence will create such a gaping hole in your lives that it will become a sort of presence itself, and so in a way it will kind of be like i never left! But i am. Leaving just to be clear.
july is disability pride month. it is also summer in the northern hemisphere, and this summer we have seen record breaking hot temperatures across the globe. it might be apt to remember that disabled people are a population vulnerable to extreme weather, and significantly more at risk of death or health issues during a heatwave. "the global mortality rate of people with disabilities in natural disasters is up to four times higher than people without disabilities." (source). disability may increase the relative risk of a heatwave more than old age, socioeconomic status, and being outdoors (source). even in the places most affected by the rising heat, disabled people are barely included in action plans for public safety, if at all (source). global warming is a an issue that affects a wide range of people, but let's not forget it is also a disability rights issue
"Whether someone understands it or not, these are the consequences of the political views they're espousing" is a pretty important analysis tool for online movements because quite honestly, over half of everyone engaging in politics online have no foundations for the stuff they're saying and are just saying whatever makes them feel like a member of an in-group.
If your in-group is "the left" you're very much not immune to this. In fact, trying to do left-wing politics without even trying to build a foundational political understanding is a great way to end up as a neo-nazi with a tumblr accent rather than an effective left-wing advocate.
a reminder for everyone, since one of the toughest things about writing posts about CritRole campaigns is checking when and what specifically happened, but there's tools to quickly search transcripts for all episodes so far.
there's a transcript search by Stuart Langridge. allows for filtering by speaker, shows each instance as its own result, and has timestamps to videos.
I prefer the Langridge search, but if you're having trouble with the search result limit on it, you can search the transcripts on Encyclopedia Exandria. hosting them in their own namespace allows for limiting search terms to transcripts only, and results can be filtered further down using categories (example searching for "Lana Strossa" in "Campaign 4 transcripts"). downside is it does not show each instance within an episode, only brings up each episode once, and has no timestamps, but it doesn't have a limit on the number of results and it includes transcripts for more one-shots than Langridge covers.
I had so many things I was going to get done with an extra day off. Even with the promise of socializing and lake shenanigans I was sure Iād use any down time to accomplish a few Very Important Tasksā¢ļø. No one should be surprised that I was wrong. I got sucked into procreate practice as both a wonderful indulgence utilizing provided circumstances and an innocent exercise in productive procrastination.
I did close out the weekend with a few new pieces that make me smile, and my skills are maybe a smidge further along than they were. Even though it wasnāt the ārightā thing to spend a hot and stormy weekend at the lake doing, I really enjoyed it. And that should be the point.
PS - Iām getting soooo close to actually launching The Void Deck! I am going to have a small table at a local Gothic Market this weekend as a kind of test run of everything and Iām so nervous š¬

The ancient world was full of textile masterpieces we can only imagine⦠but most of them have rotted away. So few of them have come down to us in these days that we think of metal and stone as the primary mediums for the oldest artworks. But there were tapestries and fabric work that would have rivaled the finest wrought gold and iron and the first cave paintings.
This is a incredibly rare find. A ball of yarn made from stinging nettle fibers in the Late Neolithic (5900 years old) in whatās now Marin-Epagnier in Switzerland. The thread has been preserved by being carbonized. Look at how much thread that is! And how fine and even it is spun! The skill going into this is absolutely incredible. Imagine the incredible textile work that mustāve been made with that. For a reference hereās a ball of nettle yarn I managed to make with a drop spindle. That took me 300 hours of work.
