I think disbelief has just as much power in magic as belief does. Disbelief is a ward in the same way that belief is a doorway.
theres no difference between exercise and black magic both of them hurt your body at first and drain you of energy but the more you dabble in it the more powerful you become
I watered my garden and then immediately afterwards it rained intensely for like 10 minutes and then the sky was clear again. It’s almost like the sky went “pfft you think that pitiable amount of 💧 is sufficient for my plant children? let me step in”
déjà rêvé happened again. again, a very mundane thing. listening to a podcast and playing a game on my ipad. which may seem predictable, but there is no way I could have known the content of the podcast because the episode was released just now, and because the game I play cycle through event maps, I don’t know which map is going to be open on a given day. I wasn’t going to listen to this episode but for some reason I pressed play on this one. strange…

I’ve been calling my plant sesame but it’s actually perilla (I was not mistaken about what the plants were, I just had the English word mixed up lol)
It is delicious nonetheless
The sea is a temple. The woods are a temple. Your own bedroom is a temple. The world is imbued with the spiritual. Worship is an act, not a place, and it can happen spontaneously, in reaction to the beauty of a moment.
I dreamt about being absolutely convinced that some restaurant’s beer is tainted? Despite having tried it and knowing it tasted fine and it didn’t make me ill or anything? And I kept trying to do something about it but I was on a bus and the bus kept going…
The reason I’ve been finding my dreams frustrating is because often I’m trying to do one thing but I can’t because I’m running into obstacles and wake up before I get to do the thing. This probably has more to do with the current state of my psyche than magick but I’m honestly not sure what’s the thing I’m supposed to be trying to do or what obstacles I’m having to face… much to think about.
land spirits do not have to be dramatic.
sometimes reverence for land starts very simply:
learning the names of local plants. noticing where water gathers. thanking a tree before taking from it. picking up trash. leaving a place better than you found it. sitting quietly long enough to feel the mood of the land.
animism is not always spectacle.
sometimes it is relationship, attention, and care.
My garden is flourishing 🪴
I predictably had a stressful dream and I don’t remember much but I do remember it had to do with my dad. Since he has had cancer surgery recently, this concerned me. Of course he is going to his follow-up hospital appointments but thought I’d consult my deck as well.
Is my dad in imminent danger? - Inverted III of Cups
What can I do to help? - Inverted Emperor
Inverted 3 of cups means social disharmony, and there is a lot of family drama going on right now. It might be taking more toll on him than I’d imagined. But if that’s the most imminent threat, I’m rather relieved.
Inverted Emperor is interesting because The Emperor is kind of a paternal figure, and it’s upside down. There’s a role reversal going on where I’m telling my dad to do the responsible things. Also it’s telling me that harder boundaries (something that’s difficult for my dad) is what he needs, and he might need a little bit of tough love, but at the same time, rigid structure is not something that works well for either of us, so I need to create an environment where he can naturally embrace healthier behaviours.
I consulted my tarot deck about déjà rēvé. (Also skimmed a study about it, and although it was mostly about "inducing" it using electrical brain stimulation on epilepsy patients so not applicable to me but still had some interesting information.)
I decided to pull three cards about these three questions:
Do I experience déjà rēvé?
If so, why? Is this a sign?
How can I explore this more?
And the cards were: 1-Inverted Empress, 2-X of Pentacles, 3-Inverted VIII of Pentacles
Upside down Empress could signify insecurity (and to be fair, it's insecure of me to be asking whether my experience is real to begin with) but I think this means that my déjà rēvé is currently stifled. I take potent sleeping pills daily to suppress/forget dreams because my dreams were often really anxiety-inducing. But this ability is part of the legacy of my lineage, something I inherited from my ancestors. And exploring this would require diligence and hard work.
My psychiatrist has suggested that maybe I no longer need to be taking that much sleep meds but I've been avoiding changing the meds because I'm afraid of the stressful dreams, but it's safe for me to lower the dosage or stop taking them, so I think I will try that. I will spend some time trying to connect with my ancestral spirits and praying and setting intentions every night before going to sleep. And the reason I'm reliant on meds for sleep is partly lack of physical activity and sun exposure, so I'll work on that to see if I can get my normalize circadian rhythm naturally. And I'll start writing down my dreams in my witchcraft notebook.
It's also noteworthy that all The Empress and the Suit of Pentacles are all Earth cards.
I'm new to tarot so if you have any insight or advice to offer, please let me know!
Hey chat have you ever experienced Déjà rêvé? If so, how do you interpret it and what does it mean for you spiritually?
Déjà rêvé (French for "already dreamed") is the distinct sensation that a current waking experience happened to you in a dream.
Have you ever experienced this?
yes
no
I experience this a lot but I didn't know there was a separate word for dreams distinct from deja vu!
The situations I experience this about are usually very mundane, but I have wondered if this is a form of clairvoyance and whether I should try and hone it more.
My dreams are usually very strange or stressful if I remember them at all, but every once in a while I'll have a pretty normal dream and remember it too, and later that exact situation plays out and I'm like, oh my gods I had this dream. And not in a way like I dream about brushing my teeth and then I brush my teeth, situations that are a little too specific and while not outside of the norm still unexpected enough to chalk it up to coincidence or just dreams reflecting my life.
And sometimes I'll have a dream about going to a certain place that I don't really go to, but otherwise it's pretty mundane like taking the train there and walking somewhere. When I wake up I think huh weird why would I ever go there, and then not really think about it because it was just a dream and it wasn't even that weird. Then later some reason comes up for me to have to go there and it looks like what I saw in my dreams and I'm like. how??? I don't know this place enough to have a geographically accurate dream?
The vague sense of deja vu is often dismissed as a natural neurological phenomenon, but I really think that this is different.
My practice isn't big on trying to predict the future and so far I didn't get any prescient knowledge that's particularly useful, but I'd like to explore this further. Thank you for teaching me a new word, now I know it's not just me!
Y’all I’m being so serious when I say this: go to the library for witchcraft reasons.
You can usually find books on witchcraft, yes, but there’s also field guides on local foraging and wildlife, cookbooks, books that teach you how to craft and DIY, books about environmental protection and stewardship, books on how to use herbs medicinally, books about other religions, cultures, and spiritual practices. My favorite local library even has a seed swapping program and fantastic resources to research your own family history!
Go to the library for witchcraft. Please. :) <3
Don't uncritically take correspondences from blog posts and whatnot, especially if it doesn't say why or where it's from.
In wuxing, Earth is associated with wet weather, but Aristotle related Earth with dry quality. (And also pretty much everything else about the elemental systems are entirely different) The differences could just be philosophical but they often also reflect the tangible differences between different places like soil composition and climate.
Correspondences don't have to come from other sources to be valid, especially when the validity of said source is also questionable.
My ancestors believed pine trees are sacred and associated them with strength, integrity, consistency and longevity because they're evergreen and live for hundreds of years, enduring droughts and barren grounds.
A lot of "X brings good fortune/bad luck" originate from "once upon a time someone did X and then they gained/lost something"
The symbolic meanings often come from observed qualities or mythological stories, based on real events or entirely fictional. And mythologies change over time and sometimes even real conditions change and spiritual understandings and practices can adapt. Your own observations and experiences are important to you too. You can give things your own meaning.
And as an eclectic practitioner I learn from different disciplines and incorporate certain parts into my own practice, but I do believe that practices based on the ecosystem of where you live, beliefs passed down throughout generations in your community, things your ancestors believed in and practiced, are likely more pertinent to you.
made my first harvest of coriander and made cilantro infused water and wow it's so z e s t y
I'm also going to try smoke cleansing with them and see how that goes
