Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Boy with a Dog, 1655-60

The young Murillo first made his name with small genre scenes from the life of simple urban folk and homeless children, painted at a time when a plague was raging in his native Seville. His works are always full of natural realism, free of ideological content. By the end of the 1640s, after he had traveled to Madrid and become acquainted with the painting of Velázquez and Venetian artists, his use of chiaroscuro grew finer and his compositions acquired a more stylised and sentimental character. source

Noël-Nicolas Coypel, The Abduction of Europa, 1727

Shortly after the public exhibition with this painting was opened, Pierre Cozat wrote to Rosalba Carriera, that Coypel presented a magnificent painting that will surely get the first prize. It is still considered one of the greatest examples of rococco art. Currently, it is in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Jean Baptiste Isabey, Zofia z Czartoryskich ordynatowa Stanisławowa Zamoyska (1778-1837) "Le coup de vent", 1803

This miniature portrait of Zofia Czartoryska was painted, according to the tradition, on the ship, during a trip to England. Title "Le coup de vent" could also be connected with Zofias pregnancy with son Władysław. The motif of the gust of wind was often used in portraits of women bearing a child.

Painting depicts very interesting and complex  relationship between the observer and the observed. Observer - the woman in a black dress, while observing the stage using opera glasses (what if she is looking at the other man or woman?), becomes observed herself by the man in the back lodge. It is an interesting full circle story, which we, a viewers, are also observing. 

Artist quite visibly smooths over the details, even the room is only suggested. That way we can focus our attention on the woman in the foregorund.
