February 20, 1934: A statue of Balto, the Siberian husky who in 1925 led a dogsled team carrying a diphtheria antitoxin serum to Nome, Alaska, to stop a deadly outbreak of the disease, in Central Park. The brilliantly-lighted skyline of upper Fifth Avenue is in the background.
