we need another public reunion! Dan was not at Michelle’s wedding last year. I wonder if they are still friends. I’m pretty sure both he and Michelle were at Allen Leech’s wedding in California several years ago.

so wish they would star together again in a series or movie!

I treasure those few minutes , the first time Mary sees Matthew at the concert. Her longing for him is so evident, yet she steels herself to calmness, to the point where it is Lavinia who sounds nervous and floundering. I always wonder how much Lavinia knew of their previous relationship. And the tone on Matthew’s voice as he answers “what else would she hear from me”. It is like a warm blanket.

How are MM spending the day? In my headcanon:

season 1 - Matthew has sent Mary an anonymous valentine. She suspects it is from him because it is very book smart and not at all country sport like :). At dinner the following weekend Matthew is nervous that he has been found out when Mary makes directed comments to him. He does not admit to it.

season 2 - In the war years Mary writes a valentine card to Matthew in 1915 and 1916, where she expresses her undying love, she hides them, unsent.

season 3 - engaged Mary and Matthew - Matthew sends Mary an openly flirtatious valentine, constantly referring to all sorts of things. She gives his a valentine that refers to Andomeda and Perseus.

Feb 2018 - Matthew has downtime in the trenches. His mind wanders, he knows he should not but he thinks of Mary as he holds her dog. He thinks back to their romance, the cards he wrote and sent anonymously over the years. He starts to write to Mary, he lets all his unexpressed feelings flow onto the paper: both his anger and his love. He gets interrupted by William, who delivers the letter from Mary telling him of her engagement to Richard. He takes the letter to Mary and burns it.

Feb 2019 - Mary sends Matthew an anonymous valentine. (Matthew is now re-engaged to Lavinia). She expresses her admiration for him and her happiness at his recovery. She holds back on her feelings and she slips it under his door.

I love his face here. Did he actually not notice until now how much Mary is in love with him! Everyone else did including Richard! I adore this scene!
