This article in the Bangor Daily News does an amazing job describing what happened in Central Maine (both inland and near the coast) in the late ’70s and how the Back to the Land movement has changed the entire state. I became friends with many of the children who grew up in this culture, and their lives and experiences have had a profound impact on me. If you do anything today, please read this article and watch the footage. It is amazing.

A tribute to the painful joys of skinning

I didn't know that The Clymb was doing these kind of things, but I appreciate it. After all, the grey lady can't be the only one doing snowfall pieces.

I was just chatting with a newer ski partner about how I often end up doing hellish math problems and the like on the skin track. That wasn't the case yesterday, however, as the skin track was hellish enough on its own that it was all we could do to get up, and I'm still picking twigs out of my underpants. There might be a treatise on the skin track here later, so keep yer eyes on this space!

Also, why are most of the pictures here about the down and not the up?
