Why does life come easier to those live it how ever they want? How does life grow lemons on trees hidden from the sun? Does life ever wonder if it is the only one? Should life be told to grow old till it is none? Why does living feel as if life itself is on the run? When did smiles and laughter turn into life's twisted fun?

There's something so sad about life's silent loudness when nothing seems to be of use or purpose anymore. That meaningless feeling of sitting quietly with your head against the bus window, watching the colours fuzz by while your earphones play that one song heard too many times. It's almost as if you're waiting for something or someone, but you don't quite know what or who. And why does it matter? If all you're going to do is wake up and repeat the same boring steps, following this age old tutorial of what life should be. And even in this, your mind plays selective mutism where when asked "how are you?", the word "not" disappears and all you blubber is "I'm okay, you?". Are you? See winter comes and goes but the cold lingers far too long, sometimes waiting for summer becomes a drag. And it comes back as small ice cubes in your cold drink. It's always there, you just look over it. By the time the journey is up, another year begins and you repeat the same process. Sigh. The song gets old, but you can't pick another, can you?

Cold Nights

Genre: Angst

Pairing: You x Kyungsoo

Synopsis: It’s cruel how cold nights are the warmest.

The world always came to a standstill when you were with him. From that, never once did you feel you would run out of time.

People pass by, cats cross roads, stars collide and yet your world would pause at once. All because of a smile... his smile.

Kyungsoo peers at you from behind the curtains of his hair, a sly twinkle sits in the look of his eye. His warmth radiates close to yours, soft and inviting as always. That small chuckle tumbles from his heart shaped lips and you remember why you fell so hard so fast.

There is a cut on his lip. He picks up a napkin and taps the blood quickly. But you knew. You saw. “Let me ex-“

“You aren’t real.”

His lips freeze mid sentence, the words pause your own thoughts. He knew you saw. “What do you mean?” He asks with his eyebrows drawn together with an invisible string. That twinkle disappears and blankets itself with emptiness.

The cold air tickles your ankles, your dress a kite in the sky behind you. Kyungsoo waits in the silence of your stiff breaths, time fading with every quiet tick of the clock on your wrist.

But it was time. If not now, then when? Your hand gently releases his, both glancing down at your empty fingers. He raises his sight and searches for your eyes, staring deep enough to peek into your starless past.

A frantic sweat draws on his forehead. You know his eyes are screaming. Yet carefully, he reaches out, hand stretching across the small of your warm cheek, his ring leaving a cold trail in its wake.

“Stay.”

He wasn’t real. You watch the windows shatter, doors slam, people run, a tear slowly rolling down his cheek. Your dress taints it’s rose pink into a blood red. The world fell apart.

And you woke up.

It’s cruel how cold nights are the warmest.
