Resilience [Dictionary] s.f. 1 Ability of a material to absorb a shock without breaking. 2 In psychology, the ability of an individual to face and overcome a traumatic event or a period of difficulty. 3 In ecology, the speed with which a biotic community is able to restore its stability when subjected to perturbations. 2020: A year to be cancelled? I don't believe in this sentence. Instead, I see it as a year in which we have learned that we are not invincible, that a hug is as important as the air we breathe because it makes us feel loved, it makes us feel alive. We have learned to take some time and think about ourselves, or to think more about the elderly, to find new solutions to overcome difficult times. We understand that the earth goes on even without us, indeed, it is even better without our intrusive presence. We understood the true importance of our daily life and the nature of human relationships: emptiness without the company of those we love. I could go on for whole pages on why I wouldn't cancel this year. Now it is the time to look beyond, to find the strength within each of us to rebuild what has been lost. There is no time for regrets and sadness because life is joy and if you are reading this message and I am writing it, it means that the universe has given us one more chance to look to the future with renewed hopes and enthusiasm to build fortresses to be left to the weakest and to the lives who despite everything arrived in this particular year. I imagine this 2021 with these characteristics: resilience, hope, recollection with one's soul, improvement, empathy, openness to the unknown, courage, respect for others but above all for ourselves, love without asking for anything in return. Tonight, after hugging those around you, turn to the stars and ask for what you want most, not the impossible but what can really be achieved to make you happy.
