Monique Norfus-Bio
Monique Norfus is the Community Outreach Director for Reading Works a backbone organization for Adult literacy serving the metropolitan area of Detroit, MI. Her primary focus is creating, implementing, managing, and supporting outreach and content projects aimed at increasing Adult literacy. Norfus is the primary contact for literacy agencies wishing to explore the possibility of becoming a leading Michigan Adult literacy partner. Her duties include overseeing Reading Works participation in various community-based projects and serve literacy partners with best practice methods. She works with teams to develop communication strategies that help mitigate issues and ultimately advocate for specific projects and goals. Norfus works individually and in conjunction with literacy partners to support strategic plans and development. Her lean processing methods help build relationships and achieve Reading Works objectives. Norfus is charged with representing literacy partners in the development of making a breakthrough in Adult literacy that will guide the community and the partners in growth and awareness. In essence, she is an ambassador for local literacy agencies and its interests throughout the master-planning process.
A native of Elyria, Ohio, Norfus has two decades of experience working in both the public and private sectors. Her skill set is driven by serving culturally and ethnically diverse populations. She is committed to Adult literacy and has more than 20 years of experience with non-profit organizations. Norfus expertise includes working directly with the community to build relationships and ascertain literacy issues and concerns. She has served on teams that have gained numerous governmental approvals to create many outstanding academic programs and accreditations.
Prior to coming to Reading Works, Norfus held leadership positions with several local companies and was involved in executing service excellence programs and lead strategic planning. She is a University of Toledo Alumni who has worked with non-profit organizations since 1993 and served as Dean of Health and Human Sciences for Baker College in 2005. 

When discussing the issue of Adult Literacy, Monique Norfus stresses that each learner has a story, listen and you will discover a wealth of knowledge. Norfus interest in Reading Works mission; vision and values towards Adult literacy attracted her to the position. Shared decision-making and involving the voice of the learners are among her top priorities, along with fostering literacy partners engagement, improving the learner experience, and developing new literacy agencies.
