As a Kuraneon shipper and a shipper of non-canon ships, I am totally at peace that they have a low to zero possibility of being canon. Shipping is just a fun activity for me and to create content, have that creative relaxation for shits and giggles.

The exception for this is CoAi from Detective Conan. It was my first ship, shipping that pairing is so painful because you can really see their chemistry and all the things they had gone through together in canon. But because the writer prefers childhood love stories (it seems), it can never be canon. And this year, there's a lot of CoAi content, especially this year's 2023 movie and even that Uniqlo shirt. We all know it's just money but ahhhh seeing this beautiful ship have its spotlight again. This is that one pairing I really wished for it to be canon. Like, it could have been one of the best couples in shonen manga. A story about two people going through the same adversity, solving crimes together, and getting to know each other. I still remember how they progressed from the episode they had first met. Conan grew to trust her and saw a softer side of her, and Ai slowly tried to live her life again. They had a lot of moments together that was really romantic.

(In my opinion only), this pairing is much more interesting than the one we got. Yes, Ran is a very nice and sweet girl, I really like her as a person. But I think Gosho's mistake is having Ai (who is vital in the BO plot), take the secondary role and one-sided love. It would make more sense if the main love interest had a vital role in the plot, but instead, we got the opposite for this series.

Another factor is that since there are so many childhood love stories in the series, it makes the main pairing less unique because it's like a copy-paste of many other pairings in the series. Lastly, Ai is more interesting and layered character-wise, even more than Shinichi I believe. We see her grow in the series and her background story is really sad, yet she tries to overcome that. She has flaws that are directly related to her childhood, unlike Ran who seems to lack any flaws. Sometimes it's better to have a flawed character than someone perfect. It encourages character growth and this is why I always find myself being drawn to her, and wanting the best ending for her.

This is just my opinion only. It's okay if others don't share the same perspective, but these are just my thoughts.

i read @storkmuffin’s recent mingi post earlier this morning and it pretty much summarised my thoughts about mingi’s importance in ateez vocally but i’m going to elaborate anyway because i love good raplines and i ESPECIALLY love mingi

disclaimer: at least for me personally, i am really, REALLY bad at recognising people’s (singing) voices, and if i’m listening to a group, picking out each individual singer with any reliable accuracy is practically impossible for me. usually, rappers are way easier for me to distinguish - whenever i start to learn about a new kpop group even casually, telling apart their rapline vocally is usually the first thing i succeed at. i was able to pick out the rappers in bts before i even learned all their faces, and i have no trouble telling apart the guys in skz too. and even if i don’t know their names, i can usually guess how many rappers are on a song and who features when because of how distinctive they are.

+ because of the above, to me, good rappers are the very foundations and absolute backbone of a good kpop group. i say good rappers because not all kpop rappers probably should be rappers (please just let them sing. we don’t need a rap break in every song), but when you find a gem, they’re usually the undeniable core of their group’s musical sound. to bring up the one of the same examples i mentioned earlier, skz would not be skz without 3racha. not just from a production or songwriting perspective (though i’ve noticed that good rappers tend to do more of that than non-rappers in my limited sample pool), but in the sense that they musically carry a lot of the songs or turn them from good to great. and they can sing too! they’re not limited to rapping!

and at the risk of sounding biased, i think ateez’s rapline is my favourite yet. yeah, there are only two of them, but they’re 1) so strong individually, 2) so unique both from what i’ve heard outside of ateez and also when compared with one another, and 3) work SO well together that every time they’re back to back in a song it immediately contends for my favourite part of the entire song, like in emergency, or (in a simpler but imo no less effective or delightful) in my beloved pirate king:

and mingi!! even in addition to all this!! is another level of unique. i don’t think i have heard a voice quite like his EVER, never mind just within the kpop industry. and he’s so flexible too. a lot of people zero in on his more aggressive side vocally but he’s able to play with his voice to a degree that we don’t really hear from many rappers (or vocalists sometimes) - arriba comes to mind here for an example of his versatility. i think his arriba rap is genuinely one of my fav verses in any ateez song. it’s DELIGHTFUL. his voice is so profoundly distinctive that whereas with most raplines it takes me less time to learn to distinguish their voices, with mingi (and by extension hongjoong, because he never sounds like mingi), it took me NO time. i knew who was rapping from the outset even if i didn’t know his name yet. and i knew that i liked him.

i think the thing for me about mingi’s voice is that it’s so delightfully husky and rough and raw in a way that the other guys’ aren’t. i think that’s why he’s able to pull off the expressiveness and emotion @storkmuffin mentioned e.g. in man on fire to a degree that the other guys couldn’t quite. there’s a polishedness or smoothness or snappiness to the other guys’ voices that makes them vocally very powerful, but when it comes to pinning down a specific, unfiltered feeling, that’s where mingi comes out on top. the same goes in youth imo, and also in tunnel (which, btw, changed my life the first time i heard it) - mingi’s voice is perfect for emotion. sadness, desperation, anger - he convinces you it’s real, because he just sounds so damn genuine about it, even without me understanding a single word he’s saying.

this is Ateez breaking into the Android Guardian's bunker to steal back the Cromer

we see Yeosang with a blue butterfly

-> we can later see similar ones surrounding Wooyoung in the Answer MV

-> my very much unconfirmed theory is that these might be used as communication devices since they’re blue and shimmery and we know stolen voices look like blue bleads

we see a drone flying through the sewer system, potentially built by Yeosang

a scan of Yeosang, Hongjoong and Yunho leads to a system error which could be just an editing choice to make it look cool or it's the system detecting that Ateez isn't registered since they're from another dimension

after Jongho "explodes", we see a flash of the Cromer and a butterfly before Hala!HJ appears in a glass case, much like the one Yeosang will be trapped in in Say My Name

this is a reference to Ateez's encounter with the Black Pirates in the bunker which we’ll cover in the Fever Part 3 Diary Version entries

they manage to get the Cromer and make it outside where Yeosang should've been exchanged for the Cromer after the Android Guardians captured him (see: Fever Part 3 Diary Version once again)

during this attempted exchange, Yeosang snatches the Cromer out of the air before the Guardian could get it, turns it once and smashes it to pieces

we see two hands at the end, reaching for each other - Hongjoong's on the right and Yeosang's on the left before a bright light engulfs them

@ziseviolet has the ultimate compilation of general hanfu information.

@fouryearsofshades educational hanfu content, like analyzing hanfu trends and their historical precedents.

@hanfu-asks tutorials and specific information about sewing hanfu. They seem to be on semi-hiatus.

@guzhuangheaven posts about period dramas and sometimes talks about their costumes.

@hanfugallery photo sets of hanfu from all eras and sometimes explanations as well.

@fuckyeahchinesefashion Chinese fashion from all eras and also period costumes.

@taishou-kun Japanese fashion, art and film 19th century onward. I love that they have a lot of modernist art that is very rare to see and often neglected in favor of the more conventional geisha stuff.
