all throughout the land of asgard, there was one king so notoriously famous amongst his concubines and peasantry families, his nation had divided underneath him; some wishing to see his power live on forever while others eagerly waited for the day his blood was to be spilled and freedom granted upon them.
of all the citizens captured by his frightfulness and dictatorship, there lies a group amongst them. this group, fighters of freedom if you will, had a goal they’d do anything to reach—put an end to the power of the lee’s. the king was too powerful and too guarded for him to be successfully assassinated, so they deemed it best fit to end his line of power. they must kill the heir to the throne, prince lee taeyong.
after months of planning their attack on the handsome heir, their movement started now.
a young man, who went by the name of y/n, stood in a tavern eyeing his prey and getting into character. he cleared his throat, straightened his collar, and stepped toward the prince. however, his steps froze when his throat was faced with blades, two guards aiming their swords at him, “what do you think you’re doing?”
he held back a smirk, glad to know the plan was starting smoothly. he held his hands up in surrender, ignoring the curious gaze of the very gentleman who’d required this type of protection. a look of faux shock covered his face, his body throwing in a little tremble of nervousness, “please, i just left a bag of coins on the counter. i wanted to retrieve them before someone took them.”
the guard sneered at him, perhaps enthralled by a sense of superiority at his career position, “and you think the prince would touch your filthy coins?”
y/n showed a look of disdain, certainly not willing to hold back his true feelings on the matter, “i must disagree. i would not even trust that the prince would need the coins i worked hard for, for he has grown up with everything he’s ever needed and wanted. but mustn’t you know, any person of my poorness would spare not an ounce of shame for those few extra coppers. i’d be but a fool to realize i’ve left my coins and still carry on with my day, no?”
the prince listened to his words, eyebrows peaking in interest at the man’s way of speech. perhaps, was he a poet? a writer?
when y/n had finished speaking, body left in a state of heavy breathing and eyes only showing an angered glare, he stood up from the stool, the bag of aforementioned coins in hand.
“now now, let us simply hand the man his money and let him go on with his time. it’d be a shame to let his time go to waste all because of me.” everyone around them just stared, amazed at the prince’s elegance and beauty. how could one possibly be so… so elegant?
there wasn’t the smallest of slip-ups or mispronunciation in his words as he spoke; his voice rich like honey and as smooth-streaming as water between two hand-shaved stones. a radiant and shimmering glow surrounded the prince in the dim light of the dark tavern, and y/n almost felt ashamed to agree with those around him that this man was the most extraordinary one he’d ever seen from so close.
but he knew his task at hand, knew what he was supposed to do and what he couldn’t do—he couldn’t lose focus. when he lost focus, who knows what could go down? everything could be destroyed!
so y/n merely bowed his head, grasping his coins and leaving the tavern with a settling hope of accomplishment.
and as he stepped out, a smirk settled upon his lips when he’d heard the silk-like voice of the prince, his tone laced with amusement, “myeongpyo?”
“yes, my prince?”
“find out who that man is... he certainly seems like quite the character, don’t you think?”
being obscure about his bewilderment, the guard only bows his head, wondering just what the prince wanted with such a lowly being.
the guard watched y/n as he stumbled forward, himself hiding behind corners to keep hidden from the drunk man’s view. his attempts would have proven fruitful, had y/n not already suspected someone to be on his tail.
the young man knew why he was being followed; it was of course in the likes of the prince. so in a moment of urgency, he decided not to meet up with and endanger those he was working with. if the prince wanted to spy on him, he had no choice but to play innocent.
he made a turn, coming into the entrance of the local marketplace. his nose flared out of reflex at the aromas wafting through the air, dozens of spices mixing—a silent battle between the vendors trying to sell their produce.
making his way alongside the carts, coin bag tossing up and down in his hand, he mindlessly juggled the different options around in his mind, trying to decide what to buy. albeit, he was going to settle for something that wouldn’t require all of his coins because, in truth, he didn’t need anything—it was all for the getaway. so he settled for some golden potatoes—only 1 copper for 3!
once he left the market, leading his follower away from the hideout, he made his way to his own little home where he resided by himself. for him to enter the home was yet another card on hand; a part of the plan he’d devised with his freedom fighters:
“y/n, i’ve set up an arrangement with a trusted friend just outside of the capital. you will be staying with him, but if anyone follows you, go to your home. that will let us know we need to steer clear from you for a while.”
y/n knew that once he entered his home, he couldn’t leave until the next day—around these parts, any useless movement made so late at night created an act of suspicion. myeongpyo knew that.
and y/n was readied with the fact the man following him wouldn’t leave his spot until he made that move. if there’s anything y/n knew before starting this mission:
it was that the prince was a stubborn man.
"my prince, i am here to report to you." myeongpyo spoke, his whole being facing the young prince in a position of utmost respect.
the king peaked an eyebrow at his words, "my son, what must this be regarding?"
the prince looked at him with an unclear gaze, eyes feigning a proper innocence, "oh nothing, I just asked him to find a specific plant i wanted." his father gave a suspicious gaze and taeyong knew he must have been thinking of the gardener they had at hand.
"i did not ask ms. kwon for i feared she'd be overwhelmed with the preparing of mother's event and all."
a rich scoff left his father's throat, "that is what she's being paid for, is it not? don't trouble a mighty knight for something as measly as flora."
the prince bowed his head, hands folded in front of him.
"off you go now. do not forget to tend to those duties i have reminded you of."
"of course, father."
the king watched his son walk away, the knight in tow. his squinted eyes lasered into the prince's back, something was going on under his nose—at the hands of his own seed moreover—and he was not fond of that.
some time had passed; enough for a new season to bloom, the withered plants birthing a new life. the young prince walked along the edge of the empty road, guards standing at his side. "how do you suppose he is, myeongpyo?"
the knight bowed his head, "he has been quiet all along, doesn't quite fit anywhere amongst the trenches of evil, perhaps."
"quiet, you say?" the prince side-eyed myeongpyo, "he hasn't caught on to you, has he?"
and the guard almost looked insulted, a hearty scoff threatening to leave his lips. surely the prince had gone a bit far as to doubt his stealth as a royal knight! "my prince, please forgive me for my words, but—"
"if they are words you wish to be forgiven for, i presume it better to recast or not say it at all, no?"
myeongpyo looked at the prince, and the heir could instantly see that myeongpyo was holding back his tongue, the vein near his jaw pinching in resistance. with a jaded look, he turned his head, letting out a hum. "boring."
“are you sure it’s safe to be here?” sconsin, an elder of the group spoke in worrisome to y/n, back hunched as he looked around in caution.
y/n set his glass down and sighed in content as the liquor slid down his throat, “indeed. the prince sure is relentless once you have caught his eye, i suppose. i have been followed for the majority, if not most, of this past season,” he rose a brow, glancing at the guard that tried to blend in with those in the pub, “so straighten your back, my dear friend, i have not caused an ounce of suspicion for i would not have freedom this fluid.”
“you sure have a way with words, youngin.”
y/n let out a hearty laugh at the elder’s bewitched gaze, shaking his head. “my words only appear so to those who want to find meaning in them, sin.”
“well, sunny, the meaning i’m looking for is another glass of brew. how about it?”
both men met eyes, playful smiles overcoming their features as y/n mockingly bowed, “with pleasure, sire.”
the king paced about in his quarters, his wife sitting at her vanity and listening to his pestering about their son. “taeyong, he’s up to something.”
“darling, he is but a boy. the hidden wonders of the world have caught up to him, it was inevitable.”
a scoff sounded in the room, the king stopping in his place and turning to the queen in a fit of absurdness, “the wonders of this world are nothing more than a menace to his being. he has no time for such… such fatuity when he has something much more secure ahead of him. those wonders will only seduce our downfall.”
the queen, unfazed by his difficulty, only turned away, no longer wanting to speak of it. she knew she could not deter his final decision; when the time came for her to make her own, she’d speak up then and only then. not of obligation but choice, of course.
“for now, i shall speak nothing of it,” she finished brushing through her hair, leaving the room, and heading toward the kitchen. when she entered the room, pots and pans rattling in their awakened clamoring of dishes, all heads turned to her, and bows were vehemently bestowed upon her grace. “good afternoon, i trust you all received the update on the supper menu for tonight’s gathering?” a plethora of ‘yes’s were heard and the queen smiled, “may you all do as you’ve done and make the best of the best!” she cheered them on.
while the king was a figure that was notorious and senseless, his wife was completely the opposite. nearly everyone fell for the grace’s character and hardly anyone told another anything negative of her. she was the woman everyone wanted to be around and have a steady relationship with, whether it be by romance or familial. rather, it was hard not to smile or laugh when she did so. she was a character of empathy and sympathy; a character who felt close, no matter how far.
y/n and his group unanimously thought that she would not be messed with, for she has not done any bad for all of her reign and life.
however, what was not premeditated was the fact that prince taeyong was the only thing she loved more than herself. surely if anything happened to him, her wrath be revealed with no hesitation, no?

“Did you guys see the email from Mr. Yang?” Seungmin asked, setting a bowl down on his desk. Steam was rising from the ceramic container, bamboo chopsticks sticking up from the noodles he’d prepared. The boy’s camera was tilted up towards the ceiling, giving you a clear view of the posters decorating the tilted roof, along with the blue-colored fairy lights.
“Yeah,” you groaned, fingers rubbing your temples. “Who the hell does that-”
“Yah, it’s not that bad,” Jeongin tried to reason.
“You’re just saying that because he’s your dad,” Felix sighed.
“That’s not true! It’s just a little project, it shouldn’t be that hard.” Jeongin pouted, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning back in his desk chair when you shook your head. You reread the email three times, making sure you’d seen everything correctly. Tilting your head back to stare at the ceiling in surprise, you thought about the line you’d just read.

“We can’t pick our partners,” you mumbled. You were surprised when heard the four boys each make a sound of exasperation, assuming your microphone wasn’t strong enough to pick up your voice.
