Really enjoying the PC release of MH Rise, all the wirebug traversal and rampage stuff has me asking the age old question: "What if Godzilla was in Monster Hunter?"

Low Rank has been the butt of the joke for every entry since Generations ran it into the ground, but there are times when I think back to 4U and how complete a package it all was. There was a Low Rank with chutzpah - and I miss it dearly.

I've been meaning to properly articulate my thoughts but whenever I say I'm disappointed by the post-release content for Wilds know that I'm not referring to the title updates; rather everything else in-between the title updates.
Every event quest prior to the Anniversary festival were exceptionally dull and repetitive in a way that ground my gears into dust, and that's not even mentioning the lack of meaningful crossovers like both 5th gen base games had. Sure there are quests for grinding out armor spheres or other utilities, but they're not all that fun or interesting - crown quests were few and far between - every festival ticket quest had to be farmed ad nauseam in order to get all the gear (I put 36 Blangonga into the ground before I could make all the Orion gear, for example).
It was just the worst feeling in the world to hit the point where a quest was just going through the motions because not only was it indistinguishable from a normal hunt but I had to do it at least 10 times. I really hope event quests stop sucking in Ascendance.
I knew there would be rough patches in the franchise with Ryozo stepping up and away but the Side Story stuff with Stories 3 definitely takes the cake from Wilds's awkward first year. I'm gobsmacked.
I'll admit it. I burned out on base Wilds.
It's the only base game MH I've EVER gone through and just naturally made it to HR 999; which is usually something I only do once I get deep into GR/MR. It's both a testament to the fun factor of the combat AND how tedious and time-sinky some of the overlapping progression systems are (even the simple stuff). I think flirting too much with GU design philosophy is a recipe for exasperation and it's made me think long and hard about supporting the base game releases from here on out.
Yay Ascendance!
It's rekindling joy! Grandpa's coming home!
Deez rex or whatever it's called.
Go my women.
Go, my women.
They dropped patch notes for whales, has anybody else read them?
Did you know that the humble Cockatrice is the direct descendant of Tyrannosaurus rex? It’s true! Pay no attention to how phylogenetic bracketing actually works.
That's a weird looking Magnamalo, I can't lie.
Gem dragon design updates I did for D&D The Book of Dragons last year. Prints of them available here
