This is the only known photo of the first trans woman to have her gender legally recognized in Switzerland.
In 1914, Adine T. sent a letter to her local police to grant her a pass to dress as she pleased. She petitioned that "I be granted permission to live as a woman, to wear female clothing and to pursue female occupations, and to be considered a woman before the world in all and every respect, since my emotional feelings are totally feminine and I feel unspeakably unhappy in male clothing."
Her gender was so clear that even the conservative Swiss government had to recognize it. Obtaining permission to live as a woman "is a matter of life and death for me," Adine added.
111 years ago, it was the first pass of its kind in her nation (although not the first in Europe). When interviewed, Adine described herself similarly to other trans lesbians in the 20th century: "a homosexual woman in a male body.” Source: Matthias Ruoss, "Arnold, Arnoldine, Adine."
Baby sphinx trying to be like mama and waylaying travelers, but all its riddles are completely non-sensical like the ones a 1st grader would tell
Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
Hell yeah moon holiday
Ooh coming up we should celebrate
PITCH: We call it Moon Day, and then every 7 years when it falls on a Monday, that's an even BIGGER deal and we call that Moon Day Monday and go absolutely apeshit about it (the next Moon Day Monday is in 2026 so we have a couple trial runs first)
MOON DAY MOON DAY MOON DAY
moon day is 20th July!!!
Scheduling this a day earlier to remind you all and myself about the Moon Day tomorow!
I scheduled this in 2025 to give you all a week to make Moon Day Monday preparations! I think I will order a little rocket cake or bake some moon phase cookies!

The long-lost remains of King Alfred the Great have been found buried under a car park, investigators claim.
Alfred died in 899, and his bones were repeatedly moved. He was buried in Winchester Cathedral until 1110, when his remains were moved to Winchester's Hyde Abbey, where they were interred before the high altar between the bodies of his wife and son. The abbey was demolished after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539, and the place was left in ruins. In 1866, during construction of a workhouse on the site, the English antiquarian John Mellor excavated the area, found what he thought were Alfred's bones and had them reburied at nearby St. Bartholemew’s Church. But in 2013, when archaeologists exhumed and carbon-dated the bones from St. Bartholomew’s churchyard, they proved to date from over 200 years after Alfred’s death - sparking Graham's interest and search. He said: "Whoever’s bones they were, they weren’t Alfred’s. So, I decided to discover what happened to them. "The quest has taken me 13 years.”
shut up they did not find another goddamn king under another goddamn car park
bea taught donut how to perform and be something larger than life and extravagant, and she carries that skill into the dungeon and it helps her to survive. but carl taught her it was ok to just be donut and simply Exist as who she is. carl was always her safe space, before the dungeon and during it. carl is the one she can take the mask off with and break down. she can be someone other than the dramatic, funny, powerful, diva warlord. she can be Just Donut. bea taught her how to perform, carl taught her it's ok to Not perform
Matt got his own Donut! But more specifically in this case: Daughter of Donut

idle thoughts about the upcoming-presumably-in-like-2+-years DCC show while in the bath -
like most ppl apparently, I am a bit Sad it is apparently going not be animated, though I am giving more graciously than some why this is because good animation is Really Expensive and Really Time Consuming, so okay, I get from a practical perspective why it's going to be live action
And I'm honestly not *that* worried about most of the creatures; like outside of the mobs that actually talk to Carl early on, I'm cool with most of the early mobs at least being primarily/entirely CG. Given the budget, that can be done pretty well now! Make a couple major ones people in awfully great rubber suits or something, you're good.
But my biggest concern and I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this way, is what they're going to do with *Donut*.
Because I really think the only way to do her properly has to be with a combination of CG, puppets, and the occasional actual cat (primarily in my mind before she eats the pet biscuit, *especially* before they go into the dungeon, you need a real cat for that). And the biggest problem in my mind is if they decide to go just CG, it's...going to be really hard to beleive she's *there*. Especially because of how often she is physically interacting with Carl, including things like him going 'oof!' when she jumps on to his shoulder, or when she's curled up around his neck when they're sleeping. They will *really* have to get someone who is a good *physical* actor who can make us believe a Chonk of a cat is on his shoulder talking his ear off, purring so hard it rattles his teeth etc, or it is going to be the thing that kills the show before they get to the third floor.
so I'm not saying Make Princess Donut A Muppet but...I'm also not-not saying that.
