It was honestly kind of shocking. “I guess it’s been over a month… Though, is that really enough time for people to heal and want to celebrate?”

Her eyebrows furrowed together. “First grandchild?” Montana’s gaze dropped to Cali’s stomach as her sister’s hand moved. “You’re pregnant?” Eyes widening slightly, the brunette shook her hand. “Oh my God. Uh, congratulations!”

‘ …  you  need  to  keep  your  voice  down ,  you  don’t  know  who  could  be  listening  . ’  gail  looked  around  trying  to  see  if  anyone  was  listening  to  her  conversation  but  thankfully  they  were  clear  .  she  handed  the  guy  a  small   baggie  and  waited  for  him  to  walk  away   .  she  jumped  as  someone  appeared  in  her  eyeline  as  she  turned  to  walk  away .  ‘  you  know  ,  you’d  think  of  all  the  people  in  all  the  places  in  the  world  ,  the  people  of  lakeview  would  know  not  to  sneak  up  on  people  .  ’

Montana looked up from her book as Gail spoke up. “Huh? Oh, I wasn’t sneaking. I was just...walking normally? Am I really that quiet?” Her head tilted to the side as she searched her mind. Maybe she did walk abnormally quiet. “Anyway, sorry if I scared you.”

“just give me two minutes please.” elizabeth held up a finger as someone approached her. she finished her phone call and turned around. “you okay? i’m really busy so you might want to come back unless this is quick.”

Montana bit her lip as her mother held up a finger to silence her. Really, she hadn’t even noticed that her mom was on the phone when she first started talking. Now she was left bouncing on her toes as she waited for things to finish. “Yeah, I’m great! Uh, I don’t remember what I was going to say though.”

“This can’t be right? Okay there’s no way this all happened in Lakeview.” Nat had been living in Lakeview for three years by this point but really hadn’t known a lot about the town’s history until everything had started to happen last month. “I’m not even just talking about the 50s, this place is insane.”

“Oh, it’s right.” Montana had read up on the old murders when she was younger. She preferred to think of others things, but with the recent events it was hard to just shove things under the table and pretend they didn’t exist. “Yeah, the history here is...something.”

California turned to Montana in their mother’s house. Why was Helen trying to have a freaking dinner party? There was no reason, considering that everyone, except maybe Montana, already knew her news. The killer had made sure of that. “Does she have to turn everything into a celebration?” She groaned, putting her phone down on the table.

Montana had her back to her sister at the moment, a bottle of red wine in hand as she poured it into a glass. “I gave up on asking why mom does what she does,” she laughed, turning toward her sister. “I don’t know what we’d be celebrating though. Seems kind of...insensitive given everything, doesn’t it?”

Delia had had a long day at work, nothing seemed to have gone right so she decided it was time for a drink at the bar and to get high. She took a couple of pills as she stood outside and walked in and ordered a vodka and soda. “I’m going to sit here because I don’t want to sit with creepy over there, feel free to ignore me.” She nodded towards the guy at the bar who was watching her.

Montana let out a soft noise of disgust before her eyes widened slightly. “Oh, not ugh to you. Ugh to that guy.” She flashed a sheepish smile. Her fingers tapped lightly against her glass. “He’s been creeping out most of the girls in here I think.”

juliette was anxious , just two weeks ago two of her former students had been murdered and how does anyone deal with that ? she considered going to the families of the deceased but felt it to be inappropriate so instead she set up a safe space in her classroom for anyone that just needed some time alone , a shoulder to cry on , someone to scream at , etc etc . she sat at her desk as someone walked into her classroom and she looked up with a smile . ‘ hey , it’s good to see you . ’

Juliette had always been one of Montana’s favorite teachers in school. Maybe it was because of her love for English and literature. Either way, Montana liked to stop in from time to time to catch up since she was no longer a student of hers. “How are you, Ms. Birch?” She greeted with a grin. “I brought you a coffee.”

“Tell your wife to call me!” Rose called behind themself as they left the police station, having spent the last few hours pestering some of the officers from a holding cell. Baby’s first almost-felony called for celebration! They were lame for not seeing that. Seeing that someone was watching the little spectacle unfold, they flashed the other a crooked grin. “Cops. No sense of humor. It’s a real shame, right?”

It had been an interesting scene to watch. Everyone seemed to be stressed out over the recent events but not the person leaving the police station. One eyebrow lifted as they addressed her. “I mean, they are dealing with a lot.”

ink stains and collisions | OPEN

ink stains. it was an occupational hazard but man did kassie always have ink stains somewhere on her. either clothing or actual skin. on this occasion it freckled her fingers and crawled up her right arm, fixated at her elbow… had she spilt some and put her elbow in it? surely she’d remember that. but it was also the proof of a job well done for her. so wrapped up in the session and creating the art that she’d not noticed her arm in ink. today’s session was just one of three, but it had gone great. outline done ( and it had been big. a back tattoo ). she lifted up her hands, admiring the speckle of ink as she walked along the sidewalk. not always a good idea when there was foot traffic out. but kassie didn’t always make good decisions. and when she fully collided with someone else, this was proved. kassie stumbled back a few steps, hitting a mailbox. although the impact with the metal object hadn’t been fun, it had stopped her from hitting the ground. she had to take a few moments for herself as the impact had knocked stars in her eyes. she blinked a few dozen times.

“fuck, sorry, shit, completely my fault i was in my own world,” she uttered aloud without knowing who she was speaking too and if they were still there. she took a few steps forward, rubbing her back and then her eyes. “are you hurt?” she asked.

Her nose was tucked in a book as she walked. Normally, she was better about keeping an eye on her surroundings but this was an exciting part! How was she meant to pay attention? Montana knew she could stop and find a seat somewhere, but she was eager to get back to her apartment so she could read in peace. She was caught by surprise when she collided with another body. “Oh my God!” She winced as Kassie collided with a mailbox. “I’m okay. Are you? I think you took a bit more damage than I did.”

pulling the stencil from the printer, riley made their way back to the bench montana was getting settled on. “you look like you’ve done this before.” riley offered as they settled down on the stool next to the table, soon getting everything set up. “this look about the right size?” they asked, holding it over the girl’s collarbone. 

“Oh, this is my third.” Now that her arms were free from the sweater, Montana held them out to show the lines of text adorning her skin. ‘Till this moment, I never knew myself’ was written in script on her left forearm while ‘most ardently’ was inked on her right wrist. Maybe one day she’d have a quote covering most of her body. “That looks perfect. Thank you.”

Raf blinked as light flooded through the store once again. “Thanks for that heart attack, Montana,” he said, half humour, half exasperation. He was just relieved it wasn’t a blown fuse or shredded wiring - he was already calculating how much of the budget he could allocate toward repairs. It wasn’t much. Second-hand books weren’t exactly a hot commodity these days, go figure. He raised an eyebrow at the books scattered around his employee. “Need a hand?”

“You’re welcome,” she grinned despite sensing his exasperation. Once the light was back on, Montana crouched to start picking up the books she dropped. “I’m supposed to be making it easier on you, not giving you extra work.” Nodding towards the door, she began making a stack. “Finish locking up. I can get this.”

“Because I was thinking that we could BINGE a tv show on the couch with popcorn?”   Georgia tells her honestly with a shrug of delicate shoulders.  “Like Greys Anatomy or something cheesy that has a lot of hookups that make you feel better about yourself.”   It helps that these relationships are fake as can be and not a real life friend crying on your couch at three in the morning because some guy was a dick and cheated on the other.

At the word binge, Montana was already nodding. “Absolutely. Can we get M&M’s too?” She wasn’t sure that Greys Anatomy would make her feel better about herself; sure she seemed to avoid most of the drama but her love life had always been pretty boring. “You know...I don’t think I’ve actually ever watched Greys. I’ve only seen the musical episode.”

A small amount of air came from Piper’s nostrils. It was almost a laugh… Almost. The thought of the other talking that fast… They could picture it. “It’d keep me from talking.” The words were automatic. Talking was never Piper’s strong suit, especially with everything going on. Listening to someone talk for hours would almost be a welcome change.

“Well if that’s what it takes to cheer you up a bit...you’ve convinced me.” Standing up, Montana went and ordered herself some ice cream, almost skipping on her way back to the table where Piper was sitting. “I might regret this later, but for now it’s a brilliant idea.”

“Oh,” Joanna’s fave softened and she did smile as she took in the bouquet that the young woman was holding. “They’re lovely Montana thank you. Come in properly, I’ll find something to put them in.”

A soft sigh of relief escaped her as the woman smiled. The last thing she wanted to do was intrude on the woman’s grieving process. Montana knew what it was like to lose someone important, and she didn’t want anyone to go through it alone. “I’m glad you like them...I wasn’t sure if you had favorites but...I just thought maybe they’d brighten your day a bit.”

Patrick chuckled as the girl apologized, a small smile on his lips. “Don’t worry, it’s alright. I was just – lost in my own thoughts.” A small groan left him at the information the brunette gave. “Shit. Again? This keeps happening.” He rolled his head back for a second as he took another puff off his cigarette. “You know what? Leave it, let it finish. I’ll fix the machine when it’s done. They’ll call me down for it either way.”  

“Are you sure?” Her gaze darted back towards the machine. Once she turned her attention back to Patrick, Montana’s head tilted to the side in curiosity. “Are you the repairman or something?” Now that she knew he had no intention of stopping the machine, she wasn’t too eager to go back inside to wait.

Sommer wasn’t one to judge. She ordered the younger woman a drink, not even caring if she was under 21. Only people under 21 still ordered vodka cranberries, or at least that’s the kind of shit she told herself. “What brings you here today?” A long day at the coffee shop brought Sommer in, it always did.

There weren’t many alcoholic drinks that Montana liked. The burn of those drinks wasn’t comforting to the brunette; she’d rather have the cooling sensation of water any day. Still, she was at a bar and she’d seen Coyote Ugly often enough to decide against ordering a water and nothing else. “Just not ready to go home yet. What about you?”

aurora had been at the front counter of chateau de chemise all day and she’s been through her fair share of karens ever since she had first started working here, but this woman was on a whole new level. she had wanted a refund because there had been a wine stain on the blouse that she had bought, but aurora knew well enough that that wasn’t there when she bought it and that she had put the stain on it herself. “we can change it for you if you want, but i can assure you that that stain wasn’t there when it was first in our store.” she reassured the woman as she continued to argue in european hand movements. “can you please move though? you’re holding up the line. i’ll get to you in a minute, i promise.” she replied, wanting to get out of there as quickly as possible, ‘karen’ continuing to yell at her as she walked back over to the counter to help others. “sorry it took us so long to get to you, it’s been a day. what can i help you with?” she asked with her usual forced smile.

“I can see that,” Montana grinned as she glanced over at the woman who still was ranting about a stained shirt. Turning her attention back towards the girl working the counter, Montana shrugged lightly as she ran her hand through her hair. “Um, well I was hoping to get some help finding a new shirt but I’m honestly horrible at picking out clothes. If you’re busy though, I can just browse.”
