Imagine if you're like, the kid of these farmers in medieval times or smth and you get the chance for an (better) education and you go into a bigger city for it. Then when you come back home after some time to visit your family and stuff, you hear one of your old farmer friends spreading a complete misinformation. When you try to correct yhem bcs y'know, you literally got an education and you know somewhat more on the topic than them, and y'know what they do? Everyone starts bashing you for it and call you names and talk shit abt u. Ofc you're upset and then you go back to the big city and you don't rlly come to visit home, and you end up being known around there as an arsehole who doesn't know how to shut up and tries to shove "information from the big city" "to show off to their old comrades who you now see as inferior" for another solid few decades or so.
What are your thoughts on Minato and Fugaku as father figures and how fandom perceives them both?
HOHOHO don’t even get me started on this.
So I’m going to use characterisations in fanfictions to help my argument. I’ve read a lot of Naruto fanfiction, almost all of the popular fics on ao3 and I’ve seen a trend.
I’ve noticed that Fugaku is turned into the DEVIL in so much fanfiction, where he’s callous, unnecessarily cruel towards Sasuke and Itachi. I believe this is done to victimise Itachi more and make it seem like killing the Uchihas was “the only way.” Fugaku isn’t this incredibly evil, cold man. He’s stern, expects the best from his sons because he’s from a prideful clan but also because of the amount of shit their clan was going through. The Uchihas were being marginalised by the village. Fugaku HAD to have a tough exterior as the leader of the coup. Not to mention that they’re shinobi??? He isn’t going to coddle his kids if they’re gonna be murderers for hire. While I acknowledge him not paying attention to Sasuke was wrong and that the way he tried to get Itachi to help the coup could have been seen as too much stress and responsibility placed on a 13 year old, the man was doing all he could to save their clan from a tragic fate. And he failed. If anything, Fugaku is more of a victim. The village ordered his son to kill him, his wife and the entire clan. Sasuke should have had more attention from Fugaku but as I said they were planning a coup. I believe that Fugaku and Sasuke could have had an ever stronger relationship if Fugaku wasn’t killed. It’s just very sad omg.
Minato is this perfect, lovely father who always tends to Naruto’s needs in fanfiction despite the fact that he was a Hokage and sacrificed Naruto’s childhood for the village. He is a Hokage first and foremost. He will sacrifice what he needs to. I think this comes from the narratives need to label every konoha shinobi as good unless they’re clear villains and scapegoats (danzo lol)
What I find comical is that Fugaku was willing to overthrow the village leaders for his sons’ safety whereas Minato was willing to sacrifice himself and his son for the village yet one is evil incarnate and the other is the pinnacle of fatherhood. The truth is, neither were perfect fathers. Circumstance doesn’t allow them to be. I think Fugaku doesn’t deserve the amount of hate that he gets as a father and that Minato is grossly mistaken for a good father.
AMEN TO THIS
Kakashi: *Is somewhere in trouble*
Automatically Gai:
Asmodeus: I’ve come to take you to Edom, son.
Magnus: Let me ask Alexander.
Asmodeus: What?
Magnus: He says no.
Valentine: Sometimes, I feel like I failed as your father.
Jace, Clary, and Jonathan in unison: SOMETIMES?!
I don't know anymore 😭
“I am NOT sleepy.”
“Okay.”
“I’m in ANBU now. I can stay awake for three days straight, with no rest!”
“I see.”
“I’m just… closing my eyes. For a minute!”
“Alright.”
Does anyone else have a grumpy teenage kid who’s convinced they can hold the world up on those scrawny shoulders, or is it just Minato.
