This sick bleach shirt I made. Something to showcase my undying love for prehistoric cave art.
Some of the bleach burned thru the shirt bc this was my first time bleaching anything ever, but it kinda adds to it.

my most radical anti-sexist belief, only strengthened by the transandrophobia discourse, is that patriarchy is uniquely oppressive to all men. yes. androphobia, separate from transandrophobia, is real.
that’s not to say that they don’t also benefit the most from conforming to patriarchy. many things can be true at once. it IS to say that men are oppressed by the expectations patriarchy places upon them, which ARE enforced.
patriarchy systematically grooms men into becoming oppressive patriarchs, and that grooming is violent and oppressive. it starts in childhood and often involves covert incest because that is one of the most effective tools under patriarchy’s belt for the enforcement of both gender roles. but that’s a whole different post. anyways.
if you care about boys and men and people who have been treated like one you will notice that they have been traumatized by being forced into that role. even and especially the ones who embrace it the most. they feel lost and lonely because they were heavily coerced into denying their own feelings + parts of their identity, and now they don’t know how to fix it. they lash out at women because they believe women forced them into this oppressive role. really, patriarchy is something we all perpetuate and enforce.
feminists who want men to be less angry + mean but also never let the men in their lives express themselves otherwise + expect them to be a doormat for women as payback for patriarchal oppression are hypocritical patriarchy-enforcing sexists.
it’s true that mras and men crying about “male loneliness” are misguided dickheads about it. but the pain they feel from being men is real, and I don’t think it should go unaddressed.
I think we can build stronger, more inclusive movements and anti-oppressive ideology by listening to EVERYONE’s pain. I believe we can find shared cause in fighting the structures which traumatize us, as long as we care about other people’s pain and trauma. even the pain and trauma of the people who have oppressed us.
I came to these conclusions by considering the pain and oppression faced by all of the men who have traumatized me. by figuring out WHY they did the things they did to me. by relating my own pain to theirs so I can understand. and I still won’t ever forgive them. but I sincerely hope that one day, they will heal and know love. I hope all men do.
there is a lot of art made by men which touches on this! I love Peter Pan and Wendy because this is its main theme. Pan + Hook’s conflict is between a boy who explicitly rejects his social role as a patriarch (while still playing at one + expecting the benefits of it) and a man who explicitly embraces that role (while still playing like a child + yearning for the love + freedom of boyhood which was taken from him). they are foils to each other. the story is ultimately patriarchal propaganda, but it is also intentionally very revealing of patriarchy and its flaws.

Find a humanitarian organization near you and volunteer with them. Do it. I mean it. Even like one day a week. Even an HOUR a week. This shit will change you in the best ways. Your circle will fill with cool people. THE HELPERS-- FIND THEM and then BE THEM
Being in close contact with people who give a shit and are also witnessing the descent of our country into fascism and ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT is actually mad refreshing in contrast to the pointless noise that is the internet.
You'll make such fast friends if you:
show up
say "where do you need me"
do what they say
have a good attitude
Done. Easy. Volunteering is awesome and will put you right in the lap of the best people in your area. They're the helpers, they're the people Mr. Rogers told you about!
Doing an easy task like potting trees for a community garden or helping at a food bank will also connect you to people who are doing more, like immigrant support or things that tackle more urgent, dangerous issues going on. So you can scale up your involvement easily by just showing up repeatedly.
Or don't scale it up-- maybe you stop at helping at the food bank and you're stacking cans for a few hours. You're feeding your neighbors. That's a load-bearing part of any revolution. (I use that word optimistically.) The people you meet will be the people you lean on when shit gets worse.
AND VICE VERSA, prove that you are someone to lean ON by showing up and helping. Offer things to people. Your skills may be helpful. Already, just because we've done local volunteering, we have made at least 5 or 6 new friends, got a potential firewood connection, and WELL-PAID EMPLOYMENT (??? OMG)
(and free lunches and snacks and fruit trees) And it's healing as fuck to have people genuinely tell you, in the flesh, to your face, "I'm so glad you showed up today. I appreciate you so much. This would have been harder without you." That shit makes you feel AWESOME and REAL and PURPOSEFUL
(We woke up early for a shift at the food bank, I'm hyping myself up because I am not a morning person LMAO) But yeah volunteering is such a good way to build security and community. There's something for everyone to help with, just get out there and show up, first.
Started volunteering 3 hours a week at a queer community center and it has helped boost my morale so much. There’s something magical about needing a safe space and then becoming apart of that safe space. Helping others really does help/heal you.
my body doesn’t have the right instructions for making collagen bc I have EDS. so it makes the collagen slightly wrong with a slightly different structure, meaning all of my soft tissue is extra stretchy. and that creates weakness + instability in my joints so I can’t hold myself up without it being painful.
this causes me digestive issues, because my whole gut moves slower than normal, generally does weird stuff, and has a harder time digesting properly.
the protein gluten is especially hard to digest. HOWEVER.. gluten from spelt (which is an older variety of wheat) has a slightly different structure to it which makes it easier to digest. so I have replaced wheat flour with spelt flour in my diet for the benefit of my funny tummy.
spelt ALSO makes the dough especially stretchy. one large issue I have had with 100% spelt dough is that it just spreads into a puddle because of the stretchiness. it can’t hold structure as well as regular wheat gluten.
the spelt and I are friends bc we r alike in our stretchiness :)
