simplify your shower routine. i know everyone talks about the "everything shower" and all but nobody does that every day so don't feel pressured to invest in a crazy amount of products. self-care does not mean more is more, self-care is the love that you put into yourself and the things you do. buy what you need, one at a time, and streamline your routine. take out everything before you shower and have it ready for when you come out. take your time doing whatever skincare, lotion, etc. really massage your body. you don't have to rush. it will relax you and help you enjoy your products more! sometimes, having a complicated routine makes showering feel more like a chore than self-care. set specific, separate days for washing hair, shaving, exfoliating, etc. bonus tip: floss before you shower and brush in the shower to make it easier.
do a stretching routine. specifically stretching, doesn't have to be yoga or pilates or anything. i highly recommend this video, since it targets muscles that tend to be tight in people who are sedentary/don't get enough activity. 1-2 times a day will do wonders and helps a lot to relax before you sleep + allows for some mindfulness time.
stretch/massage tense muscles. on the topic of stretching, make sure to target any muscles with knots such as trapezius and rhomboid muscles, neck, etc. not only does it help any tension (especially if you have anxiety), massaging your neck and shoulders will make you sleepy!
prepare your space properly. fluff your pillow(s). arrange your sheets/blankets/comforter how you like. adjust the lighting or no lighting. control the temperature. wear comfortable clothes. make sure everything is to your liking because little things like that will affect your sleep.
choose media wisely. i recommend at least sleeping without your phone. if you tend to watch video before bed, use a laptop or ipad if you have one instead of your phone. if you must fall asleep to something, i'll give you three options. 1) a long-form video with soft music or ambient sounds (2+ hours or up to 12 hours if you want) or 2) an asmr video (40+ min) or 3) for those who like a tv show, a 24/7 livestream of a certain show or a full episode compilation (these are popular on youtube) played at a low volume. whatever you choose, make sure it's something long that you don't have to touch. no fiddling around trying to find another video because that's going to keep you from sleeping. just let it play. if you choose a video over a livestream, make sure your device is set to turn off after a certain amount of time so the screen doesn't stay on after you've fallen asleep. youtube recommendations: asmr pommo, runa asmr, latte asmr, dr gabriele does asmr, muffled rain sounds, kingdom hearts destiny islands ambience, kingdom hearts sora's bedroom ambience, sleep/bath time music, mickey and friends girls' night in lofi (10 hrs), kingdom hearts traverse town lofi (10 hrs), indoora world - the cottage library, strawberry patch asmr
stay hydrated and don't go to bed hungry. you might not realize it, but being dehydrated can and will affect your sleep, so make sure you are hydrated throughout the day (don't drink a bunch of water right before bed) and eat dinner/dessert/snack/whatever a couple hours before you sleep, or whenever makes you feel comfortable.
