New animatic idea: Domina and Vendetta in "Little Miss Perfect".

Seems kinda fitting now that Domina's new short story confirmed she's pretty much just a self-conscious poser. Even her callsign is compensating for her. Vendetta in a lot of ways in what Domina inspires to be. So of course my logical conclusion is Domina having a big gay crush that she feels she can't allow herself to entertain the idea of.

Idea: Freja and Emre animatic to “Nothing Left to Lose”. Emre shocked and disappointed that OW’s best SAR operative has resorted to hunting down her friends for a check. Freja insists she chooses the thrill of the hunt and riches versus clinging to ideals that did nothing for her.

I’m aware this is a nitpick and Blizzard says they want to have conventionally attractive heroes from now on but I feel like Emre should look older than he’s depicted in Search and Destroy. But also I guess idk how old he’s supposed to be.

We’ve got this photo as a visual reference and how this is before everyone else that’s older started to gray. We know he was a private in the military and recruited after the omnic war, which was 2 years. So he’s at minimum 20 here and was 18 when the omnic crises started.

We have canon ages for certain characters when the crisis started. Ashe is stated in her story to have been 13 and she’s currently 41, so what makes Emre at minimum 46. The omnic war is stated to have started 28 years before current events, which tracks with Freja and Pharah being the same age since Pharah is stated to have been 6. They’re both 34, which supports Emre being at least 46. I’d assume maybe a little older for him to have stood out enough for Overwatch to recruit him.

The characters who are closest to this (who have hair) are Sojourn and Moira. Sojourn’s completely gray while Moira has gray streaks. I’m discounting any other signs of aging because Sojourn is mostly cybernetics and Moira’s experimenting with life and atrophy on herself.

This is just me complaining about Emre not having salt and pepper hair or being a silver fox and I will be disappointed if there isn’t an excuse of the Conspiracy doing some medical enhancement stuff.

At MINIMUM it's Freja as a 18/19 year old when recruited to Overwatch by Ana, and therefore Emre as a 25/26 year old when they met in overwatch as search and rescue then??? Or if they met later, Freja could have been like 20/21 and Emre as 27/28. And that's at MINIMUM, Emre might have been older than 20 in this picture. I mean, I doubt Emre is 18 here, he looks older than Mercy who is confirmed 17, and therefore Cassidy is 17 too. 20 makes semse like op points out.

Why the fuck are they writing romance between like a 7+ year at minimum age gap, it's probably like a 9+ year age gap. The writing makes it out like Freja might be romantically attached to Emre. This is so gross. No wonder he was mortified when he Mom said what she said to Freja. What tf are the overwatch writers doing. :/

I was thinking about this while I was doing the mental math but a few corrections for the age and timeline: Freja’s degree in criminology was probably at least an undergrad so she would’ve been around 22 when recruited. I’m still using Pharah and Ashe’s confirmed ages at the time of the omnic crisis as a reference and disregarding the Cassidy/Mercy statement because I’m fairly sure it was a dev statement and those are absolute dogwater and give us problems like 28 year old Freja.

This is to say Emre is at least 12 years older than Freja because he would’ve had to been at least 18 for voluntary enlistment in the Turkish military at the start of the omnic crisis. So he would’ve been at least 34 when Freja joined Overwatch.

I personally don’t find age gaps as a whole problematic, it’s the ages when the people meet is what I find sus. Like it’s strange that Freja is fresh out of collage and just starting her career, compared to Emre, who’s already at around 14 years in to working at OW. This context of age gap that intersects with being her work-superior makes the romance implications really ick for me. Like what do you mean this man she takes orders from invited her to meet his parents, with no other guests? And if he wasn’t the the one that initiated it, it’s still inappropriate for him to agree.

But the thing is, is that I’d be willing to accept a lot of his behavior if the narrative didn’t so explicitly push the romantic implications. Like I was genuinely confused when people pointed at panel with Emre’s hand on Freja’s shoulder and told her she did a good job and claimed it looked romantic. I was thinking “of course she’s smiling, she’s a young operative being praised by a respected senior officer and founder of her workplace”. Also “people are only saying it’s romantic because he’s a man and she’s a woman”. But the reinforcement is retroactively making Emre look like a creep.

Going forward I sincerely hope the writers don’t seriously follow up on the romance implications, as they don’t with other characters. Like, the can say they were besties, give Emre the personality of vanilla ice cream, woobify him, I don’t care. Just don’t acknowledge this again.
