Another go at the design for Shaf and things got a lot more solidified!

Dude when you think you’re done, you definitely aren’t; I love that piece of advice when I heard it from Lavendertowne and rewatching her videos, it’s just motivated me to be better with concept work and more patient. So yeah, none of these designs are considered final, but def getting closer! I think the barn owl elements are shining a LOOOOT more. The simplification is doing much better I feel. I also love doing less exaggerated eye sizes, I just think I’m not a big fan of super big eyes on faces personally so I’m creating more stylization in the expressions instead. The soft and sharp are way more balanced and… you get the point! I love her! >:D

I feel like sometimes I really let the whole “sharing” process affect my “creating” process where I get stressed that I’m not updating y’all about enough progress. I start rushing things, finishing things I’m not satisfied with, and ignoring what made working on a story so fun for me. Everyday I’m working on it and trying to be better again, I think this was major improvement! Letting myself make design after design after design and slowly poke away at things makes me feel like a creator again. I’m thinking of Character Design instead of What-Looks-Good-Nowadays Design. I’m exercising my brain and feeling fulfilled again. Always always always gonna recommend Lavendertowne to any type of creator out there! I basically grew up on her videos, watching them since the 6th grade. Now I’m almost done with college and I’m still watching and rewatching and remembering why I love the process of storytelling, no matter how tedious and grueling it can get!

Another thing I wanna show are these smaller sketches which I’m gonna use to test out a new coloring method! It also doubles as concept art and testing out how well I can draw this design, but mainly I wanted to try seeing if I can slightly alter the color palette to get different moods and really get that Technicolor feel. I love how in older movies, color was almost treated like another character. Creative lighting and shading led to amazing results in visual mood and storytelling, and I think it’s becoming a lost art nowadays. I’d love to see if I can bring it back into my own art, especially the style that’s supposed to be inspired by those movies I admire so much.

I really get a nice cool summer breeze whenever there’s an update. You’re wonderful!

These poses are really dang strong, they really are. Each pose is really giving a burst of life to Shaf herself as you’re trying to figure her out more. Challenging but how fun is it looking!!!

Shaf’s design is also looking super fly, like I never would imagine her looking so adorable but fierce based on the first drafts but gosh I love her. A true gem of an artist, one who can try over and over on the things they love—a true critic with good intentions I see~

This was so lovely and yeah ever since you recommended to me Lavendertowne, I couldn’t stop watching AND winning with her advice. She’s also a good ol’ gem in the art mine despite her style being so STYLIZED—but that’s the charm of it, she knows what she’s doing.

Like that, you, dear Shaf, also know what you’re doing with your craft. You really do

Heigh-Ho-Hello folks! I finally got done with my final presentation for the summer so I’ve been relaxing with art afterwords and felt like sharing some progress. A random Bluemoon idea because I’m crazy (I’ll show the reference pic once this drawing’s actually done), Chapter 14…👀, and I’M REDOING SALENA’S REF TEEHEE💥 I’ve been meaning to redo the reference sheets since I have this big beautiful tablet now, my art’s been improving again, and a lot of designs are just more solid in my head now. I think Salena looks a lot spunkier and well-proportioned. They also have their moles and gap teeth :D I’m super giddy to finish my gal and then move on to other designs. Probs gonna redo the boys next and do Mikey for the first time (whoops) or maybe I’ll get distracted with Zane and Jaiden. I had some new design stuff planned for Jaiden anyways so I’m looking forward to redoing arc one’s ref of them.

I know this is a “relatable” post but I want to ask a question, why do people wanna be rich even if they hate capitalism and consumerism?

Being rich only gets you closer to those things, making you even more of a target to these things. The only ones who are able to follow trends are the rich, the ones who buy and consume trends for a week and throw their things to the nearest GoodWill after it’s over. What are you gonna spend that money on? Just another materialistic trinket?

That’s not gonna make me respect you as a person if that’s why you want to be rich. Ask you’re doing with that money is spending it, you can’t be scarce about it either because why would you? You’re rich! So it’s easier to indulge in shitty things rather than making a difference in the world or “taking down capitalism”.

I politely am telling people to consider the fact that this mindset isn’t helping anyone at all in this cruel world where we’re led to believe that money is everything.

To bring this hypothetical because I think about it a lot, many people will think about getting rich to “help the poor” with their money which I agree on helping community, however, I have an argument with that thought (as someone who thought this too), so hear me out:

Money is tearing people’s lives, the higher ups made the value for money THAT high for people to be put in situations where risking it all for crumb of it OR even people that already rich wanting more out of pure disgusting greed.

We’re a society that is co-dependent with money.

What’s so great about money anyways? You’re rich but then you can easily lose it all in a blink of an eye. Shouldn’t there be value in better things other than money to make us happy?

I believe helping the poor isn’t money, you can’t just throw it at them and expect them to actually survive the real works with what? 40 bucks? That’s barely anything to live off of.

It’s more valuable to help people with food, shelter, a helping hand, socializing, giving a hug, or even just lending an ear to listen to others. We want a warm and stable community we can rely on, not a lifeless life of money that’s bound to be taken from us someday.

It’s changed my mind on money, to prioritize on other things like love and community, hell my own wellbeing. Money won’t give me anything better than a hug from my family when it’s the morning, or when I made a cup of coffee with my sister. Money’s worthless, the value is an illusion stripping us away from things we SHOULD care about.

You can have everything you want with that load of cash but it’ll be gone by the time you finally figure out you’re not above human with all that money. That’s what the system banks off of, being rich is fine for a bit but it’ll only last for just a while until you become one of them.

Listen, you can’t have your cake and eat it too, you’re against capitalism or not. Wishing to have an easy life isn’t gonna benefit anyone but yourself. I personally don’t ever want to be rich because I know it’ll corrupt me into being another cannibal in the files, slowly but surely you will of you’re that rich.

Overall, I’m just saying that you’re gonna be trapped if you’re rich. That lifestyle will consume you even if you keep telling yourself you’re not like those “other billionaires”. There’s no reason to hold so much money.

If you want to tear down both capitalism and consumerism, stop following the trend, stop making money the end all be all. Make it worthless to society, then those two will shake their boots off while we focus on community values while they burn.

Man I gotta say this has been one of the most fulfilling summers of my life! My research internship’s having their final presentation next Wednesday, and I’m continuing the project afterwards for at least the next year (possibly next two years). I’m almost done with Arc One of MFIP and will probably be done before the fall semester starts. SitP got a shit ton of development done with cleaning up the story, and I’ve gotten a good groove into how I wanna tackle all the new things I’ve learned for it. Hell, I started learning how to fucking BOX! That’s right, we’re Salena-Moni-ing fitness✨✨

I’ve been doing so much more and going outside so many more days compared to my usual summers and I’m honestly beyond happy! It feels like I’m living a life.

If I’ve learned anything this summer, screw the grind culture. I’ve done so much in such a healthier way. I’ve been so kind to my body. I feel rested and stimulated, not overworked and bored. I’m nervous for college starting up again, but I’m determined to try approaching it better this time.

Yes, you can have your own stances and we have rights to our own stances. You’re not gonna be in trouble (knock on wood) for you being up for human rights, but what WILL be troublesome is if you even dare try to keep hidden about criminal actions through social media—or even make intense edgy jokes online that borderline that behavior for causing harm outside of the internet.

Even if you think data is deleted or private, it’s not.

I saw in a Stephanie Soo video about a predator that worked as a teacher, but she was grooming minors through Snapchat. We all have digital footprint, so if you’re hypothetically falsely accused for murder, do you know what they will do?

The court will be allowed to subpoena your search history and online access to the internet so they’ll see your footprint and can use it as evidence against you then convict you for that murder. Remember too, they could cherry-pick from your online posts to paint you more horrible, even if it was a “joke” they won’t care

This doesn’t mean that you should stand up for what’s right, but it means to not be stupid on the internet. Your words on the internet do matter in both good and bad ways, you should always be careful with what you say no matter what. Especially with what’s going on around the world, be smart with how you are on the internet.

If you think you deleted something permanently, there’s always a way to track it back down

I’m def very new to comics, but this page is such an improvement! I never would’ve been able to fit—three, four, five—NINE PANELS!? NINE PANELS IN ONE PAGE! THAT’S ME, THAT WAS ME! My highest was five just two years ago holy shit!

I think about this a lot, because what stopped me from progressing in writing (and even quitting for a bit) was the specific NEED to write something trendy or mainstream so that OTHER PEOPLE will read your work

If someone wants to read a particular story with specific characters with a trendy plot with this chapter and that chapter and this that blah blah blah! Yk what they should do?

It doesn’t matter if it’s good or not according to someone else, that’s YOUR creation and YOU should be proud of it just because you made it and did your best to give it your all. I started enjoying writing again because I’ve been 1) taking my time, and 2) not worried about what other people think of my story and writing.

This story is for ME and if some people like it, that’s awesome sauce! If some don’t, that’s fine too, just don’t make it my problem; be mature and just don’t read my story. I don’t care if I didn’t do what YOU wanted to do, I’m not gonna cater towards someone from out of nowhere that’s telling me my story’s no good. It’s intentional for it to be this way and if you don’t understand it, no worries, but don’t make it into a situation where you tell me I’m wrong for writing my story that way. Write your own if you care soooooo much.

With this breath of fresh air, I’ve been motivated to keep going and keep writing. New ideas come all the time! I’m able to discover things about myself that I haven’t before (especially because I’m at an emotional stage in my life) and that’s what I want to write about. I’m free to make my own decisions with writing and I don’t give two flying fucks if it meets the trends.

This is my opinion, if the mainstream loves it, it’s not good. “We can make any trope and/or scenario work. We just need to know how to execute it, that’s where the story really makes or breaks” —My Sister, Shaf.

I feel that anything can work but the mainstream falls flat whenever they DO show a trope on the big screen because they never actually CARE about the story, they only care about views or the trend. Fuck the mainstream/trends, I don’t care to meet that standard because it’s beneath my storytelling abilities in the first place, I’m not afraid to say that.

I’m not gonna try and make my story fit in if it doesn’t make me happy, I’ll write my story and feel good doing so! It doesn’t matter if it’s considered garbage, I’m happy and who’s gonna raise their brow when I’m showing that I’m proud of my work. People on the internet are way too hard on themselves when it comes to creative work, fanfiction exists for a reason, come on!

I’ve been working away on an MFIP illustration that I can’t spoil at the moment, and then switched gears to do some more concept art and sketches for SitP. So uh, ✨behold✨

Really happy with this one! I was focusing a lot more on character concept designs but I got SUUUPER bored of the same thing, so I thought I’d practice more comic panel layouts instead. I showed before but I got Steve and Shaf’s designs pretty decently thought out (although not finalized) so they’re kinda the perfect duo to explore more while sharpening my comic skills.

I’m so new to comics dude but I’m so proud of myself for this composition! It’s hard to fit illustrations and text and I underestimated how wide this panel needed to be at first- Hence why I’m only practicing individual panels now to get a better intuition for them, then I get to move on to page layouts! One step at a time peeps :>
