A 700-year-old medieval religious manuscript which was feared lost has been acquired by the National Library of Scotland.

The whereabouts of this “extremely rare” 14th Century book had been unknown for about 300 years until it was recently auctioned in Vienna.

Many similar manuscripts exist only as fragments but the library said the Sweetheart Breviary was in “remarkably good condition”.
