He wasn’t fast enough. That was what Bakugou thought when he saw the burning building. That nerd said he’d be out in time but among all the heroes, there was only one empty spot.
“I’m sure he’s fine, man.” Kirishima said, placing a firm hand on the loud blonde’s shoulder. That hand was quickly shaken off and Bakugou’s hands began trembling. The seconds just kept ticking by. Precious time that Deku could be dying.
“Fucking hell..” Bakugou hissed and began sprinting back towards the building.
He couldn’t lose him. No, he wouldn’t lose him.
“Oi! Deku! Say something you damned nerd!!” He shouted as he entered the burning building. All that answered was the popping of burning wood. “Where the hell are you?!”
Then suddenly a black matter wrapped itself around Bakugou’s wrist and began tugging him forward.
Bakugou quickly recognized it as Deku’s black whip and ran towards it, a surge of hope entering his chest. Black whip responded to his urgency and pulled him with more force, sometimes moving debris out of his path so he could get there quicker.
“Deku, I’m coming!” Bakugou shouted. He could feel the smoke finally having an effect on his lungs and his breaths now hurt. “Damn it.. faster..”
Black whip suddenly stopped and retreated back to a point. Bakugou stumbled towards it and gasped.
A relaxed, bloodied, gloved hand was sticking out from underneath a burning rubble.
Bakugou got to work immediately, ripping off the debris and causing small explosions when it wouldn’t budge.
Not fast enough not fast enough not fast enough not-
He dug even faster, desperate to get his childhood friend out of there. His lungs burned and his hands bled but he didn’t stop; he didn’t even slow down.
When he had cleared enough away, he grabbed Deku’s hand and his stomach flipped when it was slack.
Don’t be dead. Please for the love of god don’t be dead.
He tugged and tugged until something snapped and Deku collapsed onto Bakugou. He didn’t even have time to catch his breath before the ceiling above them began to crack and cave in.
“Shit-!” Bakugou yelled, grabbing the unconscious boy in his arms and dodging the falling roof. “Fuck!”
He couldn’t find the entrance. He was trapped. Not good.
“Now would be a good time to wake up Deku.” He wheezed. The smoke was taking a toll on him. He could hardly see and it felt like he was burning himself alive.
A wall. Find a wall. An outside wall.
The coldness of the outside world blasted towards him and he took a deep breath before looking down. It was at least four maybe five stories high. He could make it. He had to. Deku’s life depended on it.
He could hear first responders shouting at him to stay where he was but he wasn’t listening. His mind was only concerned with the inferno descending upon him.
Suddenly Deku began coughing violently and Bakugou flinched. He placed an arm around the boy and held him to his chest.
“Ka..” Deku whispered. He hardly even had a voice anymore.
“Shh, you’re gonna be okay. Hold onto me okay? Like this.” Bakugou guided the greenettes hands around his waist. “Don’t you dare think of letting go. I’ll kill you.”
Bakugou took a deep breath before calculating when to jump and when to cause an explosion.
If he failed, it could be terribly fatal.
“Hey nerd.” He said in Deku’s ear. “If we make it through this, you owe me big time.”
Before Deku could even think to respond, the blonde jumped.
Falling, falling, falling, falling. Too fast. This is bad. Now? Too soon.
A perfectly timed explosion to soften the landing.
It still hurt, but they weren’t dead.
They were both gasping for air and clinging to each other on the cold ground. They were still close to the building but the first responders were already rushing towards them.
“Kacchan.. Thank you.” Deku breathed as he laid on Bakugou. “You saved..” Heavy breaths.
“Deku.” Bakugou grabbed his shoulders and shook him. “Fucking hell, Deku! Now is not the time to sleep- god damnit!”
Even though his body screamed at him, he stood up and carried the boy in his arms. He needed the help. He needed.. he needed medical attention.
“Oi! You fucking doctors get over-nngh-!” He fell to one knee, his vision spinning. “F-fucking hell...”
His vision was blacking but the medical team was close. He could reach out and touch them.
“De..ku...” He wheezed. “Help.. him.”
“We got you.” A comforting voice said and Deku was taken from him. Not a moment later, his body failed him and connected to the ground.
It was fine. It was fine because Deku was safe. He’d be okay.
(Took me forever to write this but here we are. Enjoy lol.)
