I've never been more sure that a character is gay than I am of Melinda Desmond. Woman who reads tarot and indulges in occult practices in the 60s? Comphet lesbian right there.

Melinda is my mentally ill queen because while the series does play in on the comedy aspect of her randomly saying that her husband is an alien it never once treats her as completely “delusional” or “insane”. Shes just a woman under extreme stress and experiencing delusions because of it.

honestly from the very start, and idk why, Melinda felt very “mentally ill in a non palatable way” type deal?? Like, she struggles with paranoia about her husband and intrusive thoughts about her son and wanting him to die like she’s mentally ill. And I love that the story doesn’t shy away from that. While loid should definitely NOT be a therapist I’m glad her mental health is treated seriously

On top of this, she seems to be AWARE that she's mentally ill too. Melinda shows a lot of signs of bipolar disorder. I personally feel like she's had symptoms long before Donovan changed, but him changing was the cherry on top and sent her completely over the edge
