James watched from his seat on the sofa in the common room as Lily scolded a third-year student. He wasn't even sure what the student had done, but she looked so fiercely beautiful, her red hair bouncing with every stern word. James sighed dreamily, his heart swelling as he noticed the slight furrow of her brows and the way her skin flushed to match her fiery hair.
"You know, she could kill me and I'd thank her," he murmured to Sirius, who was sitting next to him on the sofa. His voice filled with adoration and his gaze never wavering from Lily.
Sirius, who had heard the same refrain for the past six years, groaned loudly and rolled his eyes, though James didn't notice. "Honestly?" he grumbled. "I'd thank her too."

The Queer Utopia of the Marauders Fandom | Video Essay
Hello, so I wanted to come on and say that if anyone is new to the marauders fandom and is feeling extremely overwhelmed by all the details, relationships, character arcs, fancasts, etc and it’s just all over the place really...but most of all I’ve had people come to me asking how this specific era has such a huge community behind it, is so popular to the point that people claim to love of harry potter’s dad and his gay friends more than the chosen one himself (the one who got like 8 blockbuster films and 7 books? yeah that one). I think this video is a great place to start.
All creds to jubil3e on Youtube who posted this simple, easy to follow video essay explaining the whole upcoming of the marauders era, and the process in which fans started to fill in the gaps to characters who were only mentioned in 1 sentence or less...it’s truly incredible and the gift that keeps on giving.
I intend on giving as many resources as possible to new fans or to any marauders fans that might be feeling like the fandom is way ahead of them (don’t worry, I totally get you and we’ve all been there before).
So the best place for resources would be tiktok honestly, the platform that started it all (alone with ao3 and tumblr). People have made slideshows and powerpoint presentations you can download, lots of shorter explanation videos that are talking about more specific areas (unlike the video above which is more like the general picture) I’ll link some very helpful sites in my next blog with credits to all the incredible creators of course.
Sirius finds out after the Prank. He sits miserably through Dumbledore’s stern warnings and Snape’s spitting rage and the only thought running through his mind is Remus, transforming alone for the first time in forever, without his friends to stop him from turning those claws upon himself. When Sirius finally makes his way down to the Shack it is daybreak and James and Peter are there, glaring at him in disgust but Sirius only has eyes for Remus and he nearly weeps when he sees those cuts and wounds that he as good as inflicted running over Remus’ deathly white skin. He refuses to go to class that day and sits instead by Remus’ bedside, willing Remus to wake and yet terrified of seeing accusation and hatred in those amber eyes. Sirius knows he will never forgive himself, even if Remus does. He wonders why his heart is breaking when it is Remus whom he has hurt.
James finds out over the holidays. Sirius turns up at his house unexpectedly, looking thoroughly disheveled and murmuring something about being disowned. The Potters welcome him, of course. James is ecstatic at having his best friend around, but realizes after a few days that Sirius is unusually moody despite James planning all kinds of activities and mischief and basically trying his best to make Sirius feel at home and Sirius trying his best to respond with enthusiasm. James wonders if leaving his family hit Sirius harder than he lets on, but Sirius is so clearly glad to have seen the last of the House of Black forever that James starts thinking of other possibilities.
He finally manages to get it out of Sirius one night, when he mentions Lily and how much he misses her and Sirius seems to understand, really understand, and he guilt-trips Sirius into confiding in him. James then invites Remus over for the holidays and Sirius regains his usual exuberance and James is really glad to have old Sirius back and pretends to look the other way when Sirius and Remus furtively kiss.
Peter finds out when he finds himself unexpectedly lonely during seventh year. James’ time is divided between his Head Boy duties, Quidditch practices and courting Lily; Remus is more often than not holed up in the library, being the only one foolhardy enough to continue History of Magic at NEWT level; and Sirius manages to disappear with absolutely no explanations. Peter sits in the common room bored out of his mind, resenting the girls who normally clamour to be the ones sitting the closest to the Marauders but scarcely pay him a second glance upon seeing him alone, and resenting his exclusion from the realms of Quidditch, girls and knowledge that his friends are so at home in. He idly taps on the Marauders’ Map, thinking that Marauding is perhaps not as fun as the sole Marauder, but a movement catches his eye and makes him peer at the Map more intensely.
Unlike his friends, Peter does not need the Cloak to spy or to remain unseen, and Peter the rat is soon scurrying down a deserted corridor. Hardly anyone would be headed to the library on such a fine day, save Remus, Peter, and as the map has so clearly proven, Sirius. He is wondering what mischief Sirius is up to and thinking that he can always study with Remus as a back-up plan when he sees something that makes him stop dead in his tracks. Sirius’ hand is cupping Remus’ jaw and Remus’ arms are around Sirius and they are undeniably, indisputably kissing. As Peter watches Remus pulls away and mutters something about having to finish the essay, but Sirius bends down for another more insistent kiss.
Peter does not know what to think. He is shocked, and feels somewhat betrayed that his friends did not tell him, when he sees now that James obviously knew from all those snide comments (“Really, I don’t even need the Map to know where you’re going” etc.). He is also jealous, as he suddenly realizes with astounding clarity that while James has Lily and Sirius so obviously has Remus, he, Peter, is alone. When they graduate from Hogwarts, there will be no more Marauders, only marriages, and houses, and careers, and JamesLily and SiriusRemus, and no one will have time for Peter. To his friends, he, Peter, will always be second place.
(Apologies for not writing Remus, I tried but I don’t do him justice at all, please forgive my Sirius case of Favourite Character Syndrome :P)
I discovered this absolutely brilliant essay (http://elwing-alcyone.livejournal.com/11152.html), more than a decade after it had been written, posted when I still had no idea who Harry Potter was, let alone Wolfstar. Firstly, I would like to thank the author for leaving it there for future generations of fans to find, it’s amazing to read something from a time when the series had not yet been completed, when nothing was set in stone and everything was open to speculation and interpretation, when I was still a naïve child apt to take everything at face value. That’s something that I really value about the blogging culture of the past (long opinion posts) and something that I don’t really appreciate about Tumblr – I think it tends to encourage photo reblogs and other more short term forms of fan activity, which is more transient and falls off radars after a while, whereas something like this essay is still being stumbled upon and read by fans like myself a full eleven years after it was written (almost as long as Remus and Sirius were parted, if I may add :P)
I think that this pretty much sums up everything I have to say about their love being canon. I also want to emphasize the disparity between Remus’ treatment of Sirius and Peter; that is the most compelling argument in favour of Wolfstar being canon, in my humble opinion. When Sirius, Remus and Peter reunite, there are several plausible reasons why Peter should be alive – to escape from Sirius’ wrath and thus be awarded the Order of Merlin posthumously (because being blown up by a mass murderer while trying to stop him is way more heroic than running away from him), for instance. Yet Remus embraces Sirius before that is cleared up, right after Peter is revealed to be alive yet before any explanations are provided – as Elwing puts it, it almost seems as though he has a vested interest in believing Sirius is innocent. That reaction, which strikes me as grasping at any straw that Sirius might be innocent, even at the expense of Peter, is startling considering that this is a man the wizarding world believes murdered two of Remus’ best friends in cold blood, that Remus had ample reason to hate and time to learn to hate. This is completely removed from his attitude towards Peter, who as one of the Marauders should be as close as Sirius is to Remus (if they were just friends), if not closer since James and Sirius are the ones consistently characterized as inseparable, leaving Remus and Peter to gravitate towards each other, but it is Sirius that Remus believes innocent, and it is Sirius that Remus obviously cares for more. I can’t bring myself to believe that no one cared about Peter; I genuinely want to believe that Peter was a vital part of the Marauders, and not just the tag-along that he is often portrayed to be. If this was the case and considering Remus hardly gives Peter a chance to explain himself (killing Peter on sight is in line with Sirius’ characterization, but not Remus’) while seeming almost desperate to convince himself that Sirius is innocent, and taking into account Remus’ usual objectivity and the fact that he had 12 years to cultivate charitable thoughts towards Peter and convince himself that Sirius was a murderer (dispelled in an instant, you realize), that’s very compelling evidence that they did share a special bond. You wouldn’t be so eager to condemn one of your old friends unless you cared for the person who stood to gain from it exceptionally deeply.
I really couldn't have said it better myself. This essay deserves way more notes. I wish that long opinion posts/rants/analysis were still common in blogging culture today because they are just so fun to read, and it's amazing to have your eyes opened to something that was implied that another fan might have caught instead. Thankfully, I had read that essay while it was still up (unfortunately, the full journal has been deleted and thus sealing off any chance that future fans or fans today can ever read it.)
Yes I definitely believe that something happened between them. I want to say I'm not biased, but I am and they're basically my comfort ship. Even if J.K. Rowling (the one who REALLY should not be named) did not intended for them to have a non-platonic relationship in canon. The atmosphere and details that were executed about these two is just too much of an implication for them to never have a history.
I absolutely love what the marauders fandom has become and the incredible spotlight and story that was given to wolfstar (a story that continues to be added on today with so many wonderful interpretations).
