i was reading goblet of fire last night and came across this:

right in his moment of despiration, when he found himself wishing for his parents back, who did harry think of? sirius. when he needed parental guidance, who did harry think of? sirius. when harry needed literally anything, you know who he thought of every time? sirius. he decided he couldn’t talk to hermione, he couldn’t talk to ron: but he could bloody well talk to his godfather and fathers best friend, sirius orion black.

all sirius wanted was to grow old with his moony and be uncle padfoot to harry and his beloved friends james and lily potter. and sirius got the bare minimum of that, he got to be a wanted godfather in hiding, helping harry from afar. but can you imagine how much that must’ve meant to him, to james and lily? that no matter what’s going on, harry turns to sirius and sirius helps him in a heart beat.

that is one of the most precious things in the book to me, it’s that even from afar sirius got to be a part of harrys life in a way he never thought possible, he got to be the one he turned to when he needed it. he got to be his godfather.
