Every time I see the tomboy kink, a wave of agony washes over me as I’m certain 90% of people have no idea what a tomboy is 🗿

#tomboy #most of the time they’re still very femme or just throw on slightly masc clothing and look more like a branch of femboys #I’m very opinionated on tomboys thanks to my childhood and immediately latching onto every character of that type #the worse tomboys are when short dark hair and tan skin because we love skirting racism with skin #I think characters who strongly fit this category would be more of a turn off to a lot of people

Aw sick another round of people jumping to massive conclusions like new game announcements despite RGG Studio never using their streams to do that and Yokoyama having to say something to that extent and then people getting upset and angry at staff for “lying” to them and getting their hopes up

How it feels to scroll through the quote tweets on this with people saying theyre not “falling” for a major announcement:

The YGO rivals have the most inherently funny dynamic with the protags.

They’re out there, might as well be gnawing on glass in rage, throwing a fit over the protag breaking their carefully constructed walls and beating them in a supernatural card game. And then struggling with how easily and quickly they infect their heads and hearts. The audacity. THEN they make it everyone else’s problem half the time. They’re punching the air because they can’t get rid of the brainworms but also they’re rushing straight into them and trying to get the protag’s attention at the same time. Pick a struggle, my guy. Dont pick all of them, you fool.

Meanwhile the protagonists generally tend to sit there and be all “You don’t like me? :((((((((“ @ the rival in the early parts while everyone else around them thinks the rival is a massive asshole. Honey, darling, sweetie pie…

Every time someone compares Kaiba to Elon Musk or Tony Stark in the most genuine, unironic manner I feel a part of me whither into dust inside.

I think two of the main reasons why I can’t get behind most love interests given to a major rival character are:

1) The rival is way too obsessed with the protagonist to make it believable they’d have any chance with a significant other, or, hell, making it believable they’d even like anyone in that type of way. Whether the feelings for the protagonist or taken romantically or not by fans, those are still some extremely strong emotions that often lead the rival to insane lengths. I really can’t bring myself to imagine that this character could spend every other waking minute consumed with anger or what-have-you over the protagonist, and somehow, still have time on the side to pursue romance even if they don’t do it in typical/normal means. I would assume that unless the partner is also obsessed with the protagonist or very gullible, they’d have a huge problem with the rival flagging them down all the time.

2) The rival struggles to even admit to simple friendships and usually forms more complicated ones. Denial is usually at the start. So it’s difficult in a lot of cases to have them involved in a romance in a way that feels believable to me. It feels more like they should grapple with such emotions. Of course, though, this is for the rival characters who are really repressed or very emotionally unavailable.
