In defence of Molly...
In my first playthrough years ago I disliked her. I thought she was a spoiled brat. But that was because I didn't understand her. Being more in the camp in my other playthroughs I changed my mind on her completly. And now I truly feel sorry for her. Now she does have one issue: She doesn't integrate herself into the gang at all. She's always away from others. Is it inside Dutchs and her tent, next to it or completly alone somewhere else. But at the same time I understand that for her it might be more difficult. Maybe this life isn't made for her and I think she's with the Van der Linde-Gang, because she truly loves Dutch. And seeing him treating her like shit makes it sad. He is manipulative. He gaslights her. When she tries to talk with him, he is telling her that she's too emotional, to keep herself together, that it isn't important enough. He treats her like everything is her fault, that all she is is too emotional. And truly I don't think he loves her the way she deserves it. In fact, we can witness how his "love" vanishes from chapter to chapter. And there were a few times were Molly tried to reach out for help. One time she tried to talk to Arthur, and I truly wanted to help her, but Uncle interrupted her and basically pushed her to the side and she went away. And this was not the only time. She really tried. So in some way maybe this was her start to integrate herself. And this is what makes me feel sorry for her. Because at some point she tried, but we simply couldn't help. She is not a spoiled brat. All she wants is to be loved by the men that treats her more like an object - because I am sure enough that she's good enough for some alone time in their tent at night. She wants to be heard and taken seriously, which Dutch does not do. Her behaviour isn't perfect. She doesn't do any work, no chores, because she refuses to be someones servant. I think this shows that she is not made for a life like this. But does that mean she deserves all of this? And then when Dutch disappeared and was stranded in Guarma, she thought he was dead. I think after everything, this was her breaking point. Because Dutch was the only person she really sticked to in the camp. She doesn't get along with Karen, Sean doesn't like her, and she never really talks to the others. So who is there? At this point she's alone in this changing world that doesn't want Outlaws anymore. And we know how everything turned out; when Dutch was back, she was drunk and claimed to be a traitor. That she was the one telling the Pinkertons everything. We all know now that she lied. And I truly think that was her way of finally getting Dutchs attention. Attention that he for a long time didn't gave her. I think all she wanted was him to hear her out, but of course that was a mistake. Yet she was drunk, so I can't blame her for her action. At the same time I can't blame Susan for killing her. Susan will be another post, because I kind of enjoy this. Now, if all of this wasn't bad enough, she didn't even get a funeral. Dutch ordered the others to burn her. Now I get the anger of the gang. Because they want to protect each other. And they didn't know she was lying. But knowing that she wasn't a rat, I truly mean it when I say that she didn't deserve that. Nothing that happened to her. She is not a bad person. She is flawed, she is not perfect, but she is a victim. A victim of Dutchs neglect and maybe the right word even is abuse. Molly deserves better. And I don't think she deserves the spoiled-brat-title.
