Aftermere is the existing world of fairytales, the ones our parents told us all the stories from. The stories of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and much more take place here; it’s the place where the magic happens and where princes fight dragons to save their princesses. Every tale you ever heard is a real adventure happening here, brought out into the world to teach people the right values. It was for a good cause, it was noble; it was like it should be.

But after a while, some characters started to question their roles, especially after learning that some tales had been revised to make the line between good and evil even clearer than usual, attempting to make the moral of the story bigger than it was. So what you heard didn’t happen exactly and characters started to insist to change their own stories. Some found it simply unfair to have their stories rewritten, others used it as an opportunity to try and change their own stories as well, for worse or for better. Tension rose higher and higher and after a while the world of Aftermere as people once knew it, came to an end. Some fairytale characters stayed, continuing their stories, others left the fairytale realm to gain a foothold in the real world and blended in with the normal people; both parties claiming the other as too stubborn and too harsh to discuss any further. The tales were still told, to give the normal people a guide and still have them believe in magic and good, but hidden in plain sight the world was torn apart. Those who had left Aftermere, were banned from ever returning.

Years elapsed and the tense relationship between both sides forbade an early compromise. Only when the next generation came into the picture, the parents, the original fairytale characters, were willing to have a talk with the opposite and finally concluded an agreement, the so called Fairytale Accords. To work on a better relationship between the realms, the ban was rescinded, allowing the characters who had left to come back to Aftermere if they wanted or send their children to visit the fairytale realm.
