I can't stop thinking about a Silmarillion fix-it AU. I don't usually like AUs, but this one is a balm to my soul: Nerdanel went to the War of Wrath. Maybe in secret. And at the very end, she is the one standing guard over the Silmarils. Her sons sneak into the camp and are about to kill the guard... BUT THEN THEY SEE WHO IT IS and stop. In the end, it all turns out well for them. Someone, please, write this fanfic 🤧🤧🤧

Bór the Faithful and Ulfang the Black, easterlings. My favorite guys from the Silm whose names are once mentioned in the text and the second time in the list at the end of the book. For me, Ulfang be like "if evil why hot" and Bor is little bit ummm not conventionally attractive but friend-shaped.

So since the fandom has come the the (correct) conclusion that Samwise Gamgee is the absolute height of hobbit attractiveness standards, it only follows logically that hobbits see Sam working for Frodo as the middle earth equivalent of your weird eccentric rich neighbor having a hot pool boy. I think my funniest take on maglor is when I imagine him as a morose waif well before anything bad ever happened to him. He was the emo kid with his preppy family. He was well known for writing laments in the middle of valinor, a place that's notoriously lamentless. There was a whole year in which he refused to speak unless it was in poem or song. There was an even longer period of time in which he refused to put his hair up or wear any adornments when performing because it apparently distracted from the music—he'd just roll into concerts looking like the grudge but kept being invited onstage because he was just that good. I need him to be maedhros and celegorm's (admittedly incredibly talented) loser brother that gets dragged out with them because they adore him.

^ the unpainted drawing. i have been spending a lot of time drawing by the river which i think should explain the amount of springtime foliage. chokecherries are blooming today they smell so so good and theres so many of them. last year was a terrible chokecherry season in my area, this year conditions seem to be more favorable. :D i gave encouragements to them so hopefully in the summer i will get to make jam for my friends. i also had a chat with a duck yesterday i dont think she enjoyed it terribly but she did tolerate me long enough for pleasantries. also saw one million tiny tiny tiny fry hiding from the current behind a beaver dam in the river. and the damselfly and dobsonfly larvae are getting pretty big... soon there will be bugs bigger than gnats and small moths... exciting days to come at the river. also met a really rude clam. i dont wish to speak on that.

Elfbruary Day 8: Arwen the Smith

I noticed in my recent reread that the banner Arwen makes isn't described as embroidered or woven. It's described as "made" and "wrought." Words Tolkien uses for things made through smithcraft. And the materials mentioned for the banner are metals, not any specific cloth.

And then I remembered both the brooch she left for Aragorn in Lothlorien and that it isn't mentioned who reforged Narsil. Arwen is associated with smithcraft, so why not her? :)

I think people underestimate what Frodo was going through when he had to carry the ring to Mordor. Sam is a legend, but Frodo is also a hero. Everyday for six months the guy would wake up and have a Bluetooth wireless connection to Satan himself. He only crumbled in the last moment, Tolkien has said anyone would have fallen for the ring, let alone someone who had been carrying it for so long.

Sam and Frodo are both hero's as they are a two package deal, if one succeeds, the other does too.
