a beautiful christmas tree...
I’ve been loving the pace of the Mumbo videos lately he’s settled into a really good rhythm:
Hi everyone let’s try build two (2) (✌️) trees today :)
Experiences the most emotional turmoil and artistic agony a human can experience for the next eight minutes
Okay 😦 I think I like how the first tree is going 😟 I’m really happy with how my base is turning out 😬
Hi miscellaneous hermit of the day your base is so cool and everything you make is so cool and you’re so cool let’s go stargazing together and maybe kiss on the cheek and forehead but no further ☝️
Okay :) second tree time!
Fourteen minutes more of convulsing on the floor and coughing up blood
I had a once in a lifetime experience a few days back lol 😜 because
…………ooorgh……….. the suffering………
Okay time to talk about my OCs!
And then the episode is over
The answer to "How did these Ancient People do this????" is basically always
1. A lot of dudes. Just a ton of fucking people from beginning to end of the process.
2. Ancient people weren't stupid, they just figured shit out the same way we do: fuck around until you find out.
3. We're gonna plan this out and it's gonna take ten fucking years, and you will cope.
4. Sticks and string are surprisingly versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes, like moving stuff and making sure things are even and go in the spot you wanted to put them in!
5. I want to make this easier and more efficient to move. If I put this on the round thing and push, it will move. If I put this in water, it will move. If I get some animals and rope and have a whole bunch of them drag it, it will move. All of these things are a better option than one guy trying to pick the whole fucking thing up.
"I'm not calling the people who believe in this conspiracy theory racist" I am. They're racist. Maybe not out of malice, but the fact that they believe in this is in itself racist. These conspiracies are always about brown people. Machu Pichu, the Pyramids, Göbekli Tepe, Easter Island, it is ALWAYS POC. It's never the Parthenon, it's never the Colliseum, despite the fact that these were built around the same time as some of the other sites these conspiracy chucklefucks like to throw around, it's never something fucking European. It's always "primitive people" with "stone tools" and "no understanding of modern engineering" so "clearly someone must have taught them this or given them the technology because CLEARLY they were just too Primitive and Savage to figure it out themselves." Fuck off with that shit.
Also, one way these chucklefucks try to excuse their racism is, they insist the structures are way older than they really are. Graham Hancock is famous for peddling this bullshit; he's convinced an ancient civilization 15000 years ago had the technology and logistics to travel all over the world and build basically every monument and a couple geologic features he thinks are monuments. And he's a minor celebrity because he's written multiple books about his imaginary monument builders and even got a Netflix documentary series about his bullshit theory.
So like. Historians, archaeologists, locals who have preserved the local oral traditions, often people who are all three? They'll say "this earthworks monument is this age, this is how they built it, this is how we know." Then Graham Hancock and his ilk show up and say "ackchually 🤓 it's 15000 years old and Atlanteans built it. trust me, I did my own research."
Often these structures aren't... I swear I'm not trying to belittle people who did amazing things, but they're not technically impressive. The technology to build them isn't that complicated. But they're VERY logistically and culturally impressive because planning and coordinating and motivating that construction took a LOT of people working together for a LONG time and getting a lot of people together to build a big thing by hand is itself an amazing feat. And the workers who did it weren't just "unskilled" laborers, they were highly skilled artisans and trade workers.
So yeah, "aliens did it" or "Atlantis did it" is almost always racist and when it's not racist it still kinda is
I don’t even want to write a review of “Top Gun: Maverick” honestly, I’ve seen 1,500+ movies and I’ve never finished one that left me more depressed about the future of this country. I just want to stop thinking about it
By popular demand:
The White House just shared a video using footage from “Top Gun: Maverick” right before real footage of US bombs hitting Iran. I am sorry to announce that I have been 100% vindicated in my views on this movie.

on twitter in 2022 i said “fandom likes to baby white villains and excuse their behavior, like with kylo ren and snape and izzy hands” and i got torn to absolute shreds even though i wasnt saying anything new and now people are coming out of a black-ass vampire movie doting on the white villain
just found two gif sets, made by the same person, that didn’t include any of the black characters
from the black vampire movie
there’s a systemic problem where people latch onto and empathize with white antagonists over non white major characters
“the villain is supposed to be sympathetic?? how is it racist if i like the villain??”
there is a systemic problem where people will accept or even excuse the actions of a white villain and demonize non white characters— especially female ones — for the exact same actions
”but you’re supposed to think their actions are wrong bc they’re the hero! it’s expected when the villain is bad, which is why it’s subversive to like them”
there is a SYSTEMIC problem across MULTIPLE FANDOMS where white antagonists are offered MORE grace, sympathy and attention over their non white counterparts, even if the non white characters are major characters or even the protagonist
“you’re just an anti and a prude who thinks it’s evil to like antagonists and now you’re bullying innocent fans for having a preference”
I've been thinking about the fandom racism for a while, and I've come to realize that white people are just.....predisposed to be tone deaf about these things because they often dont have to ever TRULY consider any other point of view if whiteness is the standard where they live.
They dont have to relate to characters who are poc or poc coded because usually the media is chock full of people who look like them to choose from. But if some wander into a space that isn't largely white characters, they will latch onto a white character just for that sense of familiarity. They haven't had to put their pale skin aside for a character very often or even ever. They're accustomed to that privilege.
The never having to settle, it just seems to place a mental distance between them and characters they could relate to if they would just let go of the other white character they keep making excuses for. Many people point out characters that would be absolute smash hits if they were white but because they aren't they get entirely ignored or people perform weird hate toward them(Wyll art where they show him decapitated, or in a sexual relationship with his white coded slave owner mizora in baldurs gate, ekko having art of him being lynched by caitlyn, calling him the n word, and even making racist remarks to ekko's real literal actual person voice actor via social media? None of that was necessary. Not one bit).
White people, challenge yourselves to start finding characters in media that aren't white to relate to. And stop bending in knots to absolve a white characters misdeeds. Stop centering the white people in stories designed to have large poc casts. And stop acting as though race bending and white washing are the same thing.(Race bending is to ADD to the character. To add a headcanon layer of the socio status and life of that character. Much like a headcanon for sexuality or gender. Its another layer. But white washing? That's literally detracting because even if you dont understand the way their canon race or ethnicity adds to the story, I promise it does. It also adds the message to real people of color that the white people dont want us. That we are something that can be erased or shoved away. One is a celebration of the character from a lense of saying "this reminds me of my or another culture, and im going to think about them with that added complexity of how they navigate the world", the other feels like "we want the character but not their culture and not their ethnic traits, its too spicy and we are picking off the parts that are unpalatable.")
i took a literature class in college that focused exclusively on non-white authors, and i still talk to the professor who taught it. we’ve had a lot of conversations about how a lot of white students take those classes assuming they’ll be easy — how much interiority and complexity could brown people have anyway? — and MASSIVELY struggle. they suddenly don’t understand what the story is trying to tell them. they feel alienated by non-english words even if 99% of the text is in english. they can’t relate to the characters. they are often 18 years old or older, and discovering for the first time in their entire lives something that POC have had to do since we learned how to read — how to understand and relate to someone even if they look nothing like you
how can you claim to be imaginative and transgressive if that imagination stops the second you’re asked to think about non white characters in stories that CENTER them?
Exactly this. Literally, EXACTLY this. White people tend to live in a world where nuance is dead if it isn't from another person like them. Its the flattening of poc in their minds. The flattening others, reducing to function.
When the threat of segregation popped up again a few months ago, many poc I saw were having fun making jokes about it in online spaces, but any white people i saw were almost EXCLUSIVELY upset due to the mere prospect of having to eat unseasoned food. Never mind literally anything else, they just wanted access to "good food" and made no other comments at large. They were begging other white people not to be bigots because they won't have access to their favorite restaurants, but damn the people who make that food, huh?
Its much the same in media. They make poc people tropes or cutouts to support the white characters and when they do that enough, thats it, they no longer matter. Not to mention that these characters are meant to serve this purpose so absolutely that they often dont get a love interest, or their own aspirations. They're a satelite character who only revolves around another one who's deemed more important and gets more agency and development.
The kick in the teeth with sinners in particular is that there's such a rush of people who are focused on remmick despite the beautiful story the other characters tell. This oversaturation of him is pushing poc out of participation in a fandom space that was meant for US as poc, particularly black, asian, and mixed folk. Especially given that the movie spells it out for the white audience, but they refuse to engage with that. Its telling that they do exactly as remmick did, forcing their way in at the cost of others, entirely unaware the whole time.
I usually hate seeing people being stiffed for their labor but I think it’s very funny ICE agents have not been getting their $50k sign on bonus, many are still waiting for their healthcare benefits to kick in and some are complaining they haven’t been getting their paychecks. You sold your soul to the Exploiting and Abusing People Agency and they started exploiting you too? Wow. Crazy.
this concept is hilarious to me oh my god, etho your brain
