Cozy on Trend
With this suddenly cold weather, it looks like winter is going to sneak up on us again. Be prepared with the seasons hottest coat trends. See MORPHEW’s outerwear section for all of our coat options.
The Duvet Cover: H&M and Margiela’s collaboration a few years ago brought in style the oversized and shapeless down coat. Add some color with this flouncy vintage HENRIK VIBSKOV COPENHAGUE coat, reminiscent of a fitted sheet (middle). Or stick with the traditional black with this oversized HENRIK VIBSKOV COPENHAGUE down coat (right), both with a conceptual look similar to that of Margiela’s.
Full of Fur: Fur is always on trend for winter, especially now with the fashion world’s ability to source it humanely. Both Givenchy and Altuzarra had full fur pieces in their shows. With a more poncho look, this Patrick Kelly Astrakhan fur coat is perfect for throwing over an oversized sweater (left). Our black Saga fox fur coat is great for everyday or an evening look. Its super soft fur will keep you warm and cozy (right).
Neon Quilted: Jeremy Scott always uses bright colors and his winter show was full of quilted pieces. Our 1980s neon green coat is a fun way to add color (right). With a wide collar and pockets, the silhouette is classic and always in style.
Leather Trench: For a more fitted look in fall, follow Alexander McQueen’s lead with a collared leather trench. Our 1970s soft brown leather coat can be worn in fall, winter, and spring, with a sweater under it or as an evening jacket (right).
Oversized: Classic and minimal, The Row’s winter show boasted simple oversized coats. Perfect for throwing over your favorite chunky sweater this winter, our ROMEO GIGLI orange hooded riding cape has a beautiful draped look and pockets for all of your essentials (right).
Patterned: Gucci’s rebranding has taken a wonderful turn and is bringing new trends to the fashion world. For a revamped classic look, the double breasted collared trench is perfect. The 1960s black and white balloon coat is a great transitional piece for fall and spring (right).
Musical #FBF
This week, we have musicals on our minds. Though 20 years apart, both “The Music Man” and “Victor Victoria” feature Robert Preston and his charismatic charm. “The Music Man,” 1962, is set in small town Idaho at the turn of the century. While “Victor Victoria,” 1982, is set in Paris in the 1930s. MORPHEW’s archive features a few key pieces from these eras.
The iconic scene in “Victor Victoria” of Julie Andrews, pretending to be a man playing a woman, performing “The Shady Dame from Seville” features her in a Spanish flamenco style dress. This grey blue printed silk 1930s dress features loose sleeves and a bodice pleated into the waistline (left). Our red printed silk 1930s dress is slightly longer in length with floral velvet appliqués and ruffled drape sleeves (right).
Emphasizing the glamour of show business in the 1930s, the first musical number in “Victor Victoria”, “Le Jazz Hot”, features Julie Andrews in a fringe sleeved dress with an elaborate beaded headdress. This MORPHEW gold head piece is a redesigned 1980s belt. It is exquisite and unique with gold flowers draping around the wearer’s head.
“The Music Man” is set at the turn of the century in Iowa. The Edwardian and Victorian era fashions are plentiful and colorful. This elegant sheer Victorian bolero is unique and beautifully designed. Its cropped length is figure flattering.
With the traditional design of the pillar skirt, this rare 1910s directory dress has an elegant velvet bodice and defined waistline.
This 1890s collared dress has classic mutton chop sleeves of the Victorian era. With beautiful detail stitching on the collar and cuffs and a full skirt, this double breasted button dress is a fashionable piece for the fall.
Sweater Weather
New York may have not quite decided what season it is, but we are getting ready for fall! Cropped or loose or chunky knit, we love prepping for layering season and here are some of MORPHEW’s top sweaters.
This pale blue angora rayon sweater is soft and hand knit. With an artisanal look of varying yarns and stitches, this cropped little number goes great with high waisted jeans or a skirt and tights.
Ombre is always in style, and this ombre static loose fitting sweater is an easy chic piece to add texture to any look.
This Vivienne Westwood inspired mixed media sweater has a punk couture aesthetic. In a deep sienna orange, this slouchy knit piece is great for fall.
With a loose shawl collar, this sparkly, cable knit and silk sweater has a flattering fitted hem. Wear over a shirt for a layered look, or on its own; this sweater has a funky unique flare.
Getting Graphic
Street style from New York, London, and Milan Fashion Weeks is heavy with black, white, and red prints and patterns. MORPHEW has a great selection of graphic vintage pieces for fall inspiration.
Plaid has been popular for the past few autumns, but why not enjoy it in black and white with a touch of red?
This Jean Paul Gaultier beaded dress from the 1990s has a unique black and white argyle with red detailing.
Combining graphic motifs, with a touch of red as an accent color, makes a statement piece pop!
Our Gianfranco Ferre Geo Top combines architectural geometrics with a modern and minimal color story (left). A perfect statement fall jacket, Jean Paul Gaultier’s Japanese inspired jacket is bold, yet figure flattering (right).
Redefine dots: wear them small or make them oversized and abstract.
Mix up the standard polka dot with a graphic geometric print with this 1960s dress (left), or with an abstract print that looks like a snow storm on this printed Ungaro dress (right).
Vary your stripes: go bold and bright, or small and repetitive.
This Hermes ribbon shirt puts a new spin on the traditional stripe (left). This 1960s geometric mini skirt has the perfect colors and fabrication for fall (right).
Abstract black and white prints are great for fall because they go with everything from neutral leathers to colorful sweaters.
This 1970s Aubrey Beardsley printed dress is an easy look for fall and can be paired with a sweater or jacket.

Red, White, and Blue
With red, white, and blue being the colors of over 20 different flags, New York and London showed a fair amount of patriotism during Fashion Week. Marc Jacobs and Gareth Pugh celebrated the tricolor combo and played with stripes, plaid, and other patterns. And the MORPHEW archive is teeming with similar pieces!
These go-go boots are Wonder Woman-esque with a scalloped opening and star pattern. True vintage from the 1970s, these boots can be worn to spice up a daytime look or for a full patriotic ensemble.

The sequins of the 1980s are legendary, and Gareth Pugh seemed to be inspired by them. MORPHEW’s vintage 80s large sequined lightning bolt top can liven up a day look or worn for a sparkling evening out.

Not Your Mother’s Pantsuits
As Fashion Week transitions from New York to London, we are looking back at what NYC had to show for itself. Pants for spring are wide legged and flowing, and we curated a few similar styles from the MORPHEW archive.
With full volume, wide legs, and a high waist, this pair of Mugler pants (left) are easily paired with heels and a blouse for a chic business casual look. These cropped wide leg vintage Comme Des Garcons pants (right) are a slightly more avant garde, similar to the pants in Ralph Lauren’s SS16 show (middle).
Altuzarra’s show featured linen and burlap as primary fabrics for the SS16 collection. These 1990s Issey Miyake pleated linen pants (left) feature an interesting inseam cross pleat for a lighter, more casual look.
McQ Alexander McQueen had edgy, loose suits throughout the SS16 presentation. For a more androgynous and contemporary look, these silk chiffon pants (left) are a great way to spice up a work look. With a combination of sheer and shiny stripes, these pants take the tuxedo style to a new level.
With some pants verging on skirts, Ralph Lauren experimented with volume and draping in his SS16 show (right). These 1970s pleated wide leg pants (left) are a funky and unique take on this trend. Fun and playful, they are versatile enough to be styled as a sophisticated business look as well.
Farewell to Downton
As the final season of Downton Abbey premieres in the UK today, we wanted to celebrate the style of the 1920s. Anna Robbins, the talented lawyer turned costume designer, put her creative stamp on the show with the incredible period pieces worn by the characters. One of the most iconic decades of style, the 1920s are always a source of inspiration for fashion designers and stylists. MORPHEW’s extensive collection of pieces from the period can help you elevate your vintage style to a new level of luxe. Below we’ve chosen just a few of our favorites!
Daytime or evening looks, these beautifully beaded 1920s vintage pieces are great investments for a timeless style. Explore the archive of original 20s couture and find more vintage designer pieces at MORPHEW.
