noctis is from wutai, though he is only half wutai & this is on his father’s side.
also on his father’s side, noctis is descended from a clan with a particularly close connection to leviathan ; members of his family are sometimes considered leviathan’s chosen.
this clan traces its roots to the kings of an ancient civilization, presumably ones with some association with the ancients.
if noctis does possess the blood of the ancients, it’s been horribly diluted by now, as with anyone else.
his family is still very wealthy & his upcoming marriage to lunafreya is very publicized. still, his father insisted that he live a normal life, so he does & has an ordinary job, too.
so you could say he’s kind of a celebrity and is sometimes recognized as the poster child for wutai’s resort agenda as per shinra.
he is an optional party member that works as a chef at a sushi restaurant ( based off the one he used to work at in ffxv’s canon ) in wutai village. it is connected to the turtle’s paradise pub. it’s a result of shinra’s influence turning wutai into a resort that garners to the tastes of people from all parts of the world.
the ring of the lucii manifests as an accessory exclusive to noctis. it is a rare item that allows the wearer to directly tap into the lifestream via leviathan.
this also serves as an alternate ‘ summoning materia ’ for leviathan, however, the summon will do whatever it pleases and cannot always be controlled by the wearer of the ring
those who unworthy of the ring will face the wrath of the planet in the form of a fast - acting strain of geostigma, more commonly known as starscourge.
it is not mentioned in any medical texts & any accounts have been lost to history / the properties of the ring are a family secret.
the ring, of course, still saps the wearer’s life force whenever it is used
shinra sought after the ‘ crystal ’ that the lucii were said to also be closely tied to — along with another family, the fleurets — as historical evidence suggests that its a solidified portion of the lifestream.
a strange crystal has been located, however, it appears to be nothing of significance
should shinra acquire the power of the ring of the lucii, they will be granted with immeasurable power
noctis underwent testing at the hands of shinra because of his status as leviathan’s chosen during the wutai war, but a ‘ developed sickness ’ / mako poisoning leaves him temporarily without the use of his legs and he’s returned to wutai at the age of nine
though allowed to be independent, he is never without supervision
his eyes do indeed have that mako glow
sometimes they even flash red
( anger, limit break, materia use, using the ring, & summoning )
he has the regalia & it is his main form of transportation

their engagement was to be a symbol of peace between wutai and midgar ; wutai putting a stop to that only enforces the belief that they’re responsible for the attacks
of course, shinra had no plans to allow the marriage to come to fruition
she is made a martyr for the people of midgar to rally behind to stand against avalanche and wutai
naturally, this only increases noctis’ distaste for shinra.
rather than traveling from insomnia to altissia, noctis travels from wutai to midgar to carry out their union midway through the final act of ffvii
this is what returns him to shinra’s hands if he is not recruited when the party visits wutai
regis dies when the plate falls in sector 7 as he’d been there on business & works in urban development as more a hands - on executive. so under reeve.
noctis wants revenge on shinra
this can be expanded way more … i basically wanted to tie in that hamlet element from the original game
if not recruited, he does once again undergo testing at one of shinra’s underground sites which lasts for the next few years & ties into the deepground operation.
