King of Clubs: Montrose Pretty

M-M-M-Montrose! That's right, I haven't given up on The Adventure Deck! I was able to unlock the character design by finding a hairstyle reference. I really enjoyed the concept and visual effect of having the mask be without the graphite texture of all the card deck coloring.

The worst headache of Taako’s life was solved by drinking jellyfish piss. Literally. Not even slightly an exaggeration. The cannonball brought them to the moon and an even worse headache, to the point where Taako was practically seeing stars. Lots of faded memories of people staring at them all as they were led through—through what was like a campus but they were on a moon but it wasn’t a moon but—but—but— And then the jellyfish piss. It tasted terrible, Taako nearly doubled over, was certain he was about to vomit, but then he remembered. Remembered through the static of the words, how Killian had called the gauntlet the Phoenixfire Gauntlet, how she’d said she worked for an organization called the Bureau of Balance, working to keep powerful items—the seven Grand Relics—out of the hands of a world that had been made to forget. Taako blinked. Blinked again. He’d woken up in the cave that had hid the gauntlet. Lup had brought them there. “Fuck,” he said.

thats right chapter SIX is here!!!! in which taako moves to the moon and also we somehow fit two entire taz arcs into one chapter. will popular character 'taako's cat rosemary' succeed in running off the moon? will lup finally come back? HOW WILL ANGUS MAKE IT TO THE MOON? all these questions and more will be answered in the chapter! i hope you enjoy <3

Something about how Lucretia "The Lonely Journal Keeper" was lonely from the beginning. How she was set apart in her role as "the chronicler", decidedly not a dedicated scientist or adept magic user or adventurous hero, alone in her role within the crew. How she stayed behind on the ship most often, how she had to endure her own awful, lonely year, how she loved her family so much but that was not enough to save them. How she was the only one to be inoculated during the century, the only one whose opinion differed amidst the seven and the only one who could do what needed to be done. The Director was so, so lonely after she put her plan in motion, but the weight of the world had always been settled upon her back. The Lonely Journal Keeper had been lonely long before she was actually alone.

Ok yeah. Upon relistening to the four most recent episodes of raz royale, it really does seem to me like the octaves are just making shit up to manipulate some of the aspirants into doing shit to try and encourage their more ruthless and power-hungry side and motivate them to actually fight the other aspirants

It's been a long time coming, but here are my reworked designs of these three! After years of hearing about Balance through word of mouth and seeing a few animatics in 2015, I finally listened to it in 2021. I've been a TAZ fan ever since :)

Thought I'd show their original designs from May 2021 too, along with a page of outfit ideas for Taako (slightly reworked) from June of that year. I love the party members equally but can you tell whom out of all three I think about the most? 😅

So after the most recent taz episode, I'm completely split between two possibilities I think might be happening

1. The octaves made up all the shit with death and rictus, and with hellgrammite and the mite queen, and probably did the same thing to a bunch of other aspirants to try and get some of them to suspect things and start hatching their own plans to separate the more machiavellian contestants from the rest, and used those various sideplots to engineer the trial of illusion to make it seem as organic as possible, while also culling the last few who might be too obedient, incurious, or willful

2. The sideplots are real, but the octaves themselves are not real, and are instead either puppets or projections of whatever the fuck chris the giant nefarious eye is, and being the last aspirant standing just means that you get turned into another puppet of this thing. Alternatively, chris/the giant eye is just a captive thrikeen, and this "magic" the octaves claimed to serve is the real boss that is puppeting or creating the octaves, in classic final fantasy style

Relistening to Balance and headcanoning that Royale takes place in the world from Cycle 82 where the plane of magic and the material plane collided. (Like years after Royale takes place, to be clear)

on my latest relisten of TAZ Balance i’ve really noticed how much storyline Griffin invests in each of the three main characters (stuff like Merle being the one to parlay with John, having Lup essentially be Taako’s guardian the entire time without anyone knowing it) , but especially Magnus. having Magnus be the first of the Tres Horny Boys to be revealed as a red robe, having Magnus be the first one to communicate with the Voidfish. Of course Travis making the character and RPing choices he does is obviously a big part of it, but Griffin taking that and making Magnus specifically such an important part of the overall story absolutely slaps. Magnus Burnsides means so much to Travis, and to Griffin, and to ME
