kind of crazy that the sun is the closest thing we have to an unholy seething vortex of magical energy, a pulsating orb that is periodically ripped by screaming flares that lash us with incredible ferocity from a hundred million miles away, and we're like mmm what a nice day! 😊
one of my favorite Sun Facts is that if sound could be transmitted through the vacuum of space the intensity of sound power emitted from the sun that reached the earth would be roughly as intense a noise as a jet airplane taking off a couple hundred meters away. The Sun is really loud!
Another one of my favorite Sun Facts is that the actual nuclear fusion occurs in roughly the innermost 25% by radius and the actual energy output is on the order of the amount produced just by your body keeping itself warm. But the Sun is very very big and very very old so it gets very very hot despite how absurdly slow fusion is.
It takes a solar photon generated in the core between 10,000 years and 170,000 years to reach the surface, for a speed of 0.00014 to 0.002 m/s, because of absorption and then re-emission in the dense interior. And then they break free at the photosphere and start traveling at the speed of light for the rest of their lifetime.
if they're getting absorbed and "re-emitted" is it really the same photon 🤔

What's the airline in the sailor costume and the one to the right of it in the hat?
I want to fuck the plane
How much would it change if the plane wasn't anthro
quite a bit honestly very few planes have real sex appeal besides the B-1. I'd bone the bone
If I had to guess, the one in a sailor costume is JetBlue, which flies exclusively E170, A220, and A320 series aircraft (a320 non-mint would be most appropriate here given the others).
The one to its right is pretty clearly some sort of Alaska Airlines 737 Max aircraft, given the serrated engine cowling (that also dates the reference info to before about April of this year, as that is when they received their first 787, which is a widebody!)
Also just something I noticed: the United pilot uniform here only has 2 sleeve/epaulette stripes which suggests that the person/plane is a flight engineer (the third person in the cockpit), a position which was effectively phased out in US passenger airlines by the mid 2000s
Oh and that delta plane is almost certainly an A350 given the swept winglets but I’m pretty sure both of the others are Boeings (this makes sense bc delta is a big airbus widebody customer but they have 767s still in service so it could have been all Boeing)
…aaand on further inspection, Spirit has a halo which means the artist may not have realized at the time that Alaska has a 787 (or else it’s some sort of joke because Alaska has technically owned wide bodies ever since they acquired Hawaiian)
Wait it would be REALLY funny if JB was looking longingly at spirit bc of that blocked merger back in like 2022 lol
Omgggggg they gave all of the 737s pointy noses and all the 320s rounder ones I love this image. Also I think UA has to be a 76 given the older tail design but maybe not.
Final thought is that breeze and avelo need representation bc they operate mainline narrow bodies. Ooh and also maybe allegiant and sun country!
I really appreciate the detective work going on here :] This is in fact a sketch I made a couple months ago that I just finished coloring recently. I didn’t want to replace spirit (she’s too iconic) so I just added a halo on last minute for a joke
The planes I modeled them after are:
American 787, United 777, Delta a350
Spirit a320, southwest 737max, JetBlue a320, Alaska 737max, frontier a320
Jetblue’s costume is based on old flight attendant uniforms, with the little pillbox hat and scarf.
Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to fly through you again Because a beacon softly beeping Lined us up while I was seeking And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the local airport
In restless dreams, I flew alone Narrow beams below us shone 'Bove the halo of a street lamp I turned my throttle from the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the localairport
And in the parking lot, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People blogging without speaking People liking without listening People writing songs that voices never shared And no one dared Disturb the local airport
"Tower am I clear to land?" Engines like a lion roar Filled with fuel that I might teach you Lowered the flaps that I might reach you But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the local airport
And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming Then the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the cockpit wall; WARNING STALL" And whispered in the local airport
I think a lot of writers might benefit from giving themselves permission to get weird with format.
Use second person, drop classic rising action and climax format, write backwards, just sit in a moment, tell all you want and refuse to show, make an entire book that’s just one run on sentence, reject tropes, use all tropes, cliche yourself to death, produce something that’s completely gibberish. Break all the rules of marketability. Become ungovernable.
Write a story that just takes place inside one pathetic little person’s head. Do it. It’s enrichment in your enclosure.
Do the writer’s equivalent of playing with finger paints. Do it do it do it do it do it do it do it do it do it do it do it do it
It’s the middle of the night and I should be sleeping but listen. Listen. Just get weird with it. Open your soul up a little bit. Like actually don’t worry about it being palatable. I’m serious. Get weirder. Get weirder right now. I’m demanding that you get weirder right now. It’s not your responsibility to make your reader feel good. It’s your job to make art, goddamnit. Make art. Make weird art. Open up your third eye and eat an entire cheesecake.
