Our Story, Our School: Why Iligan Capitol College's Basic Education is the Best Foundation for Success
A good school's primary purpose is to educate and to enrich it's students in key skills and knowledge to prepare them for the outside world ahead as responsible citizens, a great school also values the development of their students' moral character. As a parent, it can be hard to find a school that best meets the standards you want for your children. We, as students of Iligan Capitol College would like to propose why our school fits those standards.
Iligan Capitol College (ICC) is an institution dedicated not only to teach topics that encourages problem solving and critical thinking skills, but to cultivate an environment designed to develop each students' strengths, learn the power of teamwork, and most importantly foster meaningful values of virtue and good morals. Iligan Capitol College's basic education focuses on developing the total persons, achieving this through talent enriching clubs, memorable events, and an excellent curriculum made possible by our dedicated teachers and faculty.
Each student has their own journey towards and through their experiences here in this school, and i would like to tell how i became a student here in ICC:
During the worldwide Covid lockdown in 2020, my proper education was abruptly halted. I was living abroad and had just finished 5th grade, I was looking forward to the next year, suddenly we were told to stay in our homes and not go outside to stop the spread of the disease. I was forced to continue my education through provided online modules and through zoom calls. That affected my ability to interact with people and socialize with my peers. After i finished junior high, my family decided that i should start senior high in the philippines closer to my extended family.
As of writing this, It is my first year at ICC, and so far it has been so rewarding and enriching. My new environment taught me to be confident in myself. ICC taught me the value of discipline and their events have brought me closer to my peers than i ever did in my previous years. One of the most significant achievements i have from this school is passing my first quarter with honors. While my family wasn't there to celebrate with me but the thought of telling them was enough for me. I couldn't have made it there without our excellent teachers dedicated to teach us, and specifically my homeroom teacher who has been so kind and so incredibly patient with my class. I only hope that i pass my 1st semester with honors again.
Here are some of my fellow classmates' whom they've also had memorable experiences here in ICC:
1. One of the simple but fun experiences I had at lligan Capitol College was when we had our acquaintance party on campus. Everyone Wore summer sunset-themed outfits. I was very happy being with my classmates. We laughed together, took pictures, and sang as a group. It was a joyful day because it felt like we were one big family.
Even though the event was simple, it truly made me happy. I felt lucky to be part of this school. I will never forget that day.
2. During the Buwan ng Wika celebration, I proudly joined a traditional dance competition that highlighted our rich Filipino cultural heritage. Together with my classmates and the Epsilon students, we formed a unified team dedicated to honoring the beauty of makalumang sayaw. We spent weeks rehearsing after school, perfecting every step, hand gesture, and formation to stay true to the dance’s authentic style. Our hard work and unity paid off when we were awarded first place in the competition. The judges praised our synchronized movements, vibrant costumes, and heartfelt storytelling through dance. This victory was not just a personal achievement but a collective triumph rooted in teamwork, discipline, and cultural pride. Representing our school alongside such passionate and talented peers was an unforgettable experience. Most importantly, it deepened my appreciation for Philippine traditions and the power of collaboration in keeping them alive.
My Success is due mainly towards 2 important values of this school:
Discipline – ICC has many tasks and activities to fulfill, as a student it's important to be responsible with your time. This value is instilled by our teachers through their worksheets and assignments to develop a focused mindset in hopes it will help us in our personal lives, and it has helped me balance my school and personal life.
Integrity – Honesty is the best policy. It is important to maintain integrity of oneself, to take accountability for your actions, and to be honest and admit the truth as soon as possible so you can help yourself.
On top of that, a core value i always try to uphold is to show Respect. I make sure to be attentive when a teacher is discussing a topic, and to adress them with courtesy. I keep in mind that they themselves are people with their own lives, and it would be inconsiderate to act rude to them. Respect also applies to the classroom and the campus as a whole. Keep the room clean and tidy, pick up garbage that's lying around, and clean as you go.
