Disclaimer* this is NOT a rewrite—it is a soft reboot style fanfiction that works off of the assumption that the original show exists. Any changes I make in this fanfic are specific to this universe, and not a commentary on Cannon. I want everyone to know that I absolutely adore cannon.
So yeah, for those of you who have been here a while, here it is! My rough concept for that theoretical reboot I keep talking about. For tag reasons we’ll call it the Miraculous Apprentice Au, since this will function close enough to an AU that we can just call it one for simplicity’s sake. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this one whenever I put it out—this is kind of a writing exercise for me mixed with just wanting to explore one of my favorite stories in a different way. I’m a spontaneous poster/artist, so updates will probably be infrequent, and it’s highly unlikely I’ll ever finish, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me from putting it out for people to enjoy. So yeah, hope you enjoy, and I also hope you can read it okay. Let me know in the comments if you can’t, and I’ll post a transcript for you down there.
After drawing all the kwamis individually, I knew I needed to make a miracle box to put them all together! Some symbols were a bit more tedious to draw than others, but I’m very happy with it and how cohesive it looks :)
the biggest of thank yous to everyone who enjoyed the little kwamis series! I started doing it simply because I figured out a way I liked one day, and focusing on replicating the kwamis while adding my own designs really helped me push through art block 🩷 All the kind words and comments mean more than I can say. I was thinking about another potential crossover material for Kpop Demon Hunters (at this point, that's all of my original posts here lol), and I was thinking about what would happen if miraculouses were within its universe. Now I'm not talking about Marinette and co interacting with demon hunters, as unless something super unusual happened that could alert even Miraculous Holders, I don't think those two factions would meet beyond "fans meeting their idols", and I'm also not interested here in swapping places because configurations are endless but will pretty much go back to "Marinette is Rumi and Adrien or Luka are Jinu", so instead I figured "what jewels would be good match for Kpop Demon Hunters if they got their hands on miraculouses (including Chinese motherbox and eagle miraculous only; prodigious by itself only adds firepower to the mayhem but wouldn't be anything essential)
Rumi: for resemblance, I think both tiger and dragon miraculouses could work for her, based on both what she represents when it comes to four symbol gods (which is my inspiration for some picks) and in general vibe Rumi has), tiger for her patterns and heavily headcanoned cat tendencies, along with how much power she gains from clout and can express through, and also Derpy being her adopted pet;
dragon for her sword, dragon braid, and for sheer power, Rumi has, though it adds a twist with how Rumi would gain power over elements she normally doesn't possess.
HOWEVER, while those miraculous match her vibe, I think the best miraculous that would suit her would be the eagle miraculous. Rumi's whole mantra as her character development is her desire to be free and to free everyone else from Gwi-ma's influence, something Eagle Miraculous can conveniently do for her. She could use it to get over her own shame regarding her demonhood (which would limit her patterns or make them beautiful much like it happened in the final scene), it could help Celine get over her own issues with demons and love Rumi fully; it could permanently severe link with Gwi-ma and release Jinu (and potentially other Saja Boys) and even their shame without necessarily memory or humanity wipe that Gwi-ma could cause if he were to do it (maybe even help demons regain their memories and humanity too) and most of all; release everyone from Gwi-ma's trance (humans and demons alike) without the need for Honmoon magic. Granted, Eagle Miraculous would serve here as a crutch/cheat code, as in something that can be done easier, because truth to be told, everything Eagle Miraculous can do, Rumi and everyone around her could do on their own (with maybe the exception of Gwi-ma having physical control over demons) and it's more about how hard it is to do it without it being impossible.
Zoey: Now, for both her resemblance to her four god symbols and her natural love for her creatures, Zoey absolutely could rock the turtle miraculous. It would prove to be quite useful in protecting civilians and containing demons, and there's a good chance that miraculous protection could be used to aid Honmoon due to it being also protection magic, so Zoey could potentially make it more durable than the typical one (not necessarily golden, rather emerald) all on her own, which could also help in case girls are going through crisis like in the movie (though I bet emerald honmoon would still be a bandaid solution in general as we know that Shell-ter by itself is not indestructible).
Alternatively, another good match for her would be the mouse Miraculous, as it would always be more beneficial to have an army to counter the army of demons (so bathhouse and train incidents could've been more manageable overall), plus imagine: an army of a hundred tiny Zoey's throwing knives everywhere.
Mira: Regarding her four god symbol, Mira's miraculous choice could be the infamous rooster miraculous (as in for vermillion bird). The miraculous would be fine, as it could give Mira any power she needs, depending on the situation, which can't really do much wrong.
However, another miraculous that I would give her that would be an even better match would be a horse miraculous. We know that girls can sense ripples and weak spots within Honmoon and will usually immediately rush to a place where a tear opens. Still, I could imagine that horse miraculous could help all hunters cut to the chase a bit quicker if Mira can just teleport all of them to the place where a potential tear would appear, and then swiftly come back to where they were last time (like the movie doesn't touch on this but the girls really be running all across Seoul to hunt demons). Bonus points: Mira always looks great in glasses.
Celine: Now, it is somewhat agreed that Celine no longer really possesses her Huntress powers now that Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are active demon hunters, and all Celine can do now is just sense the Honmoon, so I could imagine that a miraculous that would help her aid the girls more conveniently than her already ever-present badassery would be the ladybug miraculous, due to how it could serve as a substitude for Hunter's magic (especially if she could potentially fix the Honmoon whenever it would get the weak spot after slaying the demons that weakened it in the first place). Plus, I could imagine Celine using Ladybug Miraculous just fine since she was ready to fight Rumi with a sickle that some fans pointed out to be rather a gardening tool version, so I can imagine Celine being more creative by using what she has on hand, especially if she normally doesn't have powers of her own now.
Another miraculous that would be very convenient for her would be the rabbit miraculous, so she wouldn't screw up as royally as she did in the actual movie, by having a proper understanding of the past, present, and the future, and helping accordingly for everything to fall in line as intended. She could reconcile with Mi-Yeong before she died, she would know in hindsight how to help with every issue Rumi has and would have in the futur,e and raise her better, she could even search for wisdom in the past that could help the girls understand how to fight demons better in the present and what could be potential future plans of Gwi-Ma and how to counter them.
Bobby: Now, if Bobby were to know about the whole demon deal, I could imagine that since the girls wouldn't want him to put himself in danger, and him potentially not being as much of a badass as the girls (we still love him, but he doesn't need to kill demons to have our hearts), I could imagine him having the butterfly miraculous to actively support demon hunters in their fights while keeping the distance. He could absolutely sense what's going on thanks to his empathy and have a bigger understanding of the whole situation and give whatever powers girls would need for him if things were going south, or potentially even use the demons to fight other demons or even some other humans that could've catch a glimpse of what's going on (and this would also be convenient way of erasing their memory, because while girls were sneaky, accidents can happen and we know demons aren't entirely invisible to the public). I was considering if Peacock Miraculous could also be suitable, and technically it would be, but I could imagine that Bobby, being the sweetheart he is, would not send his creations to fight demons, as those would be his babies; he doesn't want anything bad to happen to them.
To make things interesting, I would be giving Saja Boys miraculous too; I won't be giving miraculous to other demons, as they're mostly background characters. I also won't give a miraculous to Gwi-Ma because I have no idea how a sentient bonfire could wear jewelry. He'd most likely just consume it and possess its power, but I really don't see a miraculous that would be the best for him that he couldn't make work regardless, or something he can't probably do already all by himself (or even use it smartly for that matter).
Jinu: Since I believe Jinu also has a resemblance to four god symbols like HUNTR/X, I could imagine that he would wear either tiger or dragon miraculous (and depending on who you think fits it better, Rumi will get the one that remains, so to speak, as in Tiger!Rumi and Dragon!Jinu or Dragon!Rumi and Tiger!Jinu, like, honestly, either works, and in the end, when Jinu dies, Rumi would unify both), tiger for the sake of his pet, his back tattoo, his patterns and demon eyes, and how he used claws to fight Rumi and how he also gains power from clout;
dragon, more so for his narrative role as Gwi-Ma's "dragon" and rival to Rumi, along with demons, also possessing some dragon characteristics, too, if you ask me.
HOWEVER, much like Rumi, I envision completely different miraculous to be the best for him, and that would be the fox miraculous. Jiny is smart, cunning, crafty, witty, and manipulative, being great at deception and taking advantage of any situation he's in, along with being a performer first and foremost. Demons also already possess illusion-like abilities with their shape-shifting and disappearing in clouds of smoke, so Jinu, with the fox miraculous, would absolutely be dangerous. It was also, it was also his idea to have impostors separate HUNTR/X, which would require some good illusionist stuff, and I could imagine that Soda Pop turning everything colorful could also be thanks to him.
Abby: Abby is a pretty simple choice to me, as I'd give him the ox miraculous. Ox would be very dangerous and inconvenient for Hunters for a demon to possess as it can make the wearer invulnerable to any magical or status damage (along with magical suits already making normal holders invulnerable) so pair this with a guy that is known to be pretty distracting to both Mira and Zoey and you have a very dangerous mix as you just know the girls could end up being fixated on "giant indestructible abs" and the giant hammer that will hit them if they don't keep eyes on his hands.
Romance: now Romance is even worse, as the miraculous I'm giving him is the snake miraculous. Romance in general doesn't have much going on in comparison to other Saja Boys, pretty much ending up as the least popular of them all and the one people would pay the least attention to (which is a big ouch, but to be fair, someone had to be the fifth and all Saja Boys still have everyone fixated on them anywho so it's like the worst of the elite so no big deal) which can be beneficial for any snake miraculous holder as normally they don't have many means to defend themselves, but leave them alone and Second Chance will make it impossible to win against him or his allies.
Mystery: Now for the vibes he has, of course, people would give him the dog miraculous due to his barking and resembling the Korean breed of dog, Sapsali, which is nice, but the dog miraculous in general would be pretty useless in this kind of scenario as HUNTR/X girls don't necessarily have anything worth stealing (other than the fans' hearts)
So to make Mystery actually dangerous, I have given him the bee miraculous, as he has enough hair to put the hair comb in it. And imagine if he used Venom to then suck the soul of the immobilised Hunter. Rest in Peace.
Baby: We all agreed that Baby is a menace and the worst of them all, and Gwi-Ma's favorite in general, so of course I gave him the most dangerous miraculous there is, and that would be black cat miraculous. If you didn't think we were fucked four people ago, now you have this without a shadow of doubt. I can also see him vibe with Plagg, even if Plagg wouldn't exactly approve of how his powers are used. So yeah, don't trust me with this baby, I will give him a knife or a gun lol, or a world-ending artifact
The only miraculous I didn't use even in considerations, were: the monkey, the goat, and the pig. The monkey, in general, doesn't add much other than inconvenience and funny hijinks to this whole ordeal. The goat is a weaker ladybug (so I guess it could go to Celine again). The pig could be used in a similar fashion as the eagle one, with how Jinu was able to not hear Gwi-Ma's voice thanks to Rumi giving him hope with their duet for free, but unlike the eagle miraculous, the effects of the pig wouldn't be permanent, as after Rumi left, Gwi-Ma immediately regained control over Jinu and crushed his spirit. So, pig wouldn't do much in the long run for either side, as Saja Boys can hypnotise people on their own, too.
A sort of follow-up to my The Pressure on a Hero prompt. This one to go with how heroes work under corporations in To Be Hero X
What if Gabriel didn't only have the Butterfly and Peacock, but the entire Miracle, except the Ladybug and Black Cat? And what if instead of making his son the face of the company, he made young heroes under his control?
Basically, Gabriel uses the Miracle Box as a major factor in his company's expansion by creating heroes to represent the brand. He might have even used the Butterfly in secret to create villains for them to defeat (without them knowing he did it). And, once the heroes have outlived their usefulness by snooping or get too big for their britches, he gets rid of them and replaces them.
However, he has to change his goals when Emilie gets sick. He now must find the Ladybug and Black Cat (and possibly the Rabbit) to help his wife. So, he gives this as a mission for his heroes.
Gabriel might have even given some of the Miraculous to members of the Secret Organization, like giving the Dragon to Tomoe, who could have given it to Kagami.
Meanwhile, Master Fu recognizes what Gabriel has been doing and might be seen as a villain while using a Miraculous persona to get them back from Gabriel's control. But, he needs help and decides to risk passing out the Ladybug, Black Cat, and any Miraculous he might have.
You could do a few interesting things with this. For example, Adrien might want to bring his father's operation crashing down and try to help the 'villains' if he doesn't get a Miraculous. Gabriel might have even given him a 'bodyguard' in the form of a hero his age in the same class who doubles as a spy.
